Daigo used two moves with Hakan the whole time and did rather poorly. Considering he is Daigo and was playing a couple of randoms in LA and then got raped by Jwong while attempting to use Hakan. That character is so pathetic. lol
Store super, store U2.
Legit 50% mixup on safe knee s.lk.
Except on Abel/Ibuki.
I said I was oversimplifying. I know its not safe, but your opponent only really has to make one mistake. One bad Fireball, one whiffed AA, In some cases one bad poke, and then as long as you respond quickly T-Hawk is in their face and ready to forcibly remove their teeth.
His jump is also floatier and less horizontal. Like, he spends more time in the air and doesn’t go as far doing it.
This came up yesterday. I saw my cornered Boxer opponent jump back, and then I did jump mk with a timing that in 4 would have caught him just as he landed and before he could do anything about my jump. Instead, I got there too late and he hit me with a free headbutt.

I am laughing at the people saying that they switch to T-Hawk or Hakan. Zangief is mutch better than both of those two.

Just curious, MikeTyson what is your reasoning behind this.
I think zangief’s empty jump might be a bit faster than on sf4 either that or it seems faster because he is moving faster on the ground with quick dash, possible to use focus level 2 into dash, quicker crouch medium kick, and quicker recovery sweep and then since he is more overwhelming on the ground with his improved footsies then it is harder to react to when you do empty jump in for that lp spd. What is different for sure is that zangief’s jump medium kick and jump down+lk on SF4 had a sort of dive kick effect, where doing one of those attacks during the downward arc of your jump causes gief to fall like a rock. That divekick property is gone from the jump MK in ssf4, Zangief keeps the same jump arc as if he is empty jumping so now he is easier to anti air if you decide to do a jumpin because you both keep the same high jump arc as if you empty jumped but in addition you get those recovery frames for doing an attack in the air.
I have found his jump in SSF4 to be strictly a footsie option to be added to your ground game with the options of either sticking out jump fierce punch or medium kick with their great range, or bait the anti air by empty jumping. Of course any good zangief from SF4 already used those options, but lost is the option of random jump medium kick that is very hard to deal with for many of the characters in SF4 that gives zangief a free way to get in on them and start ruining their shit. I can’t confirm if the empty jump is faster than in SF4 but it for sure is a better option because in SSF4 zangief is stronger outside of spd range than in SF4 so the opponent will be more preoccupied with dealing with Gief at their doorstep to be ready to react to anti air.
Any confirmation on a weaker headbutt or is it the same (500-600 stun)?
its unchanged
Gandalfrockman is right. 'Gief pays for every inch with blood while T. Hawk flies in and sweep Lois Lane away. Oversimplifying might be right as well, but T.Hawk’s speed is like a blessing for those who almost always play against shotos. Condor Dive may be unsafe but fuck if it isn’t sweet on run and guns. Still those are just immediate impressions. I just really enjoy hurling people around. I can’t wait to start playing this online… TONIGHT!!!
Still Love 'Gief, though. I’m just saying T. Hawk is a nice change of pace. The condor Dive is going to catch some fools jumping back better than Gief doing a J.Mk. I also found myself playing with SSF4 Zangief more like I used to with HDR Zangief. I really don’t want to point out why I had to use him differently in SF4 from HDR.
U2 is DIFFERENT. But i think I might start picking that one because U1 in SF4 was most of the time a successful action on opponents I caught slippin’. Compared to the future in which I’ll catch opponents jumping.
And as for Tier… I cannot agree OFF OF 1ST Impressions that Zangief is Top of the Grapplers. Yes it is early but I was just thinking about tonight’s Tournament and I decided that T.Hawk has this place. There is something he can do that’s going to catch a LOT of people sleeping. I’ll point it out once I come back to Mother Russia.
Would it have something to do with his amazing j.lp xx Condor Dive?
Nah, Ultra 2 Baits.
Had an enlightening match with a Zangief today; I wouldn’t say he was a nerf ball, but the outcome of the match was more reflective of the actual match, if that makes sense.
THANK GOD
I hated Gief’s empty jump hitbox so, so much. didn’t match the graphics in the slightest
^Oh boy, that sucks. Just wondering - how much was the damage of Ex Green Hand reduced approximately?
My e-mail to capcom(I was bored)
I hope I didnt spell wrong, I did check it
man i hate the lariat priority i have old habits from sf4 were i lariat every single time someone jumps at me and now most of the time some moves are beating it clean
IT still beats nearly everything clean if:
-You do ppp lariat
-You do it from crouching
-You time it right. It has invincibility frames during the startup.
thx…now i hope they do something about it
I just think that capcom have nerfed gief because many people did’nt know how to play against him. Iwas surprised how i destroyed even blanka or sagat that didn’t know the matchup and of course i was surprised how some weak characer as vega, fuerte, or gen was destroing me because i didn’t know the matchup.
So capcom just nerfed gief for this reason. I just think that nerfing lariat was enough reducing life is just a little errore and the bigger errore are the 4 frame crouch lk that make really hard now to link correctly.
nerfing the lp spd is also correct (170dm are still good enough) and the new jump arc is sometimes even useful to confuse opponent.
Am I the only one who think that Zangiefs new hitbox is bigger nerf that his jump and c.lk nerf?
He cant short empyjump any AA normal anymore, and people can catch hes empty jump with a AA normal from very far away which wasnt possible in SF4.
