Ghost of Tsushima - version 1.1 update (Legends, New Game+); 10/16/20

Yeah I don’t consider Lethal it self the hardest as it’s a evenly set between you and every enemy and NPC. One good direct hit can kill, but that applies to everyone.

But I haven’t played the lethal setting myself yet. I am more just taking my time and enjoying the game.
I have no intention of even advancing the main quest plot at the moment.

So I’ve played a few hours today and games fun. The world is nice and realized, really pretty, the story and acting are pretty conpelling, soubd is great.

Maybe it’s cuz I’m still at the beginning but honestly the combat kind of fucking sucks. It’s sorta boring and basic, don’t have a lot of options in combat, the camera kinda stinks and the unblockable attacks are awful. They are hard to see and come really fast. In fact parrying is pretty tough because the combat has that Western flair where physical attacks have a ton of wind up then go through their actual attack animation incredibly fast. Getting perfect parties feels kinda like luck. And so far all the fights are huge with you vastly out numbered. It’s actually kind of annoying.

I’ll stick with it cuz it could be those early game blues. I see tons of skills to unlock. I hope they help cuz so far I am not digging the combat very much honestly.

I’m taking a break for now.

Coming from Sekiro, the combat will not be nearly as good. I had some of the same feelings at first and that’s just something I had to get over. But after unlocking some more stances, skills, and gear, it opens up a bunch. The game seems to do a really good job of making you feel like you’re transforming into the Ghost as you go along. You’ll start to feel like a fucking bad ass.

Unfortunately the camera never gets better. It just sucks in battle especially in close quarters. Someone mentioned that you can change the camera mode in options to help with it a bit but I haven’t messed with that and just deal with it.

And yeah as you level up combat changes a bit and you definitely feel more badass as you get further along. Those groups you feel outnumbered against early on changes as you progress.

I just got the Mongol general armor and the flame sword tonight. I didn’t get much time to actually play around with the sword but it’s pretty badass. Mongol general armor is pretty badass.

Before I got it I figured that you needed to actually activate it to not freeze, but that appears to not be the case? It seemed like going down from where you get it I was not freezing at all but the weather also had cleared up so I wasn’t sure if that had to do with it too.

The foxes stick around after you pray at the shrines. Just go to them and you’ll be able to pet them.

Yeah, I was going to wait a bit on getting the game until I learned you can pet foxes. After that there was no waiting.

The foxes don’t always stick around so I’m not sure if there is something that triggers them staying or not.

I’ve been running with a sick Kensei shinobi build. I’m using the charm that gives black powder bombs more power and spreads flames, the charm that gives two extra Kunai, two charms that increase ghost weapon power, and enduring infliction which makes status effects do 50 percent more damage. That shit makes flame arrows, explosive arrows, flame sword, hallucination darts, and sticky bombs lethal as fuck.

Bruh, I’m fucking unstoppable. And I look dope.

I’m still in area 1…

My bad, man. I’m conscious about not spoiling plot points and big game stuff like that, but if you think posting builds like that is spoiler territory, too, then I’ll be more careful with tags moving forward.

Oh that’s not what I meant Chad. No worries!!!

I’m almost done with Act 3 I think. I’m debating on doing a Lethal run after I beat it. Anyone else try it yet?

Yea I tried it. It’s a mixed bag of shit being way too easy or way too hard. You can tell the AI isn’t built around everything being basically 1 hit

Welp, I beat the game. I went into Act 3 almost fully upgraded so it didn’t take long to max everything out and become completely OP, which is what I focused on throughout the game instead of story progression. I did every single side quest and searched every location before doing the story missions. That may have been a mistake because I really felt the lack of progression when clearing out most of the camps in the third area. And it also leaves absolutely nothing to do in the end game.

I really enjoyed this one, ultimately. I just wish the pacing was a little better at the end. And it could benefit from a New game+ mode and/or challenges. Or maybe reset all the villages and camps with harder Mongols to keep you busy for longer after the story.

I’ll probably do a Lethal run later, but for now I’m going to move on to FFVII Remake.
