no thread for testament here yet… i’ll open one. let’s talk about him.
first question that i never figured out…
when you hit with the key super, you get 3 counters things above your tension bar… what do those do? do you use them? how to use them?
since i don’t know what it does yet… generally i use his other super instead… it has great range (covers full screen almost), though not great damage… at least it has poison so the total damage is still okay.
and the bnb combo i use…
close st. S, S, HS -> gravedigger (qcb+P)
most damaging combo i know
your opponent near wall or at wall
6p,hs,632146 hs(the super where posion your player),hs,63214p,your oppoent bounces off the wall,2p,s,jump,k,s,double jump,hs,d,63214p
there is a lot fo variation for this combo, but this is the most damaging.
I personally won’t use this because people will tech hit after you combo them.
I will do something else to make them not tech it after i finish the combo so i can continue my pressure
They make your trees bigger, they don’t disappear when you get hit, but they disappear after a certain amount of time, they poison the opponent if they hit, and they can’t tech after a giant tree hits them.
That’s not true, they can tech after a small tree. The tech point is late, but I’ve seen the computer tech out of it. It has to be counter hit for them to not be able to tech.
random testament things i know use the red net thing. use the skull when u get the chance. and he is very owerful in the corner.
so basically keep the pressure on.
I have yet to find a way to fight/punish random sol of the wall kick special with testament, it is too fast to time anything to stop it clean like standing k. testament’s counter doesn’t work because sol can block in time, it seems as if testament dies to this one stupid move done at random because of his lack of an invincible 6p(toward+p). The kick passes through the webs of course. Anyone have a solution?
ya i was having that problem too, just (if you have tension)do the poison super(trade hits),or 6hs can snuff it if timed rite
heres an example on how ive seen good testenebts play,
if you have more than half screen distance on opponent start throwing skulls and nets and trees to fill up space and to get in for pressure,if you are in close c.K to 6p is deadly mixup toy around with high low till you scoe a hit, then do his basic combo into grave digga, when opponent is grounded dash up and throw a net on him and continue pressure,if you have tension and dont mixup on waking opponent use frc barney to bounce them back for free mixup(beware of chars that can go through it)
I have noticed that a lot of Tese players save their tension for FRC Barneys. I use it one extended Grave Digger combos. S, HS, Grave Digger, RC, D, Grave Digger, wall bounce,K, S, jump, K, S, DJ, S, D, Grave Digger. The RC’d Grave Digger often allows me to get them to the corner, allowing for damaging corner combos.
What I want explained from anyone who knows, is how one should set up and follow a FRC’d Barney.
After FRC barney, most opponents I played against always try to block low so I do 6P>combo. After a while they will learn to block high and that’s the time when I do a low attack but avoid doing 2P or 2K as these attacks prorate combo damage by more than 30%.
It’s also a good idea to end a combo with sweep (2D). After the sweep, do 236P, dash in and start the high low mix-up game. When you are facing characters with invincible wake-up move like Sol, do 41236S>214HS instead.
Test’s tension is for 2 things IMO: FRC barney(either combo or pressure) and RCing various things so that you can get a gravedigger loop going.
I’m the only Test player I know or have seen play for real, but from the various vids I have seen(mostly japanese), most of them don’t spend a lot of time messing around with the trees or webs, they just rush down a lot. I should probably clarify. Every so often they will lay a tree, but they only use the web as okizeme, almost always after a throw, since that sets up the 6P/2K mixup perfectly. Personally I do use the webs/trees a lot, but I think it’s something I’ll have to lose as I face more and stiffer competition. Too many chars, maybe all, have ways to disable/ignore the traps.
However, if pure rushdown is the best way to play Test, I’m not sure he’s still worthwhile, simply because there are other chars who do it much better.
Ben-Ra has it, basically. Testament at high-level is pretty much strictly rushdown, and a fairly simplistic rushdown at that. That’s part of why he’s generally not ranked high. He’s effective, but other characters do similar things that he can, only much better.
I just resently watched a Japanese vid of testament and for some reason they can OTG the Phantom Skull on the other player after the dust Sweep and I have seen it done after his throw…Has anyone else seen this? AFter they knock the other char down they do the skull and it comes out faster then usual OTG’ing them…Has anyone found out how to do this? This would make this game that much better!@! SOMEONE help me!
