GGXX#R Zappa

I’m pretty good with faus and Potemkin, but I want to learn a new character. Since Zappa is the coolest character design of all freaking time, I want to try to learn how to play the bastard. Sadly, almost no one play as Zappa, so its been rather hard trying to gather information on him.

Any help would be appreciated.

I play with Zappa he mostly my main now. Even so i don’t consider myself “A Zappa Master” but I could give u some pointers. I be back to post some stuff since I busy doing stuff for collegue.

Ok here is the Zappa guide (Damn this going to be a large post)

First of all if u want to be a good Zappa player u must know how to BLOCK!!! and to know ur range. At the sametime when to sumon the ghost. So to say it in few words u can’t be a turtle with Zappa but at the sametime u can’t be a scruby Sol player.

Beginer combos wiithout a ghost

c.Dust, :qcf: P (2 hits plus a ghost)
c.K, :r: P, cr. D and :qcf: P (4 hits plus ghost)
j.K, while u still in the air P and has soon u land on the ground :qcf: P(3 hits and ghost)

Ouga Ouga ouga ghost
(The fireball ones)

s.K,s. Slash 3x, cr. Slash, :qcf: s(5 hits plus orb)
In corner cr.HS, s. Slash 2x, j.HS, j.Slash and :qcf: Slash or HS depending where ur oponent is at the moment(6 hits and orb) This combo can be followed preaty much with anything that propel ur enemy to the air so it preaty open combo after s. Slash 2x.

Dogy
(NOTE:Remeber that ur DUST buton is to control now the damn dog. The reason why I say this because sometimes u migth forget about it and try to do a combo with D buton and thus u get scred because ur enemy can bitch slap u)

s.K,HS 2x and Dust (4 hits)
cr.HS, :u: Dust, j.K, Slash 3x and anything that can hit a downed oponent( 7 hits pus orb) The cr.Hs can be changed for a s. K.
j.HS, cr.K + :d: Dust, cr.P and cr.HS( This combo can be blocked until :d: Dust since that moves is unblockable)

Sword

s.K, s.Slash x2 and s.HS x2 (5 hit but no orb)
s.P, s. Slash x2 and s.HS x2(5 hits but no orb :()
s.K, s. Slash x2 and :qcf: S (4 hits and one orb) On this combo u can beging also with cr.K
j.K, stil while in the air Slash, when u land Slash x2 and :qcf: S (5 hits and one orb)

I would suggest going to www.gamecombos.com and checking the Zappa section, there’s a ton of good stuff there if you’re looking to learn the character, but be warned that he is a TOUGH one to be good with because you’re constantly switching styles without knowing it.

Aye u can find more characters stargs on that site. They also have in the case of Zappa 2 diferren thread one discusin Zappa with all his ghost the other one without any.

BTW I didn’t know u posted around here also Dangief.

Question about something I can never ever get to work. In videos, while zappa has the dog, zappa will do :s:, :d::hs:, then knock them down and keep pressure up. Is there some trick to comboing into the :d::hs: or something?

Just to make certian does the dog attack?
Because if so then it would be something like this
:s:, DUST + :d: :hs: then dash or whatever u want.

Tuna, they have to be crouching for the close s.S -> c.HS to combo. Gamecombos sucks.

Yeah, comboing into 2HS (outside of on crouching) just requires you to use the Dog’s D attack inbetween. You can use it to combo into, or more importantly out of is 5HS as well, or at least make it safer. The internet sucks.

When i go to gamecombos and i go to the new GGXX#R section, and i click on a character it says

Yeah I seen those vids good stuff. But Zappa vids is the best one.

With the sword, I noticed 236S sets up a good high/low mix. After the move ends, Zappa can jump back with S for a very fast high attack, or do a 2S instead for a low attack. Most opponents block after the 236S, in fear of the follow-up HS. Though, Zappa does seem vulnerable after the 236S, I think if you expect an opponents attack, you can stuff it with the HS follow-up. I think it’s best if the opponent uses FD a lot. Other than that, I can’t think of a use for that move.

63214HS with the sword seems way more useful.

With the triplets, people tend to abuse jumping HS cross-ups a lot. They seem effective against people not use to fighting Zappa.

FRC 236S and 236HS also seem very useful with the triplets.

Roah is insanely brutal.

With no summons, RC’ing the 236P into another 236P is a great way to build orbs for Roah. Well worth it, since Roah is so good.

Wiggling (walking) back in forth on the opposite side of the screen is a great way to build meter. Zappa seems to gain a lot just for walking. I see a lot of people do this when they have the triplets or the dog.

Zappa’s air throw seems to have a really good hitbox. Learning to option-select air throw (using FD) seems like it’s a must.

Just to add to this: On crouching opponents, you can also combo into the 2HS from far S, 6P, 2S, and of course close S.

The j.HS works great even if they are used to Zappa because of the obscene blockstun and the fact that you can aircombo/airthrow if it hits. This allows you to safely set up their equally scarry high/low/throw game because it holds them there so long, the long hitframes make it very difficult to reversal out of without at least trading as well. Add to this the crazy guard meter you can build (especially in the corner) and you can do a LOT of damage and keep them stuck blocking for quite a while with the ghosts, making them my favorite of the non Raoh summons.

I also suggest reading the gamecombos database so that you can familarize yourself with the weird properties of his normal moves, as knowing what they do is very important if you want to win.

Additional note: On conterhit 6P and 5K can also combo into 2HS>5S>aircombo or Centipede RC combo
