Yeah GGs man. You seem to overall have more experience with that mirror match. I saw some tricks that I didn’t know about, such as the walldive in corner on my wake-up where if I try to backflip you’ll still get me with cr.mp xx EX-FBA. Really solid poking game aswell. Whenever I play against other Vega’s I tend to be really aggressive since I know the flaws of his wake-up game, but you were suckering me into alot of CH’s so I had to play more cautiously.
I think its safe to say that kara-throw was my saving grace lol. Anyway, alexlkd and Joz are probably the best Vega’s I’ve played. Hit them up for some schoolin’.
Its funny cause I first tried that out and used on it Jozhear, and I thought to myself yeay I came up with something new, and then a few months later a find a match of japanese players in mirrors doing it. I believe me and Jozhear like to come up with new stuff all the time when we can. I agree that his vega is impressive. He shows me new things all the time.
When Super comes out I may start trying out working with his throws once again. I have thought up of a nice strategy that incorporates throws, except it will be significantly more effective in Super I think considering that FA will be getting faster. It would be significantly better if Vega’s dash speed was faster (by at the VERY least 2 frames), but I can only use what I got.
ok so um i just got back on today since sunday & i was alil bit rusty & i still gave sum vega cat the BUSINESS…he asked me out of all the vega friends i got on my list that if im the best & i honestly said no im not but i can say im TOP 5 Ezzzz…whoeva thinks im wrong then speak yur MIND cuz i aint holdin back NADA =D !
oh & for those who dont kno what NADA means here u goo------> NOTHING<--------
hes kinda decent but needs alil bit of learnin the mirro match so whoeva wantsz to give him sum pointers go ahead
Yeah Vega’s forward dash speed is somewhat lame. Needs to be slightly faster. Kara-throw is essential for all Vega players. Combined with pokes it can destroy cornered opponents.
I personally hate Vega mirror matches. It just feels so restricted and you’re forced into a poking match, which is kinda lame. I love using walldive in matches to bait people and score an izuna, but against Vega, you walldive, you get EX-FBA’d.
I love mirror matches! I get to frustrate the opponent and make them feel the pain I feel for having no reversal/wakeup game and feeling the pain from all those glitches! Oh wait…
I actually like Vega mirrors…speaking of which I had some great sets against JeenyusSF4, even though it was a while ago. His Vega is great, very relentless with some tricky Kara throw setups. He motivated me to look for more openings to incorporate it into my routine as much as possible.
Yeah ST whiffs or gets stuffed by the wierdest things… I especially have to get used to Akuma’s double standing hk stuffing it… i sometimes do it on reaction to that move… thinking it should hit his upward leg or his gonads… but it always seems to beat me… in the strangest of angles.
GG alex, your offense is super solid. and that use of FA got me thinking about possible mix up potential, when rushing down. But yeah ST is godlike once you get over the invul frames. You just have to use the right one for the right situation. Its not a GTFO move, but it works more like a reset button. When characters start mashing strings on you and move away from lp or lk that when you can throw one out. It either trade or nothing comes out, but if it does it resets the situation and gives you the space you need. this works because its a reversal with 4 frame start up which is pretty fast. Plus it gives you ample time to escape the corner. I dont know if you have noticed as well but ST does not get hit by low moves unless its a meaty attack or a 3 frame low if done at the same time. Its uses are there you just have to think outside the box.
GGs pedo. Yea the FA mixups can be very powerful. If an attack has 9 frames of recovery and you hit me on lvl 2 I can counter your poke with a crumple, that includes your option select tech. Unfortunately you can’t counter hit a grab which means I have to do lvl 2 in order to crumple a grab attempt though. at certain distances you can FA in front and still reach a backdash attempt with a crumple. If you start mixing it with grabs it can be very powerful.
Right now I am waiting for super to see how they made the FA better since they claim that they have. Right now I can counter mostly every move from all characters using some strategy with FA, but in Super hopefully it will be more effective. The most difficult by far is to punish a jump though (besides getting the crumple). To punish a jump you have to a charge and get the dash ultra down. In Super since Vega goes higher it should be more effective, but pulling off a dash ultra from this situation is really hard. Fortunately you can hit someone in the starting frames of their jump so people attempt to jump less often.
One tip though is that if you know a person is using FA and they won’t hit you, if you know that they will either back dash or forward dash, then you can always punish them with an Ex FBA always, on reaction.
When Super comes out I will have to test alot of things with ST for sure. Though, the top of my list of things to test include BHC, SC, FA, ST, Izuna, claw dive, POM.
I’d like to fight more Vega’s, Vega mirrors are pure footsies coz all his specials are practically useless on Vega so its really fun and you learn alot of stuff from them. Hit me up on PSN if you wanna get some matches in : BeyondTheFlames.
@pedoviejo- the only reason I didn’t comment was cause I didn’t want what happened last time I commented about your playstyle. I think that both your offense and defense is equally good in terms of hitting and not getting hit. However your followups on wakeup could use some work, like back throw to jump MP, CH into ex FBA into corner for izuna.
Also as foutzkazuya and Jozhear showed me, Vega’s throw game can be pretty intense. I suggest learning how to effectively implement his throws/kara throws. I am not that great at them yet, but I will be. Once I start mixing that with my FA I predict that it can be quite powerful, as I showed you towards the end of our matches to some extent. Even if you think that you are good at them, then get even better at them. If you play foutzkazuya or Jozhear, then you will know what I mean if they decide to really use it. I need to be able to do it like they do.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, I do remember beating you air to air and AA often so probably take a look at your air game and AA game. Try to use different AA moves, like air throw, jump HK, cr HP, st HK, instead of just ST. I baited that move alot so I could stuff it.
As for follow up on pressure. Really what can Vega do? this is something I believe Vega cannot do until you are in the corner. Anywhere else and Vega follow pressure are pure shenanigans, and shenanigans don’t work on solid players. Back throw into j.mp seems more like a novel thing. As for CH - EX FBA in the corner, that is something that works on specific characters. Let me put it like this. Say i got you in the corner and I do CH - EX FBA. And follow up with a vortex, you can get out of it after 1 attempt or maybe 3 right? But what if I dont do it? It then becomes heavily in my favor because to get out of the corner against Vega you have to risk eating a lot of shit, I’ll explain more later. Once you are in the corner you cant play footsies because you have no room to maneuver. you simply lose a lot of options, something the Vortex cant do. But the Vortex is character specific, meter specific, and player specific. To get out of the corner you have to
A)catch me of guard
B)Reset the situation through a grab and try to EX FBA out of the corner as soon as the grab tech animation ends.
C)risk a wall jump
D)hope i fuck up in my pressure
I know it sounds a lot like theory fighter.
For the throw you are right I should work on throwing more. Its something I really dont do enough. Going for a nearly risk free 120 damage is something like me should not take for granted, so ill work on that a bit more.
As for the AA game, I do need to refine it. but i did ST a lot because you where jumping and grabing a lot to stuff my AA’s attempts. But that just shows that i was not adapting my AA game enough utilize all of Vega’s AA’s.
What I think you need to work on and i cant stress enough is your footsies. They are good, but they can be better. not saying mine are better or anything, but i think you should work on em a bit more.
Your focus on Vega right now are working on FA and grabs? Im working on my pressure, defense, space control, and footsies constantly because IMO to succed with Vega you need to be beyond solid in those 4 things, because those are to only things Vega has that are solid viable tools and not shenanigans. FA mix ups, kara-throws are good, but nothing beats solid space management. Once you started engaging me in footsies I noticed that your space was not controlled as effective as it could have been. Maybe it was the FA, I dont know. Sometimes I felt like I got in a bit to easy. One thing you should work on is normals. your use of CH is outstanding and you land it a lot because you definitely know how to use it, but your use of st.mk, and cr.mk was not up to par. As for your conrer game its good, but it could be better. If you ever landed a CH you would always go for EX FBA and start the vortex, that shit works but going for it like you did all the time allowed me to escape the corner and put you against the wall. Try mixing in the vortex and then position your opponent against the wall and make him eat more shit as he tries to get out. Lastly I dont know if its your defense or you just zoning out because I was literally dead or whatever, but sometimes I would make some ridiculous comebacks. This is something I need to work on as well staying focused. I know it may be just a silly online match but to win one must always be focused at all times.
your comments would be appreciated this time around because know I know this wont spiral out of control.
BTW yes I know about Joz and fouts insane throw pressure. Joz even wrote something about how throw are essential to Vega because they allow him to reset the situation a long time ago. But what makes their throw pressure insane IMO is because it allows them to condition you to OS to tech their throw. this in turn allows them to land CH easier, use n.j easier with out much fear of repercussion, reset the situation, or start some pressure. That is the only reason I ever throw. If I see that my opponent likes to defend a lot. Throwing breaks people’s defense a lot more than people believe because its Vega’s best conditioning tool.
@Pedoviejo- For sure. Im still testing the FA strats, as well as POM, CH more than anything. Once I finish with that, I am going to start practicing with my throws/karas. Then ill start working more on my footsies. Once I combine my FA effectively with throws/ normal attacks I can start mounting a stronger offense ideal to what I think Vega’s offense should be like. He should be dancing around the opponent and able to be a threat from close and far. In the corner when you limit an opponents options Vega can be devastating, because of how he can kill you from so far away.
The vortex is extremely powerful against Vega in the corner.
If I do FA -> CH - > EX FBA its like 251 dmg I believe which is 1/4 of your life. If I do Izuna and bait the kkk flip into the cr MP - Ex FBA then I do another 250 dmg which is another 1/4 of your life. If I izuna you its 150 dmg which is approximately 1/6 of you life. both options leave you back in the vortex though. The other thing is that once Vega’s mask flies off then I do 25% extra dmg for the early kill.
Just recently I got a perfect against another Vega player by doing this: FA -> cl fierce -> mp -> ex FBA -> Izuna. Then in the corner I did Izuna. Then I did it again and after his KKK flip I did cr MP into ex FBA -> izuna. His mask was off and he got dizzied. Then FA -> CH -> Ex FBA -> Izuna RIGHT BACK into the corner where I could have done it again but he died.
I generally prefer Izuna vortex over corner pressure when I have some risk but high reward, although once I get my footsies where I want it to be I see alot of things I am going to enjoy about corner pressure. But then again im waiting for Super cause I know that his normals are going to be changed. I am praying for cr HP to be fixed more than any of his normals.
Oh yeah about that. I get mad when my claw and mask comes off. So I just do stupid stuff till I get it back which is a bad habit that gets me killed sometimes. Its so stupid that it comes off. Makes no sense. And When I do SHC instead of cr mp it really annoys me too. Its me getting annoyed and not caring about the match anymore. I don’t care if I am going to win when I have my claw and mask off. And sometimes (rarely, but still) I start hovering over your claw and mask thinking its mine… lol. I would be thinking why can’t I pick it up! Thats how frustrated I would get.
@th3 jok3er J- yea GGS. I feel your pain about control malfunction and lag.
