Hi guys, i was in two SFIV tournaments in Dublin this weekend. I placed 3rd in the first one and 9th in the second(and biggest Irish tourney to date). After losing my first two group games to assorted Sagat/Ryus, I caused perhaps the shock of the tournament by eliminating the number one ranked Irish player ‘Bush’ in the group stages. He picked Blanka and then counterpicks with Rufus in the second fight…
I get lucky in the first round when his hand momentarily slipped off the controller and manage to bust out the Super-cancel to win the round!
I eventually got beaten by an excellent Zangief player in the quarter finals…

Good stuff~ Though if I were the Rufus player, I would’ve buffered an ultra every time I saw you with a charge opportunity. You do those rolls just often enough to be a little predictable, so some better players might punish you for it with a well-times ultra.

I think you get a little ‘cr. mp-happy’ and maybe toss it out when there are better things you should be doing. In this video I noticed you were pressuring Rufus with I believe cr.jab and cr.strong and he jumped. Instead of grabbing the fat bastard and chucking him back down, you kept hitting cr.strong twice as he sailed down to you. Needed more kara grabbing, too, to optimize the pressure you were able to put on Blanka and Rufus. Speaking of which, you slid around a lot in that Blanka matchup. Suprised he didn’t punish you worse than he did.
Sorry if I’m being too critical, and it may be a bit out of my place to randomly critique people in here when I myself barely post much myself (usually I’ve got nothing to say, I guess). Good shit though, always great to see Vega repped and you obviously did very well. Just maybe a touch random at times. I’m of course used to how I play so what do I know anyways? Great job, again!
Thanks for the advice Rizhall and Bry. I was dead nervous by that stage and reverted to poke spamming. My next fight against a Ken player was uploaded and in that fight I completely dominate and begin showing off(focus into air grab etc.), But I admit it wasn’t really my A-Game in the Blanka/Rufus fight…

That’s the only adjective I allow myself to use when playing Vega. In fact, I sent some really good Ryu a message “I feel so sexy” after I beat him pretty well in the 4th match against him. He won the first 3, sure, sure, but I pulled out my shenanigans handbook and layed a BHC on him for the win in the fourth game. J.fierce - st.fierce(first hit)xxPPP backflip into BHC on the baited jump in.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, the other day I was playing I noticed something strange about jumping as an AA option. If you just jump and not attack then your hitbox appears to be significantly smaller as opposed to much extended when you do attack which causes it to get stuffed. I think this could be a useful tactic to use against those who like to jump in alot, or those who you know will jump in. I used the neutral jump and it looked like I would be hit by the attack, but I didnt and as I landed I could use the air RH into a full combo to counter the opponents jump attack, since they have a little lag at the end of a jump attack. Ken B used the same concept alot in his video against Rufus, except he would land and do cr MP while the opponent was in the air. Just thought I would share my thoughts on the matter.

Qbanace - Truly excellent games. One or two things about the match up, just in case you didn’t know. If I miss with my FBA, it’s a free punish with an FBA of your own if you have meter. Also, avoiding a random wall dive (which is kinda to do dumb in the mirror match in the first place) with KKK is safer than using the slide, and allows you an easier chance of punishing it. Other than that, your Vega itself is very good. Even in the Bison match up, which is horrid, you did your thing. Lookin forward to teaming up come the 27th.

Yes they were! For some reason whenever I pick Balrog, the game crashes and everyone loses connection. Also, I love T. Hawk! Gonna pick him up a bit in Super!

GG To Cuban_Ace. You play a really solid Vega. Your execution is really up there too, and very consistent. A few things, though: You should NEVER wall dive at another Vega unless it’s an ex barcelona attack hit confirm. If you screw up, the other Vega gets a free ex wall dive of his own. Also, I noticed a pattern that you have. You like to sweep almost every time you whiff a cosmic heel. I started catching on to that!
