So yeah, we’re having a debate on this subjectf and I was wondering…what’s the best, especially for int’l matches (sorta a rethorical question, I already know the answer but I need feedback from the community)?
Why do people keep saying that GGPO’s netcode is much better than the competition counterparts? Is Kaillera seriously that bad compared to the most recent netplay middlewares?
yes it is: I run a small community which revolves around the emulated Amiga version of a game called “Sensible World of Soccer 96/97” (a pretty old football game that used to be popular in Europe back in the 16-bit era), playable online through Kaillera and we’re looking for a reliable alternative because as it is the game is afflicted by way too many bugs, desynchs every other time and the lag/input delay is occasionally unbearable while playing over long distances).
However people over at our website are looking for more opinions since they know basically nothing about GGPO and 2DF and since people on SRK apparently use them on daily basis to play their favourite beat’em up I thought I could’ve asked here for a comparison and a few additional info. Sue me.
GGPO and 2DF use nFBA, which doesn’t support Amiga games as far as I know, so they couldn’t be added unless someone added an Amiga driver to the emulator.
If when you say ‘Kaillera’ you mean server-based Kaillera, then you should give p2p a shot: http://kaillera.movsq.net/. It should work with anything that supports normal Kaillera, just replace the kaillera.dll.
Well if you’re comparing the fighting game “community” the majority of them use both 2DF and GGPO, but GGPO gets really bad spammers and annoying people, 2DF there isn’t much chat lol.
For some reason whenever I play on a wired connection on 2DF, I always get the buzzing frozen game thing. I like how 2DF has a huge amount of game support though.
Most of the time when kaillera is mentioned , its mainly thought of the server support and not the P2P recent version . Even though I had played the P2P version , I think there were still little delays in it and plus getting someone to play takes more time than finding someone in GGPO/2DF .
the “kaillera” p2p client has nothing to do with kaillera. 0746 named it so because his first version supported regular kaillera play too. the peer to peer code had nothing to do with that.
lol, I use 2DF everyday and can play people in Bulgaria fine. It comes down to each persons connection as well. But my point is that theres never lag input on 2DF unless your playing someone with a shitty connection cause mine is superb.
GGPO may have better players but online isnt to be taken seriously anyways. 2DF has a lot of scrubs especially of the shoto variety but there are some good people on there. Furthermore I play 3rd Strike not Lag Strike so 2DF for the win.
