I’m down if you can somehow split this up regionally so people don’t deal with bullshit ping.
Well, Monday was the test run for the Danisen battles and to be honest, things were hectic at the start. 32 people entered the Dan Battle and that’s not including the last few people that came on board. The thing about Danisen is it’s ran in single line format, so a lot of players had to wait 10 games to play a game because there were only 2 matches at a time. I could honestly only handle 2 matches at a time with all the random chat being spammed on the screen, keeping track of ranks and games being played, figuring out who won, having people complain about when they were up, people asking how and when they could join, people thinking it was a regular tournament style? (nobody reads apparently). Help was graciously offered by a few and I appreciate it, GREEK took over a group of players (I had 2 single lines of players) and things eventually got easier.
So a few things I learned that should be implemented.
1.) GGPO chat is filled with spam and annoying trolls. From now on we will be using IRC where you will join the IRC channel #DanBattle on Gamesurge. In the channel I can at least have some control on what is being done and make sure everybody knows whats going on without the chat being flooded with questions and assholes. If you cant handle a simple request to log on IRC every battle then you really don’t deserve to play in it. I can mute the channel and only allow the players who are playing access to talk so trolls and spammers wont work on IRC.

Being on IRC also helps me because I can actually see who showed up to the Dan Battle, the list I made on monday, ALOT of people didn’t show up till later and I had to re-add them because I took them off when I called them out and weren’t present. So the list on Thursday will be just of the people I see logged into IRC, if you aren’t on IRC, I will not allow you to play.
2.) Lets face it, 140 ping Third Strike isn’t Third Strike at all. So, starting Thursday I’m going to ask for everybody’s coast so I can mark them and eventually make a list of coast vs coasts. But! For now, at first Dan, I’m going to ask that if you eventually have to fight someone from a different coast that you raise your smoothing a bit and suck it up, it’s only 1st dan and if you lose you lose nothing. (1st dan doesn’t go in negatives).
3.) More players = more matches. Iif we have a show up of (example) 20 players, we will run 4 groups of lines. (5 players in one bracket, basically) This will make moving up Dan a little easier as you will eventually have to learn how to beat the opponent you are potentially losing to or trading wins with.
And last, I want to thank everybody on GGPO that played, you all respectively told me who won or loss without lying, not having to spectate every match is fucking dope.

EDIT: I was also thinking since so many people join, what do you think of instead of 1 match we make this 2/3, gives people more of an after taste while they wait to play again.

Also, great idea with the IRC channel. There were a lot of times where I was trying to multi-task and had a difficult time seeing if my name was called. I also like the idea of a 2/3 style, but I suppose that depends on how many people ask for it.

I love the MIRC idea. stop the trolls and spammers please. Also, the idea of marking down people’s coasts is great too. We could even have a map function with people’s names and markers.(ala, original GGPO) Although, I’m not sure the best way to implement that automatically.
I like 1 game style. I don’t mind playing casuals in between my Dan matches. I just have to pay attention to what’s happening in the chat while I play. If it was on mirc, it would be easier though since I wouldn’t have to read through flooded spam. I like the Japanese style, but I’ll go with what the community consensus is.

I think we should stick with one game, it makes it more intense and something different than a tournament. 2/3 will take WAY too long for this kind of thing.
Also, 5:30 is fine for me now, but it’s probably going to be a problem pretty soon. You might consider starting later or having at least one of the days on the weekend. (Sunday would be nice)

I’d vote to keep it at 1 match for speed’s sake. Maybe people waiting can play casuals? With IRC, it’ll be easier to see when one is up to play for dan rank and then they can say ggs to the casual match and continue on.
Metric put 5:30 pm PST (Pacific Standard time), which is GMT -8.
However, we’re currently observing PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) for the west coast US, which is GMT -7.
Seems people want 1 match so far, also I feel like we should have 2 different times, I’m thinking 5:30 on Monday to cater the EC and 7:00 for WC on Thursday. Also example lines will look like…

Smaller lines so you wont have to wait as long, more people = more lines. Also the stars indicate on whos currently playing.
