Now I know that there’s a GGPO site with a GGPO forum,but there’s like dozens of threads on there that talk about this problem and nobody seems to be able to help on there. And the so called solutions that are said by a few people to work,in fact do not work for most people on there.
So moving on…
GGPO stopped working for me 4 months ago. At first I would click the log in button and it would do nothing,but sit there. I made a new account and still nothing.
Eventually I read that a fix for it was to delete everything GGPO related that you have and also to uninstall adobe AIR then download the newest versions of both and reinstall them. I tried this and now when I click the login button I get an “Unable to connect to GGPO.net” message."
I’ve made more new accounts and I still get the error.
Some people said to give it some time and it’ll start working again after a few weeks like it did for them,but it’s been 4 months for me and I’m posting here for help because well,shit I might as well since there doesn’t seem to be any real solutions or replies on the GGPO site.
Try reseting your router or modem (stick a pen in the reset button) and then reforward your ports.
Still no good. It’s driving me crazy here. lol
What I’ve gathered from the GGPO troubleshooting forum is that GGPO simply doesn’t work with certain routers or ISP’s/connection types. I know this won’t help you because it originally worked for you and now doesn’t, the same thing happened to me; I’m just saying that as far as I can tell all of us former users are ignored because whoever runs the support forums would rather assume it isn’t working for us because it just doesn’t work for everyone, regardless of the fact that there are many users who have had it stop working permanently without any changes to their connection setup. I’ve even had GGPO suddenly start telling me my ROMs are wrong after many months of using the same set of ROMs. It’s a great program if you can get it to work but it’s unstable and simply stops working for many users for a variety of reasons
If there is a list of possible fixes for former users who are currently locked out(as in, beyond reset router/forward ports) anywhere online I would like to see it. You sure as hell aren’t going to find anything that helpful on the support forums.
I’ve even tried it at like 3 different friend’s houses on their PCs/laptops (that never had GGPO before) and at public wi-fi locations and still no luck with simply logging in.
That’s probably because a lot of people have shitty routers or router/modem combos called gateways. They suck. Just invest in a Cisco or Linksys router and put your modems into modem only mode, and let the routers do the routing and port forwarding. I had a similar problem a year ago, GGPO would log on but I would be in empty rooms and couldn’t see people, or, I could simply never connect to a game and if I tried, the room would unpopulate and I’d be stuck. All because my gateway simply did not port forward/dmz/blah blah properly and I had to buy a separate router. GGPO has worked fine ever since.
My problem has nothing to do with connection quality or logging into empty rooms. The problem is that I cannot simply log in at all. All my ports are forwarded. The fact that it would appear that a lot of people who could get onto GGPO before can not get onto it now is ridiculous. It’s also really bad now that it would appear that people who want to try out GGPO for the first time can’t now because it’s almost impossible to log in.
I just got on it fine. Can you get on Supercade? Supercade is way more hardcore about port forwarding. If you can’t log on to Supercade then chances are you don’t have your ports forwarded properly. If you can, it will report which port is open in green text and that’s pretty much proof port forwarding is working fine. Also, busy times of the day tend to cause more log in issues, sometimes you just can’t log in to GGPO because of server overload.
I’m aware that other people can still log in,but I’m saying that there’s lots of people who can’t log in all of a sudden for no reason regardless of how perfect their network set up is.
And I just logged onto supercade and had a match just fine. It says my ports are open. I’ve been trying to long back into GGPO for weeks all at different times,so server overload isn’t the problem.
Man that’s just weird. Do you have an extra account and PW, maybe I could test it for you? If it’s a problem with the account rather than the connection, then it would be on Ponder to fix it.
If supercade is working then you should be all good, definitely a GGPO issue.
I’ve had the same problem for a long time now. I’ve been trying to fix it but nothing works. I’m in the same boat, I’ve had ggpo since it was only alpha 2 and for about 6 months now I just can’t login at all.
I launch the ggpo.exe, type in my name and password and then clock login. Absolutely nothing happens… I’ve tried on my other pc and got the same problem. My setup is exactly the same and everything is setup correctly. No idea what’s going on, I just assumed the program was dead considering they’re releasing retail games with ggpo.
Nobody on the official forums seem to know how to fix it either.
Woah,I was wondering if people were still noticing this thread. I didn’t get an alert for it until now.
I’ve been trying other accounts and even tried my friend tried getting back on with his account with no success.
Ok I fixed the problem and it was really stupid. If I remember correctly I used to have to input my user name in all lower case letters otherwise it wouldn’t log in. I guess they must have changed sometime recently and now user names are case sensitive. I always input cptnryu since I’ve been using ggpo and it always worked until now but then I tried CptnRyu and it finally worked. So you have to type your username exactly as it was when you signed up through the ggpo website.
My problem was when I hit login nothing happened, no error or anything.
That was something I’ve tried before even on my newer accounts and it still doesn’t work. I’ve read it’s still the same for other people too.
