ok, So in training i’ll just say, I’ve just been working on proper execution for simple stuff.
And after a while of training, I like to enter online, whether it be endless or ranked(im low rank). And lets just say I end up blocking more than I attack. I played a Juri for instance, and couldn’t find a way out of her stupid combos and EX “tatsu”(dont know move name). So when I thought :hp:TK would surely get me out, he was smart to block. And im not hating on that. eventually i got cornered. Jumping was suicide at this point. And the barrage of kicks was overwhelming. so i lost lol.
I was trying to zone but Juri speed and flying all over the screen doesn’t help.
The key is time and patience. Not only in the matchup itself, but as a Viper player. It takes time to develop a feel for footsies and the tendencies of opponents, and to realize what your options are and when. The more you play, the more you’ll begin to pick up on little things here and there. Otherwise, keep practicing combos so you can maximize any punish opportunities and just browse the matchup thread to try and get some good ideas.
ex pinwheel is extremely unsafe for Juri it’s good to learn what moves can be punished if you’re having trouble with a particular character.Just go into training mode test out there options and try and figure out what you can do to counter them.
well since your still learning viper i would assume you struggle knowing what to do in general in a fight you dont know what your objective is and since you are new you are unable to apply pressure, mixup, etc. this is why your blocking all day along with the fact that you are unable to read the opponent to get out of his pressure. the only way to fix these is to keep playing and learning the only advice i can give you to be more offensive would be to make your opponent panic, to do this you must score a knockdown, apply bk pressure/mixup etc, this is pretty basic but you must walk before you can run so yeahhhh. making the opponent panic will in turn show you what they do under pressure meaning that you can see their mistakes and capitalize on the punishment which is essentially vipers design to be, proactive, predict and punish. and when you beat someone you should store the knowledge you gained from beating them and apply it to others who use the same character etc because they will most likely show you that specific characters options in the situation. using your character knowledge that you gain from playing, your defense will in turn become better, but you should also still practice teching proper blocking etc and when you see an oppertunity to escape offensive pressure( example would be gaps in their strings using a reversal, jump back, dash back, focus, etc) you take it and escape, hopefully barely touched, so then you can apply your offense. to make this short just keep playing it all comes with time and hard work
@ NURF3SPECT Thanks, I think what I don’t like about fighting low level ranks is this, everyone I play is offensive or plays like a noob and just jumps everywhere hoping to get a kick here or there. Regardless, my initial thought in a fight is alot of sj bk, ex seismo into sj bk stuff like that. Ya im sure with more and more plays i’ll figure this all out. I do hope I become a better viper with exp.
Ok so i thought this might better hlep me but, what kind of combo helps in a situation when your opponent is basically infront of your face applying that pressure. Is there anything quick enough like cr.MP-mp.TK. I imagine everyone’s short combo works faster against her. I guess i could dash back. But lately im finding that when i reset myself out of range to try to grab so control to bk or seismo, I find out quick that seismo is not a n answer because they always tend to jump even if i feint it.I try to lk.bk so that it makes it seem like i’ll do the far jumping. but i dont want to get AA’ed.
I love playing viper so much but sometimes i wonder how some of you guys do it when her normals are a weak point. Viper def. has options all day but i guess as a viper player i find myself stuck at this current level. Even tho ranked matches don’t really matter. It seems to pair me up to people of my “caliber” but now that i’ve gotten so far, Im starting to lose A WHOLE LOT. I’ve met my match at this level and want to get alot better. help help help
It must be close stand light kick too, St.lk is your main pressure tool along with Cl.mp as they are both +3 on block so they allow for more pressure after.
