Getting Smoked By Seth (offline)

So I’m new to Street Fighter IV. Was playing online, was getting destroyed so I’ve been spending time in training and playing arcade, having a grand time. But when I get to Seth at the end of Arcade and its cheating AI is incredibly frustrating and discouraging.

Basically my question is, should I be getting upset that I’m getting beat by this AI if my long term goal is to play competently against other players, or should I be sucking it up and get in gear to beat Seth?

Playing against the AI is completely useless if you want to learn how to play vs. real people.

You can use the AI in practice mode or play arcade if you want to practice safe blockstrings (training room dummy is still more effective), or want to practice hit-confirms, but that’s how far its uses go in terms of practice.

If you want to lose less against real people you have to lose more against real people, even if that sounds funny.
Losses shouldn’t discourage you, you should embrace them and learn from them.

Thanks for the reply. Losing against a real person is one thing, but losing to a cheap AI is another. But if playing against the AI is more or less useless when learning to play against real people is a good thing to be aware of.

Never play a SNK game.

Btw. you can beat Seth easily by just staying at the right distance to him. He will start using focus attack and always holds it till the end. Learn what your characters armor breaker is and punish him accordingly.

You can just jump and punish too. Also everytime he teleports just throw him.

I think I should mention that the seth boss AI isnt cheating in any way really, his “stats” are just better than regular seth and the AI acts in a certain pattern. That last bit is actually like some players, heh.

Basically he’s just faster/has faster moves, higher damage on some things and more health. The guy is to read/react, depending on the situation, which sounds silly to do on an “overpowered” AI but, hey, it can apply in real matches too, i suppose.
