Getting lost in the beat: Dee Jay Video Thread (front page updated 1/16/12)

that makoto never did a single wake up fukiage punch… he wasn’t crossing up hella deep to avoid that 5 frame invincibility.

That’s something that I dont truly understand(It’s why I hate DPs)…Crossing up deep means hitting later in the Jump…almost to the ground right? Aernt you vulnerable to DPs? I feel like timing the jump to where dp will fly the other way a safer bet…sometimes they’ll knick me in the legs…Usually when I try to go deep I get trade Dp or straight up beat out…But jumping in deep is the only way to get a true blocks string…Just seems like a risk all around.

What am I doin wrong?

i didn’t like akimo at first, but now i do.

i think spDeejay messed up in the makoto match. towards the end when it came down to the last bit of life he threw a lp as and the makoto jumped which is what you want. he should have AA slide > U2’d him. he still won though.
i don’t like spDeeJay because he didn’t zone. he kept going in against a character with better normals and frame advantage.
not mad though because he won.

I’m not really impressed by deejay anymore unless its against one of his bad matchups.

Jcool: the most jaded DJ on SRK.

Makoto Fukiage would have been stuffed every single time. Deep cross ups are not needed against Fukiage. It’s better to time your jumps so that your opponent will respect your crossup and fake crossups.

You are not doing anything wrong. SF4 engine is ass. But deep crossups against Shotos is a no no.

So how do you guys jump in on shoto’s without giving them too much respect? When I jump in on Ken, half the time(after getting dped a few times) I dont even press buttons…This seems to put me in range for Kara grab, step kick, etc. I dont like being in that zone with Ken…but against a good one Fireball zoning is pretty tuff.

It’s frustrating as hell when kens always grabing and putting his feet on you.

As a general rule, you shouldn’t jump in over any fireballs if you’re gonna get DPed. Gotta learn your ranges! I don’t usually raw jump over fireballs against shotos, I prefer knee shot over the fireball into cr.mk. It works just as often and you’re safer from dps.

Slide beats step kick clean. Stay a character width or so outside his step kick range and threaten with fireballs and slides. A good Ken will probably adjust quite quickly, but it’s a good way of keeping their spacing honest. This range is also perfect for EX sobat through their fireballs, giving you another way to avoid jumping into DPs. Staying at this range won’t give you a lot of great damage opportunities, but it’s a fairly safe range and you can usually bait out a lot of mistakes this way.

will sig this later.

and that’s how the dhalsim match goes. i’m going to try more jump roundhouse though. nice job pikotan.

Man F that match up…And Why the hell is Dhasim the only character who can TURN AROUND in the air?!..Why the Hell can stretchy version on j.mk cross you up??..Remember the days when Dhalsims long moves would miss if you were too close?sigh

wow i’m actually impressed.

he obviously doesn’t know the biggest counter to adon is ex sobat.

as long as you have one meter you can zone adon freely.

blew a lot of meter.

i knew the first dash ultra wasn’t going to hit from experience.

since we’re in adon mode, heres a replay of me vs a mashy one in ranked (arent they all mashy)

I love how you have the ability to adjust quickly…some matches might look bad…and then you straight come back. Usually takes me losing a game to readjust.

I dont know why Adons are so mashy…prob cause they get away with jaguar kick block strings…Same with Yun…mad Yuns are mashy.

Anybody with a “reversal” type move who isn’t a charge character is “mashy” against Deej, ESPECIALLY when they have meter or Ultra. Right through Deejays shitty block strings. Jab, Jab, c. l… EAT THAT ULTRA! Game over.

Very solid. He could have made the match easier if he jump back fierce the Oga shenanigans. Gen has one of those hitboxes that doesn’t allow DJ to hit bnb combos. cr.lp x2, cr.mp won’t always work. cr.lp x2, st.mk will work. The same goes for Guile, Balrog, Abel and few other characters. The other day I linked 3 st.mks against Bison. I felt great and was smiling at the damage

lol 3? I’ma have to try that!

I really disliked heijoutei’s playstyle vs. Gamerbee. Way too much wasted meter with the FADC combos, which, like Jcool said, should be used for EX sobats. TBH if you’re downbacking you should kind of be able to hit jaguar kicks on reaction with upkicks. Also I’m not sure what he was trying to beat with all those neutral jump mks.

His match against Kyantarou was much better, appreciated that.

I have a hard time reacting with upkicks against Adon online and get stand block more often then not. Ex sobat has made the match up easier.
