Getting into Street Fighter 4 in Asia

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Taiwan, and I’m considering getting into fighting games again- specifically Street Fighter.

I don’t have a console, and don’t really plan on getting one either because I’m more of a PC guy myself so I was wondering if
SF have a lot of players on PC ? and how competitive is it- compared to the population that are playing the game on xbox/ps4?

In addition, how popular/competitive is SF4 PC in Asia?
I honestly haven’t been in the fighting game scene since my days of playing the original SF, MK, KI at the arcades lol.

Lastly, with SF5 coming out in spring 2016, should i even buy sf4 now or wait for sf5 in 2016? Is there a way to get sf4 for pc cheaper? With sf5 coming out within a year, I would prefer to save the money for that, but on the other hand, I desperately want to start playing as soon as I can. Someone told me I should get cdkeys for sf4 now and just use it to practice the characters instead of buying directly from steam. are cdkeys legit? and how much cheaper are they?

PS, what fightstick would you guys recommend?

You’ll have much better luck checking out the Taiwan thread in world wide matchmaking.

For stick info, read the stickies in tech talk.

Level of competition on Steam in Taiwan isn’t very high but I have no problem getting matches most nights. Can usually get decent connections with players from Hong Kong and Japan as well. There are a couple of solid players out there but most are rubbish. You’re best off making a few friends on Steam and running sets with them in Endless.

If you can read Chinese, then you should check out the Taiwan SF Steam facebook group for matchmaking. https://www.facebook.com/groups/363774660356253/ There’s also a Steam group you can check out. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/USF4TW

I think the vast majority of Taiwanese players play online on 360, though there is a weekly offline session in Taipei. You can find the details on the TW Fighter page. https://www.facebook.com/twfighter

I’d say its worth buying USF4 now, after all it is an entire year of playing. And USF4 isn’t really that expensive if you ocnsider a whole year of play time. Even though some mechanics etc may be different in SFV you would still start off in a much better position after playing USF4 after a whole year

Also sticks, I love my madcatz fightstick pro. They are quite cheap now but its personal prefernce and price limitations I suppose. If I had money to burn I’d buy a razer atrox.
