Getting damned annoyed, Want to talk about this Poserspeak

BlazBlue players, of all people.

OP, I completely get where you’re coming from, but you should also recognize how you’re coming across. I could be entirely off base here but, in my mind, you can’t use the word “poser” without being an elitest, or a hypocrite. In my raising, it was a term always used to describe someone trying to fit into a scene that they weren’t “naturally” a part of. Like it or not, stream monsters and loud ass, talentless, ignorant braggarts are a part of the scene. I realize that I’m splitting hairs here, because you’re calling them “posers” in regards to their talent, but based on everyone I’ve ever known who seriously used the term “poser” to describe a person, that word just shoots right through me as elitest drivel.

Here’s an example. In one circle of friends of got, we’ve got a running joke where an absurd hypothetical is prefaced with “if i’m in there…” Understand that it’s always used as over the top as possible because of where it comes from. We’ve got one guy that most of us know who played football in high school and busted up his knee. Now he’s got classic delusions of grandeur, and every time we watch a game with him, it’s filled with him (being totally serious) commentating on how “If I’m in there, I spin right where he went left, and put that shit in on a 40 yard run.” His delusions of making these decisions better than pros does nothing more than amuse the rest of us at his expense. Granted, it’d be less hilarious and more annoying if it’s 100 of him doing it at once, but if you don’t want that then you’ve really only got one solution. Stay off the internet.

Seriously, getting upset about the bottom feeders of the net is, in my mind, the absolute most pointless endeavor one can undertake. I’d have more faith in someone trying to piss out a forest fire. These guys aren’t “posers” they’re just uncreative, delusional, and ignorant. You can only blame someone so much for being an idiot with nothing real to contribute.

Welcome to the world of slang. It gets overused and run into the ground when the masses pick up, and then new slang is born. Terms like salty, free, and scrub are tight as fuck bro. u mad. Don’t hate.

i generally agree with the op. but really, trying to stop the the types of people who post on stream chats from doing what they do is an exercise in futility. but yeah, as a rant, i agree. fuck that shit. people are idiots.

a brightside though: those stream monsters might one day actually go to a tourney, and give “free” money to the legit players, many of whom really need it.

You’re right, I gotta admit, I never looked at it that way before. You’re right that categorizing a group of people as posers compared to you and people “like you” is inherently elitist. My intentions may not be malicious but I can see how they could be seen as such. Good stuff people, thats the exact reason I made this topic.

I also gotta say I’m kind a nerdy/deep person in alot of ways, What I mean by that, is that I enjoy deep or complicated discussion. I was on the debate team in HS. So I think I may over-think things sometimes you know, its all intellectual to me, so I enjoy it. Damn that comes off snobby as shiii…

i like what nododgy said, i used to stream monster it up in mad Team spooky streams. but now i just turn the stream chat off unless they stream poverty, because during a tournament the most fucking retarded ppl come out saying salt, salt, swag, swag, frayy, scoops, scrub etc. And I dont even bother reading youtube comments ever.

I said the slang in 2k5 because my friends did… It became habit.
I think the new terms are stupid, so I make mocking comments using them.

I think the OP is salty about people saying “salty”

Don’t care much about any of the slang being used.
Granted, they all sound lame and shit (like saying salty sounded stupid when I first heard it, and it still does), but the only one that bothered me the most was when people called X-Factor KFC in marvel 3. When someone said that shit, I couldn’t help but slowly turn my head to the person, glared them the fuck down, and said “why are you allowed to breathe?”.

Reading up Dante combos, everyone posting the term ‘KFC’ and this entire time I kept thinking it was another move Dante has (guy has so many moves to begin with). So I could never understand what the fuck people were trying to do in combos, until Trag had to post up on the forum saying “quite saying that shit, it’s retarded”. And everything became clear to me after that…

i know what your talking about, COD and teh internets say hi

Well I mean, the Stream hosts could just censor these words.

The term scrub has been used since the early days of Counter-Strike (pre-1.6 obviously). I’m not sure if it has been used for Quake 1, though… Actually, I don’t think so. Never heard the term “scrub” during the glory days of Quake 2.

Back in the day we used to call new skaters scrubs - circa 91.

I was under the impression the epidemiology of the word was from the medical use.

Maybe, but I don’t think it was until Counter-Strike came up that the word was used online.

Oh MAN THROWS BEING! CHEAP!

I remember way back in the day, I beat this teenage douche with the throws at a birthday party, he got so mad that he was all “THAT’s NOT FAIR! YOU JUST KEPT THROWING ME! THat’s not how you play”

Throws being banned at my other cousins house, blah i threw them and won.
“You can do Zangief’s piledriver? How, you’re cheap, you’re doing some code to keep doing that, no f-you”

People got really angry back then.

Most people that use those terms simply do no more than watch streams. It makes them feel like they are a part of the community even though they don’t actually play the games they talk so big in.

I think the problem is when people talk about things they have no idea what the fuck they are talking about. Like they go on wikipedia or watch some youtube videos and then become an expert in a game they never played. That shit is 10000x more annoying than some bad online Yun saying “salty” or “free” all the time.

This is very true, I was making an argument about Hugo in 3S, as I play Hugo. I made a reference to “Hammer Mountain” and this douche-bag replies to tell me that I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about because Hugo has no super called Hammer Mountain. It pissed me off to no end, any real 3S player would never say some nonsense like that.

I never heard that term during the Quake 1 days either. ‘Llama’ was the ‘scrub’ of the Quake 1 community. That was the first gaming-subculture-based catchphrase I can remember coming across.

Lol. Scrub didn’t start out in gaming. Its just synonymous with “loser” or “bumass nigga”

Lmfao.

I love this thread.
I’m feeling you Chea.

It definitely gets old seeing “salty” or “free” after every match. (I mean, how are you going to call Mike Ross “free” after defeating Mago?!)

I’ll admit. I use the term "free."
Personally, I only say it when someone get’s perfected or the loser only done somewhat 10% damage (SF) or the loser didn’t kill a character (MvC) so I don’t use it after every fucking match.

Besides getting annoyed by the “poserspeak,” it gets sad to see a gorgeous female on the stream and see the shit ton of comments towards the girl.
It’s okay to say shit like, “Oh man. She’s cute as hell.” or “Damn… she’s beautiful.” However, “brb fapping!” “Send her back to the kitchen, Andy Samberg!” “Show your tits, bitch!” honestly makes me facepalm to tears.

The only thing I like about the stream chat is the creative trolls, because they actually make me laugh from time to time. Other than that, it’s just “salty,” “free,” “Oni is banned!” and “tits! fap fap fap.”

I’ll take “salty” or “free” over “lulz” or “l33t” anyday, but goddamn you guys. Don’t overwhore it while misusing it and grow up a little. Immaturity is fun and all, but have an off switch. Fuck.

Llama!!! How could I forget! LMAO!
