Getting Better at this Game w/ zero competition

So i’m trying to get better at this game. I finally have my own copy for DC and an arcade stick i use for this and mvc2. I, however, have ZERO available competition. So I am forced to play only in training mode and work on my executuon of comboes, which still sucks cuz i have trouble pulling off Double QCF supers while im on the RIGHT side. and only like 70% of the time from the LEFT side. Can anyone give me tips to improve my game given my circumstances?

Nothing prepares you completely for playing against the human mind.

With that said, it is still important to learn execution so I suggest you keep practicing your moves.
When I was learning I didn’t really have much competition either - my friends were not as passionate about 3S as I am so they were never much of a challenge.
I used to just set the CPU on hardest difficulty and train against a CPU controlled opponent in training mode - it will at least allow you to learn the basics and execute moves against a moving opponent but like I said before, your true potential is only unleashed when you play against real people.

NINJA EDIT: Might I also suggest you look at playing against people Online - Input delay is guaranteed but if you find a decent server, it’s not unbearable. You can usually find decent opponents online who (with time) will force you to learn new things.

/cry I only got a dreamcast so I can’t play anybody online. Isn’t there something that works on computers? kaillera or something?

I don’t know if we should forgive you for not knowing that CPS3 is emulated - meaning SF3 can be played online

errr of course i knew pshh duh who doesn’t  thanks for the link. Ill uh… go to it since you took the time to post it but its not like I hafta use since I already knew all that… hehehe thanks

Now i’ll need to figure how to get my PS2 Compatible stick to work on the comp begs for another link to some product

Try xbox live.

I think that might be an xbox only function.

That’s a big might though

you can probably get “better” just by practicing execution and understanding the “rules” of the game, but you will never be as good as you could be without comp.

not very fun though. unless you plan on traveling, i don’t really see the point unless you’re reaaaally bored.

Try to find people in your area.

3S is boring as hell if you play by yourself.

Wait a second, you live in New England and you can’t find any comp? Go to the match making forums and get some people. I bet theres people by you that play 3s within 20 miles. Talk about having no competition once you live in the midwest

One of these two should fix your problems.
After purchase you will probably experience some switchrate problems with the USB (it works at 125 Mhz), but that can be fixed by using a rate switcher, that will allow you to set the USB port at 1000 Mhz. It should eliminate input lag and let you play real people online as single player/training don’t do jack shit for your play level.

Oh yeah, the switcher link:

Talk about having no competition once you live in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky.

Do your homework. Know that knowledge. Watch those videos. You’re in better shape than I am with some computer competition.

lol someone in Kentucky plays video games???

Man try living in Bundaberg, Australia. When you mention Street Fighter here the typical response is "Oh yeah mate, I used to play it on the snes - I used Rye-you and Chung-Lee"
Mention Street Fighter 3 - “Oh really? Is there a third one!!??”

Psh, been there done that. Get the fuck out of there.

Truth is it’s difficult to improve without competition.
Anyway, here’s my piece of advice:

Play with as many characters as possible to at least know all their moves, bnb combos and how they play in general.
Since you’re alone, be sure to spend as much time on normal training than parry training (you can for example practice red parrying Yun’s MP in lp, lk, MP; or Necro’s second punch in his qcf + lp and many other moves), that way you’ll be used to parry the important moves of each character when you find people to compete with.
Of course, work on your execution and try to get familiar with all characters in general since that’s pretty much all you can do

I appreciate all the advice guys. thanks a lot
