Getting a new Computer today, have a couple questions

So i’m getting a new computer later on today, i’m giving my old one to my father and i’ve got a couple questions I need answered.

  1. Is there anyway to transfer my itunes music onto my new computer?

  2. I’d like to transfer some things from my old comp to the new one, is their any easy way to do that aside from putting it on a storage device? (Can I network the computers together and just transfer everything? If so, how?)

  3. I’ve had DSL in my apartment for a few monthes now and I can’t seem to get my router to split the connection between two computers. Both computers will be online but they end up losing the connection every 20 minutes or so and I have to reset the router. Is it because I have DSL? (Perhaps I have to open some ports?) Or is my router just fucked up?

Answers to those questions would save me alot of headache and would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks.

How old is your router? Some older Linksys routers used to have like a “keep connection alive” function which would prevent your connection from going idle when you weren’t using you computer.

You should be able to use Microsoft’s built in networking to transfer files between the computers. Just set up your home network and transfer the file to the Shared Documents folder. I don’t have time to go into detail but it’s relatively easy.

As far as itunes is concerned if it’s just mp3s in a folder you can just move that. If you use itunes to rip the music into another format I’m not sure if there’s any sort of copyprotection when moving the music. Someone else might know.

  1. If you have the actual songs, yes. Otherwise, if you’re transfering songs from your ipod to your computer, it won’t work because of some encryption crap (meaning you won’t have the actual mp3 or whatever).

  2. Yeah, read post above and look in the help section of your computer.

  3. It depends on your ISP. Some ISPs only provide one IP address so you have only one computer online at a time. Sometimes, it may work when you split it, but only for a short period. I had the same thing w/ SBC Yahoo! DSL.

Yeah i’ve got the SBC Yahoo, anyway I can get around that or am I screwed?

Yeah that whole itunes thing sounds like BS. But I think your account registers when you purchase new songs so I can re download them (hopefully?) and I can reupload the other music.
