Get Ready! The New Match-Up Thread

If someone knows how to play the hakan matchup it would help alot. I don’t have that much trouble against the character but playing against him just feels random since I have no idea how to aproach the matchup.

Right now I’m playing similair to how I play Gief except I don’t respect Hakan as much since his normals and command are grab worse than giefs but I’m not sure if thats the right way to do it.

I play that match like abel.Big hitbox, has command grabs, good focus, spear thing seems kind of like step kick. I just go in and try to get the stun.

I’m trying to anti-air cammy’s j.hk, from afar. I can’t lk dp because its too far and will just whiff. Is blocking it the only option or can i anti air it with a normal?

Have you tried heavy upkicks? Those move yun forward more than the light ones do so they might be able to hit cammy at a distance.

If that doesnt work then I’ve found st.mk works well against jumping opponents that are farther away but it is more likely to get beat by a jump in then his if you dont time it right.

Cammys jhk will stuff hk upkicks, you just need to time lk dp or go for ex.

have you tried fst.mp? any characters with long jump-in range such as Cammy’s roundhouse and Abel’s forward can bait reversals by empty jumping or actually doing their said air normals to get in. This problem isn’t specific to Yun as some characters with good special-anti airs have problem with this as well although characters like Ryu (with his far st. roundhouse) have long-range normals to counter-act this strategy.

this shouldn’t be such a huge problem though, at least not big enough to earn any attention. It’s a guess really, so you either light upkick or you bait the empty jump and you punish that empty jump by dive kicking on top of them or doing whatever else. If you want to play safe then I suggest back dashing out of the position or focus cancel back dash.

this problem is non-existent if you stay at the range that is pretty favorable to Yun which is mid to close range. The problem you mentioned only happens if you’re far-range which you have no business in being unless you want them to come to you when you have life advantage.

And as for your question against Cody - honestly, he’s a sitting duck. As an ex-Cody main that’s now hard-core Yun fan, I can seriously say you shouldn’t have too much problem with this match up. He has 0 tools to get away from Yun. No walk speed, no reliable reversals. So when you vs Cody you should be comfortable 90% of the time, which is the amount of time you’ll be in control of. The only time you should be afraid is when Cody cornered you into the wall, then that 10% of the most extreme fear and discomfort should arise.

In neutral game just do what Yun do best… just get in dat ass with your approaches (dive kicks, fake shorter dive kick into regular jump attack, neutral jumping outside of his fst.roundhouse range to see how he reacts). And once in you should have a mother-f**king hayday lol. Cody matches are some of my favorite cuz you can stay on him non-stop and most Codys will kill themselves by doing stupid shit like slide, ex-tornado, ex-zonk, and etc. You have more control in this match-up than you do against Abel which is saying a lot.

To all other Yun players - after playing more and more Sakura matches since the write-up, I can safely say it’s slightly in Yun’s favor (5.5) so the write-up has been modified and finished. I’ll be doing one today between Cody or Makoto so let’s see this thread come alive again!!

Anyone has anything on how to deal with Ibuki’s vortex?

Focus attack cancel backdash and upkicks

lunge punch os keeps not working on Cammy and Sakura. do they have really short backdashes or something? it just gets blocked.

How do i approach the Fei Long matchup? I like to pressure and go for command grab setups but i can barely get in. Also that cross up medium punch is so tricky!

Fighting Fei Long gets pretty difficult… -.-;; it’s def in Fei long’s favor but not all that much so it’s manageable. I try to bait his furthest rekka by faking palm and doing actual palm to get him to react to me, instead of going by his rhythm by trying to get in, then i punish with my fst.mp into whatever to start my offense. If i’m going against a good Fei you’re just gonna have to play your regular neutral game against Fei long, except being 10xs more careful cuz his buttons are fuckin stupidly good. There isn’t too much Yun can do to mitigate Fei’s defense, just gotta learn to play solid. There are many videos of Kazunoko vs Fuudo and Mago’s Fei Long, as well as other Feis for reference. Kazunoko just plays his game except a lot more precise and calculated.

Lets resurrect this thread!

I have an awkward time with bisons. Is there a way i can punish his psycho crushers?

Anyone have any advice for the cammy matchup? I feel like she basically plays the same rushdown style yun does but her footsies and damage are allot better.

If he does ex on wake up you can punish with light lunge at most distances. if you were point zero and you want dmg then ex shoulder does wonder as well.

Requesting basic tips for the Cammy, T.Hawk and Rufus matchups.

Rufus
Rufus has a large hurt box so you can do cr.mp x3, st.mp if up close. After command grab you can do cr.mp x2, st.mp. On his wake up you can do meaty cr.mp and block in time if he does an ex messiah. Be careful with predictable jumping due to Rufus preemptive A2A hk.

Cammy
Cmd grab, cr.mk xx lk upkicks, U1 works. Ex lunge, U1 works as well. If you aim and time your xu lk dk correctly on her wake up you can stuff her dp and even follow up a combo since she remains grounded. Learning this particular trick is difficult but can be useful to condition a dp happy cammy. I usually try to play a grounded game, threatening with FA as they beat her random spiral arrow and easily crumble her ex dk. I primarily try to AA with ex upkicks to maximise dmg and discourage her from jumping at me. Her hitbox moves further during midscreen GJs so certain combos require slightly different timing(eg. Cr.hp, f.mk x 4). This match is IMO pretty difficult because her reward risk ratio is higher that yours.

any tips on the sagat matchup? its seems impossible,
and i have trouble against honda too :[.

In all my matches, i can adapt and learn from my mistakes. Except for one, Blanka. I honestly feel like a retard fighting him. I pressure him like crazy and when i do get in, he rainbow balls away or mashes electricity and of course, i wait for it, try to punish and i get counter hit. I don’t have a clue what to do against him. Any tips on this matchup?

any tips on jumping opponents where you’re not sure if they are within range to dp, or you just read the jump late? is the best thing to do just focus back dash? i try anti airing with st.mp and st.mk and i get mixed results.

Something that I like to do when Blanka doesn’t have EX availiable is to meaty cr. mp him when I get a knockdown. This is a great option especially in the corner because you can confirm it, on block you can buffer in a command grab, and if he backdashes, he still gets hit. From neutral throw, you can also set up meaty safe jumps to tag electricity mashers on wake up. This can be used when they have EX as well.

In pressure situations, chain around 3-4 light attacks on block if you notice the Blanka is going to mash electricity in your pressure strings. Then, pause for a second. If he was mashing, you’ll be around cr. mk range, where the reversal electricity can’t hit you. Then you can usually hit him out of it and xx mp lunge for a corner carry/mix up situation. Sometimes in the corner if you do this you can walk back a pixel and be able to st. hk him and get a lp lunge/U1 juggle.

Some other stuff you can do is in the corner vs. Rainbow Ball, you can do the classic cr. lp OS lp + mk. Also, depending on where he aims you can track the ball with some of your moves if your timing is alright. It’s something definitely worth looking into. Be sure to also do db+lp+lk+mp against every badly spaced ball. Sure, you can punish them on block, however, you want to be able to handle the ones that just whiff at you, so that you can hit him out. Normally, as a bonus, Bad Blankas will mash electricity after they land, leading to a free punish.

That’s some stuff though. I have some safe jumps vs EX Up Ball too if needed. Hope this helps!
