"Get Ready...Survive!" The New Garou: Mark of the Wolves Thread

In other news here’s a new video I just uploaded on youtube. It’s a video showing methods of using using 0F supers in matches, escaping, countering and using certain option selects as well. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info I found out about that when I was there for the KoF XIII preview. Played a few people there on sunday that were actually quite decent. One guy in particular was crazy good with Rock no one could touch him lol. The Garou tourney iirc is two days before I leave. Hopefully I`ll be free to attend.

Went to TRF man its a tiny arcade in the corner of a shopping complex. Unfortunately Garou machine was off at the time. I`ll probably try again tom or day after. Noc do you know any other arcades for Garou comp?

Thanks

If you around the Shinjuku area check out Alpha Station. TRF should be the hot spot for MOTW since they hold tournaments every week there. You can probably try Mikado also or Club Sega.

Where abouts is Alpha Station? Ive been meaning to go there if I knew where lol.

Thanks

This is the map to get there:

http://www.alpha-st.co.jp/access/access.html

Says:

The Station Alpha
2-17-2, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Hyakuninch? Alphaville
2 minutes walk from JR Yamanote Line Ookubo Shin Okubo Station 2 minute walk from JR Sobu Line

Find those train stops and you should be able to find it if it’s only 2 min walks.

if its on or near a major street you could probably get a street view of where it is at with Google maps.

I got a lot of request to explain what is happening in the 0F video I uploaded recently. Here is what is happening during each part of the video to help those that don’t understand what is happening. I tested all these so they should be accurate to what is happening in this video:

0:00 to 1:13 - shows all the commonly used 0F unblockable setups.

1:20 to 1:36 - shows how to escape Gato’s 0F super by doing reversal backdash. (The backdash input is done within the last 5 frames as you’re landing)

1:37 to 1:46 - shows how Gato can counter someone trying to do reversal backdash to escape the 0F unblockable setup.

1:47 to 1:51 - shows how to escape Hotaru’s 0F unblockable by doing reversal backdash.

1:52 to 1:57- shows how Hotaru can counter someone trying to do reversal backdash to escape the 0F unblockable setup.

1:58 to 2:05 - shows that reversal backdash doesn’t work against Grant’s 0F unblockable setup.

2:06 to 2:15 - shows a way for Marco to counter reversal backdash by using his qcfx3 + C super, instead of using a fireball.

2:16 to 2:21 - shows that it’s possible to reversal backdash Kevin’s 0F unblockable setup but…

2:22 to 2:27 - some characters can still get hit because certain characters have wider hitboxes than others.

2:28 to 2:34 - shows how Jenet can escape Grant’s 0F unblockable setup by doing reversal backdash into her down + B dive kick to hit Grant.

2:40 to 2:44 - shows that it’s possible to do down + A + B as you land to go through Gato’s 0F unblockable setup.

2:45 to 2:49 - shows how you can kara the down + A + B into a special to hit Gato during the recovery on his 0F unblockable setup.

2:50 to 2:59 - shows what Gato can do against you if you don’t kara the down + A + B after the first 0F unblockable attemp. Requires him to have full meter for that to work so he can super again quickly after the first one whiffs.

3:00 to 3:07 - shows that against Kevin’s 0F unblockable setup you can’t rely on down + A + B to beat it out or whiff through it.

3:08 to 3:15 - except here it shows that Kevin can actually counter his own 0F unblockable setup by just doing down + A + B for a free counter hit. Since his down + A + B has the best hitbox out of all the others.

3:16 to 3:22 - Dong uses reversal A + B to not get fully hit by Gran’ts 0F unblockable setup. This only works with Jae and Dong for some reason. Might be because they have faster startup compared to the rest of the cast.

3:23 to 3:38 - Jae uses reversal A + B to escape Marco’s 0F unblockable setup.

3:44 to 3:49 - shows how Rock can reversal super against Gato’s 0F unblockable setup.

3:50 to 4:11 - shows with Rock that you can do qcf, down, d/f + B + D as an option select. So if Gato does his 0F unblockable setup, you then press the B button again to reversal super counter on reaction. If not then you just get his down + B to come out and hit low to link into his super anyways.

4:12 to 4:18 - just shows Gato’s 0F unblockable setup again.

4:19 to 4:33 - shows all the multi button presses you can use for option selects. So each row is for each button starting from A on top and going down to D and also shows for the A+B attacks as well.

4:34 to 4:43 - shows how Terry can option select as well with his dp + B/D special by doing it as dp + B + D. You will hit them low with down + B if they don’t go for the 0F unblockable setup. If they go for the 0F unblockable setup then you can press B/D to counter it with Terry’s special.

4:44 to 4:52 - shows how Kevin can option select his roll special qcf + D by doing it as qcb + A + D. You will hit them if they don’t go for the 0F unblockable setup with a stand A. If they go for the 0F unblockable setup then you can press D to roll through it.

4:53 to 5:04 - shows how Marco can option select his kick super qcfx2 + B by doing it with qcf, qcf + B + C + D. If they wait then Marco gets a normal throw. If they go for the 0F unblockable setup then you can press B to counter it with Marco’s kick super.

5:05 to 5:09 - shows why shouldn’t use qcfx2 + A + B as an option select. You’ll get his dp + A + B super to come out if you use it that way.

5:10 to 5:23 - this shows the way to do Gato’s option select kick super qcfx2 + B by using qcf, down, d/f + A + B + C. This way you wont get his dp + A + B super to come out on accident and get his down + A + B to come out instead. So if they don’t do the 0F unblockable setup you hit them with down + A +B. If they go for the 0F unblockable setup then you can press B to counter it with Gato’s kick super.

5:24 to 5:39 - You can do option selects with Freeman but for the most part. It’s more risky trying to pull them off cause they can just bait it out if he tries or get beat out.

5:40 to 5:47- shows Kevin trying to reversal super through Gran’ts 0F unblockable setup but it doesn’t work on him.

5:48 to 6:06 - shows 3 different ways Gato can setup his 0F unblockable.

6:07 to 6:24 - shows all the ways you can counter each setup. Freeman uses down + A +B kara into his reka special, Jenet reversal backdashes into her dive kick and Terry uses option select dp + B + D, B/D. Though Terry could also do down + A + B kara into his dp + B/D as well to counter it.

6:25 to 6:32 - shows that Hotaru can reversal backdash escape after her qcb + C if it’s blocked and they got for reversal super counter.

6:33 to 6:38 - shows that Dong can do his dp + C after his qcb + B to prevent Grant from getting him with his kick super. You can use the option select method with dp + B + D here like Terry’s as well. If Grant does the super you press C to get the dp + C to come out. If he doesn’t do it you get a down + B instead. dp + A also works here.

6:43 to 6:51 - shows how to counter Rock’s down + A + B 0f counter attempt against Gato’s 0F unblockable setup. Gato just needs to go down + B to counter it.

6:52 to 7:01 - this shows how Gato can counter Rock’s option select qcf, down, d/f + B + D attempt.

7:02 to 7:06 - this shows another way for Marco to counter a reversal backdash attempt against the 0F unblockable setup. He uses his qcfx2 + A super.

Thanks for the info, completely missed the second post haha.

Also in that 0f unblockable video, why do they start off with a s.fk > jump fk, can’t you start it off with a normal jump fk?

It’s because of the command recording feature on the PS2/360 ports. If you notice in the video it shows the words replay on top when they activate the command button to start. They record the 2nd player hitting them first, then having them jump up with a weak attack, then land into the 0F unblocable setup. That way the 1st player which would be you can time things correctly to see if you can escape the setups.

is anyone planning on going to G.A.M.M.E in Orlando next month?

I’ll be there for at least one day with a neo geo and Garou searching for some garou comp…

MWC 2010 Garou results

Anyone know if there’s any footage?

I don’t believe there is, the level wasn’t really very high, including myself, so its no big loss.
in any case woo 2x MWC garou champion.

Question from a new player here, what options does Kain have under pressure?

Maybe I’m just doing it wrong, but I have some trouble against Butt players who dash up poke/short hop j.D constantly and Kain’s flashkick doesn’t seem to come out fast enough so it ends up getting beaten out.

Other characters I have problems against are Jenet and the fact that a lot of players abuse her super safe dive kicks (Hotaru too, to an extent) and Jae with his super safe… everything. Anyone with matchup tips would be really help me out. Thanks.

If you do your charge kicks into breaks consistant enough you should be able to beat out Marco’s dash in stand :snka:'s or small jump :snkd: attemps. If not you’ll likely trade hits in Kain’s favor. You can use his :d: + :snka: + :snkb: to make Marco stop dasing in :snka: on you as well. Jenet can be if you can’t deal with her dive but I think Kain actually does really well agains’t her. If you land a counter hit with Kain then Jenet is going to be in pain. You have to learn to GC Kain’s charge kick between the dive kicks, to make them stop doing it. Besides that :d: + :snka: + :snkb: is actually good agains’t it. I don’t get what I mean by super safe with Jae. If you are talking about his pokes you just have to JD or :d: + :snka: + :snkb: when you know it’s coming. Charge kick also works well and can land you a counter hit if they are getting too reckless with them.

So uh, what exactly about those setups makes them unblockable? Is it just hitting someone with an a2a normal, then landing before them and hitting them with a no startup super as they land? Is there a frame of vulnerability where they can’t block when they land or something?

there isn’t a frame like that. its that the black screen when doing a super makes it so no imputs are registered, thus on the normal blockable frame the move becomes unblockable. dashback works because you can imput that in the frames before landing, same with the other options, but i guess for some reason blocking isn’t registered before landing i guess.

is how i understand it.

Pretty much what Shiki stated. It’s unblockable because during the black screen no inputs are registered so blocking is out of the question.

Any new matches?

There is always new matches up on nico but I don’t have much time to upload all those matches. Takes a lot of editing work to get them to fit youtubes 10 min policy. If I find any single matches I’ll try getting those up.

Is anyone planning to head out to American Devastation in AZ
