Any tips to beating Hokutomaru and Dong with Grant and Tizoc?
I’m anxiously awaiting those Hotaru and Jenet write ups.
Grant has awesome pressing strings, just take a look at Howard Arena’s player for example. Try to pressur’em back because you have what it takes.
Hoku and Dong rely a lot on their air-to-ground or air-to-air game to attack, so be patient and set traps. I guess Grant can use poking a lot much more than most of other characters of the game.
I personnally don’t have much strats for The Griffon… I try to just defend as much as possible and adapt to the opponent gamestyle, then find opportunity to strike back hard and good.
^Cool I’ll give those Grant matches a watch.
HOw I play my Big Bird is that I poke with St./Cr. LP, mix in his Down+AB, and for jumps I use Jumpin LK or HK. I try to Feint whenever possible, and carefully try to get in range for the 360. I kinda just realized the distance of the first hit of the QCFX2+K; its range is good enough to punish some stuff.
I wouldn’t stick out his :qcf:x2 + :snkb: unless I catch them with the :hcf: + :snkb: or if they are just plain wide open after a super. Tizoc has to be play very defensive agains’t Hoku and Dong since both characters have great rush down options, especially in the corner. Just wait for openings and mix in your 360 grab attempts with pokes, so it makes them thinkg twice about backdashing/blocking/JDing. Both characters have 2 hit jump ins so it can be pretty tough to GC with Tizoc from a jump in at that. Just be patient and wait for the right times to poke and punish.
Grant has the tools to deal with Dong and Hoku especially his dash which is fast. You just have to make sure to always build meter whenever you land a knockdown or if they are playing keep away with ya. Make sure you dont get cornered or it can be lights out for both Tizoc and Grant. Just remember to be patient and dont try poking out random crap that will get you counter hit/create an opening for a combo. Tizoc’s stand :snkb: is probably his best poke since it has so much range and leaves him somewhat safe after a feint cancel. Use Tizoc’s small jump :snkc:/:snkd: to keep them at bay but to also land some hits. It can be difficult to counter his small jumps on reaction and it leaves Tizoc at the right distance for more poking/dash 360 grab mix-ups.
Remember about Tizoc’s :r: + :snka: +:snkc: feint which has upper body invicibility to go through certain specials and or jump-ins mostly.
In air to air, Griffon’s D is good for its range and comes out pretty fast for a heavy kick, but his C is great too, cause it overwhelms lots of moves and breaks lots of normal anti airs.
Small jump C leaves an open qcf A/B cancel qcf D (Ppower), 9 violent hits ^^
It also crosses up as well which is why it’s good to switch between the two, depending how close/far you are from there.
Thanks for the vids posted, I havn’t checked in with this thread untill recently so thanks once again. Im so impressed with the character variety in high level play, it reminds me a bit of GG in that respect.
As of right now I can’t get anymore matches up on youtube because my video converter decided to take a dump on me . So for now I will upload the matches on megaupload as .flv files. All you need is a player that lets you watch flash files to watch them. I know this is going to be a pain for a lot of you but this converter is just being retarded on my pc. I’ll also have the Jenet/Hotaru writes up done by tonight. Stay tuned.
P.S.
I would be nice if someone else could try converting the videos into .avi files so I can go ahead and upload them on youtube as well.
I won’t mind taking a swing at converting the vids =P
MWC Garou vids coming soon stay tuned…Losers Finals match between Arturo and Humbag got commentary on it…
Just wanted to let you guys know that I don’t really play garou and I haven’t fucked with it since like t7 in Canada… Only reason I won was cause humbag and Justin told me what to do in training mode for 15 minutes. Yeah… My own opponent nice enough to tell me how to play the game. Otherwise I woulda lost. So props to humbag you’re a beast.
Just so the rest of you know spooky recorded this with his dvr and mic assist so expect way higher quality video and editing compared to what you see in geese’s usual SNK videos.
Thanks for the info Arturo. I’ll be looking foward to the vids anyways . Well since I can’t convert the flash videos here is all the new tournament Garou videos for your enjoyment:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=632JCKVD
921 MB!!! of matches (yea I know it’s big…no homo)
Here is what is on the zip as far as tournament matches go:
TRF 5/31/08 Tournament 1 on 1
TRF 6/7/08 Tournament 1 on 1
TRF 6/14/08 Tournament 1 on 1
TRF 6/21/08 Tournament 1 on 1
GPS 6/21/08 Tournament 1 on 1 and one extra match exhibition set of matches.
2 part best of 10 matches = ???(??)???(??) Dong (Atsu) vs Terry (Rainy Forest) (Not sure on the Terry players name translation)
I’ll do my best to get all the matches put on youtube as soon as I can convert these flash videos. Enjoy.
good job overcoming the odds, anyway your stall game was impressive, I didn’t know how to deal with it while under the pressure of my first tournement (excuse #1). Next time I play I hope I dont run into tech difficulties with the controller im used to (excuse #2 and completly my fault).
lol…
Either way I want a rematch lol as I feel I shouldve won against him lol.
It’s all good we both knew we were winging the fuck out of that shit in Losers SemiFinals…lol. (Since we both havent played it really in a while/only casual)
So yeah I want a rematch with Humbag and Arturo lol…both matches I feel I shouldve won lol.
Hotaru Tidbits
Well until the Hotaru write up is finished, I can give my 2 Cents in for Hotaru.
In general, Hotaru has the answer to everything, but dominates nothing. Her main damage comes from her BnB combo d+AB, qcb+B (break), qcf+C. Her qcb+AB break is a reflector, counts as a launcher, and counts for a decent battery move all in one. I’ve mentioned before, Hotaru’s anti air (dp+B/D) has multi hitboxes, which is always a plus in my book. Outside of multiple hits, it’s been my experience that it has pretty nice priority as well, but that’s not surprising from a lot of anti aerial attacks. If you can successfully capitalize on a tick throw, I’d go for a command grab which is her hcf+D, this not only does more damage, but it is also inescapable as well. If your opponent is comfortable with blocking, and even moreso on crouch blocking, then you can get free hits with j.d+B which can also behave as a crossup. Of course, you can follow into other maneuvers from that. CD will turn you around while airborne and can follow with multiple j.d+B, or even into, A, C. Sometimes, if you feel like retreating, using her qcb+B/D is a great way to get away from your opponent after a her j.d+B.
Her super move of choice is probably her qcfx2+B/D since it’s generally safer although doesn’t do as much damage as her other super. Once again, it’s an anti-aerial move and is another plus in my book. Though be aware it’s still JDable and not garunteed to connect every time. However if you happen to manage her aerial qcb+B/D in the corner, you can combo into her qcfx2+B/D.
When Hatoru is in T.O.P, you want to change your combo to d+AB, qcb+B break, CD. Guess what? This move is also an anti-air, so your opponent will probably play a more ground based game given the circumstances. If that’s the case, you would be smart to realize it’s punishable if misused, as most other things would probably go.
As far as her GC goes, I’m not too entirely sure, but I imagine your move of choice would be her dp+B/D out of GC because of priority. Hotaru doesn’t do the best damage in the game, but she isn’t left without options. More than your average character, she won’t do as much pressuring or rushdown games as say the likes of perhaps Kevin or even Jae Hoon. Outside of all this, I’m not too sure if there really is much that needs to be said.
It seems her a or b into the break combo is more important since its faster. though down ab is good too.
also her j. d is hit confirmable into her kick super if you land relatively close to them and your too high up to land her more damaging combos.
Thats what ive learned from watching match videos anyway.
The wiki has good info on her mixup game.
I dont think her top attack is better as an anti air than her DP since they need to be more above you and it lacks invinciblity, and not to mention her kick super is a godly antiair . also i think her qcf c is a more damaging finisher or its the same damage i’m fairly certain its not more damaging.
Well nobody said it was a better anti air to begin with and I did make my mention about her qcfx2+B/D being her super move of choice, didn’t I? =/
Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to check that out =P
Hehe yeah I was giving Sabin some tips.
Even though I won the first game he went OG on me and got me with throws hehe.
That and I stopped being able to JD and GC
I suck at this game lol.
what about her other super? because ive seen a lot of people actually using it on combos after a down C
