I usually try to JD, and JD to dive kick, but would like something else to do in this situation to mix it up?
Well what you should be doing is looking at when the Kevin is doing the jump in :snkd:. You have to look at the angle they are trying to hit you in. It’s possible to use :d: + :snka: + :snkb: to beat it out but you have to time it just right. If you dont you’ll end up getting hit almost always. What I usually try doing is mixing it up between just JDing the jump in to trying to :d: + :snkb: agains’t it. Again it depends how they are using it. If the Kevin player is doing it from straight up then it’s better to just JD the :snkd: in that situation. You can do a super to try to counter it but chances that it will trade hits is pretty high. If they do an early jump :snkd: then you can crouch and counter with :d: + :snkb: into :qcb: + :snka:. The safest thing is always to JD because once Kevin get’s those hits it in will be lots of hurt.
Now as far as his :d: + :snka: + :snkb:, you have to also look at the angles they are using it. Usually what I do is deep jump/small jump in :snkd:'s tend to beat it out if you hit from a good angle. It can traed but it’s better than him landing the hit on you. You can JD then dive kick after to counter it, since it leaves Kevin with some recovery on block/JD. You shouldn’t really be jumping in on Kevin unless you are going for a possible crossup mixup. All you have to do is keep him out of the air and keep him stationed on the ground. Use TK dive kicks to start the pressure but make sure you dont leave wide windows for him to reversal with something. Especially when Kevin has full meter you really have to watch out. Since Jenet has that hit bug where things tend to combo on her and no others. So Kevin can hit confirm from his :d: + :snka: + :snkb: into his :snkd: kick super for a free juggle afterwards.

I’m just starting to get into SNK games and I’ve considered picking this one up on XBLA. I’ve been playing around with it on GGPO and I was wondering if there is still a decent competitive scene for this game. If not, I might just move on to KoF98UM or KoF XII.
There are plenty of players online on GGPO who still play the game daily. The xbox live netcode isn’t so hot so don’t expect to find many smooth connections on it. As for offline tournaments there are rarely any at all. They usually only happen as side tournaments at any of the major tournaments hosted yearly. KofXII is the next new game out but atm it has a lot of probs with the console release. Though now people are playing it offline mainly, but I believe if the online gets better more players will play it. Hopefulyl SNK will step up and fix those issues soon. It’s noe of the few possible gamse to make the EVO line up if enough tournaments are held and people show up to play.
yeah, the pool of good garou players on ggpo really surprised me. Though character choices are somewhat predictable the game is still alot of fun, even if you’re just in the corner getting feint-chained while holding down-back.
I dont know about predictable because most of the better players tend to do roullete most of the time. I still think there is a good variety of character usage with the online players. I for one usually do roullete also when I do play on GGPO/2DF just to have more variety when playing people.
Welp, I probably won’t be able to play for a while, my Saturn controller’s d-pad is officially stuck in the down/right position. Shit’s not even a year old and it’s already out of commission.

I think I fixed the problem (temporarily?) by just taking apart the controller and putting it back together. I don’t want to get my hopes up by saying it’s fixed, but it works for now.

In all my time on 2DF I haven’t come across you or Giby at all, that’s considering you guys are using the same nicks as here. Came across a really good Kain but the guy was a complete dick so I doubt that was you.
Anyhoots, I freaking hate Kain’s break DP and Jenet’s air special. About the only move I can definitely hit her out of it with is Hoku’s df+B (goes right under her legs and hits her before she lands). She can lock you in so bad with this damn move. And Kain can just do that thing over and over.
Garou is insanely fun some times. I love freeman and I think I’m pretty close to mastering him I belive.

I dont really play much on 2DF anymore. Most of the better players are on GGPO anyways. If you have AIM just hit me up if you want to play. I also dont really use Kain online so much. I tend to do roullete mostly.
Yeah, 2DF is that garbage, I couldn’t get down with it at all - the ping cut-off for playable games is much lower on there than on GGPO.
I can play people with pings up to 220 ms on GGPO, but on 2DF it’s more like 120.
Unfortunately GGPO doesn’t allow custom hotkeys for some silly reason, so I stick to 2DF.
