"Get Ready...Survive!" The New Garou: Mark of the Wolves Thread

That’s in Fight Night Round 4. One of my friends got reminded of that when I told him about that.

I highly doubt it. Around half the achievements on the list have some kind of Engrish in them. SNK devs are just that dumb.

I do too, but I try to keep my connections to 3 bars or higher at the very least. With Garou, I have played 100 pings and under and still get input lag.

You can’t even use standard networking measurements with SNK’s netcode to define how bad an online match will be. SNK has managed to evade even networking logic.

Sigh…

well, there’s always Midway…

…oh wait.

I’m glad I didn’t buy, and this is making me very wary of KOFXII.

Fuck You and that monkey nigga too!!!

But GG’s though.

Reading the responses to this port, SNK seems to have such a bullshit attitude. I’m sure that if you analyzed how many copies of the game sold in Japan versus abroad (US + Europe as main markets), you’d find out that the game sold more abroad since it is a download release that is affordable. And yet there are no thoughts given to these markets. Hell they probably had a part-time intern translate those achievement texts. “Hey Shingo, you speak English right??” This attitude wouldn’t be so bad if the US and Europe still had arcades and we could just use this new port of Garou to practice at home. But arcades are gone. A fighting game without workable netcode is essentially worthless to players in the US and Europe nowadays.

I work in a Japanese game company and can attest to how little thought is given to the overseas market during development. SNK will probably be surprised at how much they sell overseas because they didn’t give the first thought to the format they are selling the game in and how successful that’s been in the US. They probably think of the US and European markets as “omake”, i.e. “extra” revenue that’s just there for them after they complete the domestic version.

And as for KOFXII, buyer beware. Not only the netcode, but when I walk into arcades here in Tokyo, I’ll see 10 guys surrounding two UM98 machines and no one playing 12 at all. I literally have yet to see a match between two players on a 12 machine. And I’m at the arcade at least 3 times a week.

Thanks for the heads up Addy. I was definitely going to buy KOF12 when it came out. I became hesitant after Garou. Triply hesitant now after reading your post. I will wait on the Netcode verdict and wait to see if anyone actually picks it up.

One thing that I found wary is that every other fighter coming out right now has a limited edition pack on presale at Gamestop. SNK, having seen the hype about fighters going on around them, hasn’t even bothered with that.

They have this nonchalant, “We don’t care about the consumer” attitude that’s going to be their downfall. If what you said about KOF12 in Japan is true (and I have no reason to doubt you, so we’ll say for sure it is), then not even the Japanese market is going to be able to save SNK from yet another bankruptcy.

I harken back to what I said prior. Why support SNK when they won’t support us? Spend your money on fighters from Namco, Capcom, and Arc System Works, you know, companies that are actually trying to make the fans happy.

First off, translation is often done by part time people. There aren’t many companies that keep translators on staff for these kind of projects because they’d be free most of the time. So yeah, probably part time, or contracted out to another company.

Secondly, sorry your game company doesn’t give a shit about foreign markets. I don’t think that’s necessarily indicative of all companies, but even if it is, of course they’re going to think about the home market far more than they’d ever think about overseas markets. That’s just common sense. I don’t think american game companies think about how much their games will sell in Japan either, in the same way that I wouldn’t expect an Japanese musician to worry about targeting their music at an audience in Africa or something.

Third, you really haven’t seen ANY kof12 matches? I live in Kansai, and, while it’s true that 98 and 2k2 are still by far and away more popular, there’s definitely matches off and on every time I go to the arcades.

The main thing I want to say though is just that this game is awesome. IMO, if you have any means to play it with people, do it. Play it offline, make some friends, do what you have to, it’s worth it.

Lol, and we wonder why SNK isn’t regarded as a great FG company along with Capcom and Arc System Works.

i know how you feel. ive always felt that SNK just doesnt give two flying fucks about the USA. At least Ignition is trying to get this game noticed like with the free tournament/party in LA. A special edition would be stupid not to have.

They had really solid games, could’ve been a competitor. Sad thing is, they may only go down in rememberance for CVS2: A game they didn’t even develop.

The input lag is completely ruining it for me. Ive played about 15 people in player matches and 5 in Ranked matches. only 2 didn’t didn’t have any input lag, maybe 5 or 6 were tolerable, and the rest were completely broken :frowning:

I don’t even consider SNK’s name in CvS2.
1.) The Capcom chars own the tier list
2.) SNK’s main games’ chars are hardly in there. How much Garou do you see, then KOF.
3.) SvC Chaos didn’t pull off well, though it did get played

They make good games and that’s all. Don’t expect much more.
I’m done with the XBL argument, b4 this thread becomes unnecessarily cluttered.

I played the same person online in both Garou and SF4 with much more noticeable lag in Garou, so it’s confirmed enough for me that the netcode is poo.

What a bloody shame that SNK has been reduced to a pile of garbage company that doesn’t care about consumers.

The game description was translated in 15 seconds too:

Only played a few games online, but I didn’t really have any problems with lag (wired 360), though I’m just a casual player (so far). I was surprised by how bare bones the presentation was though. The competition is fierce, especially now with so many releases either just out or just around the corner in the same genre, and unfortunately it seems like they just dumped the port out as cheaply as possible. Even if it had perfect online, I’d imagine it would turn into a ghost town real quick.

Meh.

Atleast i have a practice mode.

Seriously though.

Everyone that wanted to play this on live start playing on GGPO.

Everyone, This can be a good chance to create a large playerbase for it online.

Treat your xbox copy as practice mode.
Play on GGPO.

If you’ve got a Stick for 360 it will work with GGPO aslong as you get: http://xbcdplus.truth-network.swiftfree.net/ these drivers.

Pad exactly the same thing.

Also: I suck hell since i’ve only played this game for a few hours but god i love it and i’ll be on GGPO if anyone wants to beat my ass.

Snk > SnkP

Now that I have the hang of this game, I think I’ll start playing on GGPO now.

Yeah fuck those guys. Making good games…

The hitbox link in the first post is down it seems.

Anywhere else it can be viewed ?
