"Get Ready...Survive!" The New Garou: Mark of the Wolves Thread

Wow…I’m glad I checked this thread before downloading Garou. Thanks for the reviews, guys.

This is truly unfortunate.

It feels somewhat cool to have a console port since I don’t have to keep turning on my laptop.
Basicly, $10 got me a training mode. And Bullshit netcode

Where GGPO is 100% free.
I’m gonna use all 9 of my emails and complain to Ignition about what they should and shouldn’t be doing.
Cause I can’t accept this pathetic code for 98(02)um and XII.

I played a few matches and I had no lag whatsoever? Did not Host games by the way.

Signing on terrible netcode. 70 ms ping and I couldn’t break. Just to make sure it was lag, I went into training mode and did it 10 in a row, no problem.

edit: I’m on FIOS, if that matters. I’ll play more tonight when perhaps more people are on and try to play, maybe it’ll be better then than it is now.

maybe it’ll get better later

It’s not playable.

It’s only fun if you host…otherwise, good luck!

MvC2 is not coming out next week.

I’ve had a few games already with very little input lag, and most pings ranged from 75-200ms. Certainly most of the games were at least playable. On only one occasion was there brutal input lag (1/4 - 1/2 second). It’s no GGPO, but with some luck and patience I would guess that you can find good games.

If anything, it’s a wonderful social experiment to discover how unimaginative the average XBL player can be. I mean, seriously, is everyone going to pick Butt because he can do a shoryuken?

Well i hosted a match against one guy and after the match i asked him was there lag on his side. He said no, and i asked again. No input lag or anything?

…I don’t think he even understood what I was asking.

I’ve had a few matches with a ping of around 60, they seemed fine. The lowest I’ve seen is 30, and again, they were fine. If you think about it though, ping of 17 or so should mean one frame of lag. I’ve been joining matches no higher than 70, and it seems okay.

edit: The problem though is finding matches with a ping so low. Here’s hoping during peak hours this’ll be easier.

i couldn’t find matches at all. ill try again later to see if its still bad. maybe all the people they vsed earlier that thought the online was crap was all from japan though thats just a shitload of wishful thinking.

Were you using Quick Search? I think that’s broken and it’s never found a game for me. The Custom option is slow but it gives a number of results for me (mostly in the 100-200ms ping range).

It may have been asked but how does the netplay compare to Fatal Fury Special? I actually had some great games on that and when I was actually able to find people to play against it was very good much more often than it was bad.

I believe its the same code as SamSho II/FFS. In other words its a giant mixed bag.

I had about 10 or so fantastic matches as both host and not. Very little input lag or noticeable delay. Doesn’t hold a candle to GGPO even at its best, but its still playable.

But playing people overseas or with a ping over 160 or so…its a fucking mess and not worth playing.

Well after a few matches from the release last night and what everyone has already mentioned the lag is overall bad. Comparing it to GGPO the delay really screws up timings and what not. I did find some good connections though and it was playable to some extent. It does seem like the higher the ping the more input delay will be felt. Besides all that the port is a straight up arcade port. In training mode you can use the command function to record t he dummy to do what want it to for 10 seconds. It’s the same exact command button option from the PS2 port.

All I can really say is if people want to try out playing with me just send me a message on xbox live or an invite. I wasn’t expecting the game to have better online than GGPO but we at least for a good port either way.

I had my first 3 matches at lunch today. No noticeable lag.

It’s a good thing I checked this thread first.

Saved myself some points.

I just played like 50-ish games at 90-140 ping

It runs fine-ish for me. Hosting has a slight advantage of maybe a frame sometimes two depending on the game. It’s certainly a large improvement over Kaillera. GGPO? Not quite. SNK needs better netcode for XII to be a success. But MotW seems passable. I’m able to punish stuff on Block and break moves. Hosting or not hosting. It isn’t perfect tho. Maybe it gets a lot worse as I go up in ping.

My experience so far with any match where ping is 150+ is unplayable for me.

Anything below that runs smooth with little lag depending on connection. For me this is no better or worse than Street Fighter IV.
