Just wanted to come in and say that today on GGPO the Garou room was relatively active (at least for me, as I’ve never seen more than a few players that weren’t AFK) and we topped in at least 6 simultaneous games. If that really isn’t much, my bad lol.
I’m really trying to nail the basics right now but I’m always down for casuals. I just REALLY need to pick up a stick :wgrin:.
I’ve checked like 2 videos so far, great quality and gameplay. You’re a real treasure chest when it comes to vids Noc.
Since I haven’t looked through all the vids, this question might be retarded, but did you end up playing any other characters than Kain at Evo? If so, is there any footage of those matches? And did you record the moneymatches you were gonna take?
I have some casuals I recorded where I used Roullete mostly. I’ll try getting those up asap. No money matches happened since Justin was pretty busy and Kane didn’t show up to EVO. Overall the tournament had a low turn out so not as many players as last year came this year.
Since EVO is a console tournament and most players brings their own controllers, it would only make sense to run it on PS2. Even though people played on the MVS setups as well, but for the most part a lot of players rather play on their own controllers.
Haven’t seen Giby post in this thread but this is a question for him, maybe you can answer it though Noc;
In the Grand Finals, everytime Giby lands a qcfx2+D P-Power while Kain is grounded, he follows up with this combo;
cl.C > qcb+A > d+CD > qcf+D > AB > qcb+A
Now usually the last qcb+A qhiffs, actually I didn’t see it go in at all I believe (he played superb though!).
My question is, why not use the combo I always do after I land my super;
cl.C > qcb+A > CD > qcf+B > AB > qcb+A
Because I always land my last qcb+A AFAIK.
Possible reasons I can think of why Giby uses his combo;
More damage?
Longer travel distance to get the opponent into the corner…
That’s about it. Anyone have a clue? Maybe Giby himself? Great finals you guys.
EDIT:
Okay looks like I was wrong, Giby is Feint Canceling? Because I just saw him do the first combo in T.O.P Mode which is impossible to do with the inputs I put up.
I can see it’s a good combo to do in T.O.P Mode now, gotta learn that one…
Giby does it that way since he uses pad which makes it hard to do the special cancels with Kevin. On stick you can do the special cancels even in TOP mode but you have to do B+C+D instead of just C+D. That way your TOP attack wont come out and you still get the stand C.
About to fix that I forgot the video was 13 mins long heh. I’ll have to cut some things out to make it 10 mins.
I’m glad we got to run a side tournament but sad with the lower turn out compared to last years. Also Justin not entering kinda killed it for me but I still had a good time playing casuals/tournament overall. I’ll be doing my best to make it out to FRXII next year. If anyone is going, I’ll more than likely see you guys there. Giby might also be able to make it out so hopefully we got a good amount of entries there compared to EVO. Until then I’ll see you guys online and I’ll start uploading more japanese Garou footage this week.
Man, I wish you could make it out to Season’s Beatings III, Fugee runs a pretty damn good tourney and I love MOTW but have yet to find any good comp.
But it’s in OH, which is a pretty good journey for you, maybe you could share a ride with Wong.
last year had a REALLY good turn out, but it DID have Wong, Yipes and Sanford there. This year should be sweet too.
Hey guys !
Out of strats and nice tourney vids, come check my another-100%-no TOP-noobier-combo video starring Kevin Rian as:
“Look, I’ve grown another power bar”.
Yea Kevin has a lot of variations of his 100%. Though I still doubt you’ll see anyone pull any of them of in a match since the room for error is there.
That was cool, I’ve done something similar in a match once actually. But seriously, there are so many characters in Garou that can dish out a ridiculous amount of damage if they can land a jump-in attack when the opponents cornered so in that matter I don’t think Kevin is that much more broken than other characters. Besides, he can’t pull these combos of in T.O.P (or maybe you can, Nocturnal showed me the inputs if you look up a couple of posts in this thread).
It’s a damn shame that more people didn’t recognize and pick up on MOTW for the great game it is. It’s a little unbalanced but it’s definitely inordinately fun. Even with what seems to be an odd execution entry barrier (mainly feint-canceling), the game is definitely a great and fun alternative to 3rd Strike.
After that moment of reminiscing and what-if-isms, the guy who asked me to let them announce Garou side tournaments got me in “trouble” with the Cannons this year when I helped with Evo. Y’all are jerks. (Just kidding, love you all. No homo. Okay, maybe a little homo.)
