(Semi) Jason Cole vs Justin Wong:
edit: anyone got any insight on why justin does dive kick, cr.LP xx HP tornado lots of times in this match? also lol at the end of the second round, j.HK > dive kick actually combos? also I think it’s good if you’re close by when you knock down to do two cross-up meaty dive kicks over him, that way he loses his charge and a headbutt will whiff

Justin vs Daigo:
Also, LOL @ the announcer in the Mike Ross fight.
“This is serious business”
“Snake Strike for Massive damage!”
Also, yeah, Wong uses j.HK into dive kick in some of the other fights too. Maybe it’s got other uses besides making the opponent lose charge? The way I see it, maybe it’s best damage if the opponent ends up too low?
Justin vs Iyo was interesting. No focus attacks, barely any EX attacks. Justin was doing more FADC’s than anything else. Hmmm. Maybe focus with Rufus wasn’t as good as I thought it was.
j.HK into dive was to keep the opponent close, where Rufus (obviously) deals out the most damage. And you’d definitely want to stay close to Sim; once you get bounced out to where Sim can zone the bajeezus out of Fatty, it’s hard to get back in.
Never occured to me to FADC forward after a blocked EX Messiah. I guess why not seeing as how other characters use it, he uses it to throw or start up some dive kick stuff, not sure if I like it though but I’ve never seen another Rufus do that outside of Wong.
Fully agree, I’m afraid for this board . Wong played pretty damn aggressive, at least compared to his typical defensive play. I’m actually curious to see if he’ll drop Rufus at some point, I realize you had to stick with 1 character in the Gamestop tourney, can’t help but wonder if he would have counter picked if given the opportunity.
“you don’t deserve to win with “fat dude” rufus” <-- my latest lovemail from a ken dropper
anyway, I don’t think j.wong should drop ruf, he’s obviously still got a lot of stuff to iron out if the daigo match is anything to go by; I know he said rufus was his pad character, so I guess that’s why he was lumbered w/him for the rest of the gs tourney
iuno, j.wong, if you’re out there, u gonna drop rufus now?
People only look at the “ultimate” winner in these things, forgetting that Justin actually beat the Japanese CHAMPTION, Iyo, and the Korean CHAMPION Poongko, who was also using an outstanding Ryu. They compare Poongko to Daigo and want to call him a scrub, but Poongko slapped around Gootecks, who is either the best or 2nd best Balrog in the US.
Maybe Justin will switch, maybe he’ll simply adjust to what he’s learned, but if you use his Rufus as a barometer of what can be accomplished with the character, I think the news is pretty damned good for everyone in this thread.
99.9% of the people playing this game don’t have to worry about how to beat Daigo
I really don’t think we’ll suddenly see a massive influx of casual Rufus players after this. People mostly don’t like him for aesthetic reasons, as opposed to his moves/playstyle, and this isn’t going to change that. And as far as moves do go, I mean, he’s got no fireballs to repeatedly spam, which the casual players seem to be drawn to…
When I watched Justin play Poongko and Gootecks the night before at Keystone, I was blown away at his gameplay regardless of what character he chose. He beat Poongko’s Ryu seven times straight with Abel. Beat Gootecks’s Boxer 5-0 with his own Boxer.
After seeing him play in person it’s my opinion he can take out any “#1 ___ player in USA” in a mirror match.
I highly doubt Rufus is simply a ‘pad character’ to Justin. Iyo cleanly took out Kindevu’s Rufus but lost to Justin’s. That should say something. But at this point, I don’t know if it’s Justin’s best character. I think Rufus has more lop-sided matchups than some in the cast, and Justin may be better off with a different main (sadly).
