1 round (!!) of sextaro vs. bobino from the gootecks’ bar fights. apparently no-one’s interested in rufus mirror matches. I’ve no idea what was going on tbh, though one of the rufus does try to cross the other up with j.MK
ima scour the arcade infinity vids later. they have a boatload more of sextaro and bobino. two different playstyles. i also think more’ve the rufus/rufus matchup needs to be discussed
What’s your problem specifically? I sometimes have trouble with Ryu matchups, but it’s not so bad for the most part.
If they’re zoning you with fireballs you have a few options… do short dive kicks over the fireballs and try to close the distance
focus the fireballs and try to dash inward
galactic tornado through the fireballs
messiah, EX or regular, if you’re at the right range and you can anticipate a fireball.
Once your in close, just do what Rufus does… short dive kicks, galactic tornado combos, EX messiah. If your opponent is shoryuken happy play a little more defensively and try to bait srk’s and then punish. Once you get a knockdown make sure to do a short dive kick just above their head. I dunno if it crosses up or not, but after you hit with that you should be able to do some rufus block strings. I like to end a block string with the vacuum punch if I have meter… it does a surprisingly high amount of chip damage either way.
Also when you do this you can dive kick, wait half a second, then hit the throw command… if Ryu tries to throw you, you tech it, if he does a dp, then you’ll already be in block stun so you can block and counter his dp. If he sits there and blocks, then you throw him, either way you come out on top.
I’m pretty cozeny knows this info already. I mean, I know all this info and I STILL think it’s a tough match-up just because you have to be on point while Ryu can kind of dictate what you do. THEORETICALLY, you should be able to handle everything Ryu has but it’s pretty damn hard to implement. The biggest problem online in my opinion is the fireball + lp shoryuken combo. They literally do it every time and you have to ALMOST go psychic to get in in time to punish a lp shoryuken when you’re already 1 character+ away. Personally, I need to work on timing/execution of my tornado’s to counter not only fireballs but also SB’s, TS’s etc (ok, well maybe not so much for TS’s). I honestly think that’s probably the best way of getting inside FB spammers, it’s just tough on execution/predicting.
I mentioned this before on some other post, as Ryu likes to zone alot with his fireballs a big part of this match up is predicting his fireballs & actually getting in his face. Knowing when to jump over his fireball properly an getting in the J.HP to combo into what ever you want. If you keep that going it gives them second thoughts if they should throw another one again from mid range, other wise you will be eating his shoryuken all the time if miss timed properly because he would of recovered from hadouken already.
If there just waiting for you to jump in either bait the jump or roll and EX Tornado, from like the mirror matches we played the other day I did the same thing.
As people may think Rufus is a really good character just because of his combo ability into ultra I only see him as decent character, as everyone knows for Rufus is all about Risk and Reward but being able to combo is one thing but staying in your opponents face to keep them guessing all the time I would say is harder. So mixing it up with pokes and jab combos makes it harder for them to read you, and from there go in for the more damaging combos. (GOTTA LOVE THE PRESSURE)
If you plan to jump over fireballs make sure you don’t do it too late. Punish wiffed lp dp’s with c.mk xx ex tornado or c.lp xx lp tornado. Your rushdowns have to be very tight as a simple mistimed link can lead to jab dp -> fadc > ultra for ryu.
I wasn’t saying SF4 is a risk and reward. In general people find annoying when you go to Dive Kick them when most of them time you can get jabbed out so easily or srk most of the time against shoto characters. Same thing happens if you try to messiah over most projectiles, point being most things for Rufus attacks (mostly) are not safe at all.
That’s the whole point of him being a risk and reward character, either trying to get that hit and succeeding or just getting punished plain and simple that’s how I see Rufus.
If you feel I’m wrong to a certain extent explain why?
(Im open minded to most thing’s, so being wrong to a extent aint so bad also it would be good hearing other people views about Rufus!)

regarding that video, coz, you said it was a textbook display of my outline; when i watch it, its more’ve an evolution to the guideline i wrote up…lol. all the shit that i said not to do I do and gets punished in the beginning, and then i finally start playing a solid gameplan
arcade infinity vids.
some matches i feel like are dated, but you can draw from all of them if you’re watching correctly.

rufus vs guile & claw I believe(i watched these all a while back, and am making the token post i promised)
Wouldn’t of EX Snake Strike got out of that last move Valle did to end the match.
EX Snake should of won the match or at least pass through the EX headstomp.
