Picked up a single-issue Northlanders story “Thor’s Daughter” to see if I might enjoy the book. It was pretty lackluster, think I’ll pass on the series unless you guys think the rest of it is leagues better than this issue.
I’ve only got the first two TPBs, and I think the series is pretty fantastic. I’ve been meaning to catch up on the rest, but just haven’t had the chance to get them.
As such, I haven’t read the issue you’ve mentioned, but I guess not every issue can be a hit… Still, I’d give the first TRADE, BABY a shot. It’s an eight-part story about Viking pride and honor.
Ok, I’ll do that! thanks for the info
I just read the first three volumes of Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth. Great series so far. It’s a character-driven, post-apocalyptic (yet rural) story about kids who, mysteriously, are animal/human hybrids. Really well-made series. I think the style of it is pretty interesting - it’s not too dense and it’s a quick read because there isn’t a whole lot of prose to bog it down, but the art meticulously conveys a great sense of emotion. So it’s fascinating to see how Lemire communicates so much information about the story without relying too much on dialogue or narration, especially because I think a lot of Vertigo comics tend to be somewhat text-heavy. Superhero comics could learn a lot from Jeff Lemire. I recently read his first Animal Man TPB from the New 52 and that was some quality writing.
I heard Sweet Tooth is ending with issue 40, which is still a few months away, so I hope he can give it a proper ending.
Vertigo continues to get its balls chopped off by DC Entertainment.
