It looks like your game plan revolves around psychic Replusor Blast, which is bad because it is slow to come out, unsafe on block and it is a random hit box so it doesn’t alway hit where it should be. Also do not try to Replusor Blast Doom’s s foot dive because it is likely to lose or trade, neither way Tony is dead if it happens. Space him out with footsies!
Actually Tatsu beats Replusor too, because of the angle the Tatsu is coming in(right on top of IM), there nothing IM can do about it other than push block and reset the positioning. Yeah his air fireball is also a pain in the backside. I can’t believe it is as durable as the light Uni-beam.
You can zone out Capt America with Uni-beam and stay long range to avoid Charging Star. Capt is the most dangerous at almost full screen where it is max range for Charging Star and Shield Slash will hit twice really fast, so stay out of there. Do more air Uni-beam and Smart Bomb and stay in the air. IM can zone out Capt with c.h into fly and air dash away when in trouble.
Hulk can be easily zoned out by c.h (and call assist at the same time) xx Replusor and Uni-beam. You should never be in range of his s.h anyway, if anything you should worry more about random Gamma Charge because it has the armour to blow though your moves now, it is also easy to hit confirm it into hyper. As alway, use c.h a lot and stay in the air. This actually is one of the few decent match ups for IM.
If Wolverine get in and start his pressure its over for IM. Replusor will not stop dive kicks at normal jump height and only a fool do it from miles up in the air, so don’t even try it. You will have to rely on your assist to help you keep him out along with some well timed jump back s, if he has Akuma Tatsu backing him up, may god help you.
Your plan will not work against a Vergil with a beam assist. And you won’t be able to rush him down, because his equally long ass normals will hit IM before he can get his dash out. This is a match up IM can only win with the right assist (drones), you will need something to stay on the screen for a bit to stop him going nuts and to keep Replusor safe (but if that Vergil has good footsies, he can punish a whiffed Replusor with Stringer easily), c.h xx fly is good because it recovers fast enough if Vergil teleports and it comes out quick enough to stop a projectile assist.
I think Doom matchup is fine. Iron Man has plenty of tools to stop abuse of foot dive including hitting him with the front of your proton cannon gun to get big quick damage for him abusing it. If you wanna be safer you can set it up off repulsor blast but if you just need something super fast to deal with it you can just whip it out. Most of your air normals can lame it out also.
Akuma: Yeah I thought I remember it beating repulsor
Capt: I don’t think that will work. Capt can go full screen with a simple charge star into super which easily puts you in the corner where iron man is helpless (assist can easily get blown up). Of course getting out of the corner can be easy with a sj into fly but then his shield skill can go into the air which is another problem.
Hulk: You forget that any good hulk will also be backed by assist and if your me its usually drones or task arrows. I usually try to get hulk in the air where its a better matchup for iron man but his jump s is even better then sentinels (at least for this matchup).
Wolverine: If you start zone wolverine with unibeam you think he is gonna normal jump into your face? No he’s going to try a sj into dive kick or drill claw or w/e. And repulsor also can hit on the ground and force wolverine back which is why its so good. And your right if they have a tatsu assist backing them up then It’s a really bad matchup.
Vergil: Repulsor can also deflect beam assist(depending on which one). Anyways when I was talking about repulsor here i meant against teleports and those random d.h. When your rushing down virgil you should be use j.s.(As you should for any chatacter except the larger ones) It’s really difficult to predict exactly when to punish it because of iron man accelerates in his dash.
Thats why you stay in the air against Capt! Not like he can do a upwards Hyper Charging Star. You can SB him to death, and drop down with ADD s if he rushes too hard and kill him.
This is also why you want stay flying against Hulk, so you can get above the drones and arrows. He can’t even dash against the air Uni-beam because he hops high up. You can easily combine this with SB and c.h to shut him down. And its not like Hulk can catch IM if he decides to run. This match up is only hard if you are losing and you are forced to get stuck in against his s.h.
And what makes you think Wolverine is going to stand there and take the Uni-Beam? Uni-beam is not a fast move, Wolverine can easily normal jump over it and call assist at the same time to beat it. And once he is in mid range, his stuff is hard to react to and comes out way faster than any defensive movement IM can do, sadly IM is likely to eat a dashing c.l, Berserker Slash, or dive kick. Dive kick is not his only option to attack you, in fact he can slide under the Uni-beam and knock IM down for more mix ups.
Most beam assist is more durable than Replusor unless you do spread, actually it won’t matter because you can’t react with this move because its too slow, and any semi-decent player will not random raw teleport or d/h into this move. You are not going to get close to Vergil because his s.m and s.h will hit you well before you can get close enough to hit him with j.s. Vergil’s ground movement is better than IM, you are not going control the ground against him without assists and since IM has to commit whenever he does a move (whether is Replusor, beam, SB, dash, s.h, c.h, etc.), it is easy for Vergil to whiff punish or get behind his ass and kill him.
Anyway is no way to react to teleport plus assist with Replusor Blast. This move is too god damn slow, unsafe on block and whiff and you have to throw it out early to “yomi” their teleports, which is never a good thing to do. Replusor is only decent when covered by assist calls and stopping something that is ridiculously obvious.
Is burning a meter for Angled Proton Canon as a reversal worth it against teleport characters like Vergil, Dante, and Wesker? If barely have enough time to repulsar but Angled Proton Canon can be canceled off a whiff Unibeam to knock them out of the sky during the teleport animation…I think.
Teleport characters are making my life hell…and EVERYONE around here has a Vergil, Dante, or Wesker on their team.
Unless the bible is wrong, I don’t believe this is true. Repulsor Blast is 5 frames x 3 points, which if I understand the durability system correctly comes out to be 15 durability points, which is a shitton. Plasma beam H is 12, and the assist version is only 8.
I wouldn’t say it’s worth it considering that it not only costs a bar but is also quite risky. If you mistime it and the cannon hit whiffs you are probably dead, and even if the cannon hit is blocked you can still be punished in many situations. Despite the concerns voiced by vian_siu, I find repulsor + assist call to be the best response to teleport characters. The repulsor blast covers the assist, which in turn covers the repulsor’s recovery (assuming, of course, that you’re using an assist that stays active for a long time, as you should be with Iron Man IMO).
Throwing this out to get missiles or drones on the screen is an effective way to establish momentum or at least prevent the other guy from doing what he wants to do, and Vergil/Wesker can’t do much about it as they don’t have projectile supers to punish it with. You have to be more careful doing it against Dante since he can happy birthday you with Million Dollars, but his teleports are the easiest to deal with out of the three, since he can only teleport from the ground and can only go to one place. If you’re in c.H range then you can do c.H + assist; the rocket will stop them from supering and you cancel the c.H into various things depending on the situation, cancel into repulsor if you smell a teleport, unibeam/fly otherwise.
Now if you’re playing IM on anchor, that’s a different story. In my experience you are just SOL there since repulsor is very punishable by itself. Without access to assists, my best advice is to try and stay mobile. Teleporters want to go behind you, so move forward whenever possible. Doing patterns like SJ forward + airdash/flight appropriately afterwards is your best bet.
Again, bear in mind that this is all just in my personal (and admittedly quite limited) experience.
Alright, I’m gonna use this thread to vent…because that’s what its for, right?
I get so fucking frustrated with this character. I’m not dropping him or anything, but the amount of execution he takes FOR everything gets to me sometimes. When you have punk ass characters like Wesker or Vergil that have combos so easy Michael J. Fox could do them with one arm chopped off, I kind of wonder why Iron Man’s shit has to be so hard in a game that was made to less execution intensive in general. Its so fucking annoying how every option he has stems off of flight links or combos that require you to stagger j.H, j.dH with very specific timing or you fuck it up, a bnb that is easy to screw up in the the middle of a match, an airthrow combo that is easy to screw up if you press j.M slightly too early…its all too much, and I can see why a lot of people say “fuck this” and don’t play this character.
I don’t know if an update to this game is happening, so I’m gonna have to learn the character as is. However if an update his happening, Capcom should take steps to make this character easier. More hitstun on air normals, a better magic series, shit like that, its just so stupid how hard this character is for everything he does.
Hey, if you’re going to play Iron Man, it’s like joining the marines. IMO you shouldn’t be complaining 4 weeks into boot camp because you knew full and well what you are signing up for. I agree it’s annoying to watch people taunt after doing easy mode shit with Wesker or w/e, but that’s ok, it just makes it all the more satisfying when I run it back on them with Tony and return the favor.
I agree honestly, but its why I chose this thread to vent my frustration and not another one. And honestly, I’ve been playing exclusively online for the past few days, which is probably why I’m so pissed. Iron Man is nearly unplayable online besides Unibeam zoning, some Smart Bomb area control and magic series combos (and MS combos aren’t even guaranteed thanks to lag).
I really shouldn’t be using online play as a garage for anything, I just want that stupid trophy for passing 6th rank…
