I’ve seen plenty and like you say, Americans stopped playing well before that level and also, the percentage of characters that utilize cc infinites is still small with regard to the number of characters being used.

Well, I think it’s because we haven’t gotten good at it yet. If America was as good at these Crouch Cancel infinites as the Japanese, I’ll bet over half of the characters we see would be characters that have such infinites. I mean, Vega, Sagat, Cody, Ryu, and Karin have them, from what I remember. I know other characters have them, too, and characters like Sodom have it so that, after a CC is done, they get to keep Juggling for a long time to the point where when they are done, they already have 25% of their CC meter back. I just know that if the level of American play kept up with Japanese play, the characters with CC Infinites would take up most of the characters played. It already has in Japan.

It did take YEARS to get to that level with Japanese players consistantly playing. If Evo hadn’t dissed it and it reached that level in the US, then I would’ve been all for new rules or even omitting A3 from the line-up. As it was, there were maybe a couple of players in the entire US capable of OTGing with Akuma(Bas madness).

It only took that long in Japan because the glitch wasn’t discovered until a few years. Once it was discovered, it only took a very short amount of time before they found the Infinites, and then found ways to allow Customs to lead into them. Once discovered, it took very little time for it to degenerate into that level.

So, with regard to what type of tournament it would be, I don’t think cc infinites are a real issue. If I get caught by V-Sagat, V-Ryu, V-Vega…etc, I look at it like I deserve it.

I don’t agree with that. The reason I don’t agree is because I know that if at “Round 1, FIGHT!”, the first thing you do is jump at Ryu, he can kill you straight up from there with a Custom. Getting ticked to death by a Dhalsim when you’re Vega is not nearly as bad. You can still get away from that. But to die because you jumped forward at the beginning of the round and getting infinited to death just kinda sucks.

Quite frankly, I would rather be caught with an infinite than to watch a ratio 1 get owned by one opening by a ratio 2 Sagat. But we still play CvS2 in that way even though it encourages boring play.

Word.

A3, WITH cc infinites is still a helluvalot more exciting than watching 2 cvs2 players trying NOT to fight. With infinites, A3 is still a fighting game. “Fighting” being the operative word.

Actually, A3 with Infinties is exciting until one lands, and then it is deflating and frustrating.

I’d just like to express that in order for the quality to degenerate, one has to be at a level that NO ONE in the US is at. To me, that makes the issue irrelevant. Wouldn’t you agree?

I’d agree 100% if this tournmanet was America only. But Japanese will show up, and they will enter. And when our top players get taken out by the CC Infinites, it’ll just be kinda annoying, especially if the Finals is full of people just watching Infinites.

Regardless, I’d actually be very happy if Alpha 3 gets voted in. Only because I want to see how it turns out, and if we do all get bored by Infinites, at least that’d seal the final word on the whole topic. As it is, there just isn’t any closure with Alpha 3.

Hey James! I agree with that statement 100%. A3 at TS5 was NOT fun to play against the japnese when they pick X character and cc inf you to death. (mainly Kindebu, that cheap bastard :P) I know were all as rusty as fuck because we havent played in years…but still…that was definetely kind of a turnoff. It was like watching a-cho vids, except that they were in person.

On that note though, of course i wouldnt mind to see a3 at evo, actually i wouldnt mind playing half of the games on that list that’s gonna be voted on, heheh.

On ST the flip kick is still pretty risky against slide ticks since they’re easily baited.

This is a general question thread, and I have a general question (well, two questions, but it’s really the same type of question), mainly with the choice of games: Why are Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate and KoF2002 on the list instead of DoA3:U and KoF2003? I have no stake in any of these games (if anything, I would vote for SFA3), I’m just curious. I think I might know why some might not want KoF2003 (Duo Lon fockery), but why DoA2 over DoA3?

DOA3 is not in arcades, is not online, and does not have the longevity of a MK or SF brand name… would a DOA3 tourney be anything more than DOA2 players. Are there a ton of DOA3 specific players out there going to evo? If so than i can see the point.

Also, why is MK:D there at all? Who the hell wants to play that at a tournament? If you’re going to throw out an MK game, why not MK2 or UMK3?

If there’s a ton of people that want to play their game and are going to show (at least to the best we can say) then why is there a subjective element to the selection at all? Did we really know what MvC2,CvS2, or 3s would be like at the first major they were in?

Good point I think all of those games will get a good enough showing to play out at evo. And if the numbers were low people from other games would cross over for fun.
