General 3S/3S OE Thread. NO DISCUSSING REBALANCE, unless you like INFRACTIONS!

I wonder what the smoothing is set at for ggpo? Or if it uses some kind of system to like change the smoothing based on ping? Anyone have any info at all on that?

Here is nice and tidy list of the remixes.
Tweleve and Necro
Menu
Yun and Yang
Urien
Sean and Oro
Ryu
Remy
Q
Makoto
Ibuki
Hugo
Elena
Dudley
Chun-Li
Alex and Ken
Akuma

Tell me if any of the links are wrong.

Edit: Urien’s theme should be fixed now

Links are fine EXCEPT Urien’s needs to be fixed.

I just noticed a lot of the songs sound funny compared to the originals. Q’s theme needs moar caowbelle

If you find a link of the character select remix get that up too. I remember that actually sounding decent.

So many comments on youtube already. Apparently a lot of people play 3S.

Jezzus. Those old songs were terrible. Sorry, but my god. I would rank the 3S themes as the worst of any and all fighters. Past and present. And, lest you think I’m trolling, let me explain myself …

A lot of complaints are being thrown that 3SO “ruined” the NYC Jazzy song. Well it didn’t. You see, 3S was just that, the third game. But it was the third game in a failing franchise. So in an effort to make the game sell it’s third edition, Cap completely revamped the “feel” of the game so that it could compete with more “gritty” titles back in 99. In order to do this they stole the hip-hop trend that was raging in Japan at the time. Japanese parents were really afraid and put off by the way their kids were acting and dressing, particularly teenage males. Think white parents and gangsta rap circa 91.

To do accomplish this, 3S took everything from giants attack and turned it on its head to fit the tastes of those J-hip-hop fans. It’s whole soundtrack was “hiphop-ed” and “breakbeat-ed”. It’s colors were muted. It’s backgrounds all went from bright locals to delapidated alleys or sepia-toned vistas instead of the blue skies it used to have. All the hit and Super effects were toned down so they didn’t seem so “Fun” and “happy”. This was all to appeal to kids at the time but in my opinion it lost a lot of what makes SF, well SF. Bright colors, fun effects, tongue in cheek fun and amazing iconic music (at least coming off of two.)

Example, Here’s Jazzy from 3S

And here’s Jazzy from GA

See? The game used to try to fit the “SF” epic feel of a battle in full-attack mode, not a lounge act for hip-hop fans. Plus, you can’t say that if a rapper ever came out that sounded remotely like the 3S themes, especially the character select, that he wouldn’t be laughed off the stage. Those songs are so bad in any context outside of 3S.

And here’s an example of the graphics and effects from II

and here’s that same fight in 3S

If you didn’t know any better you would think it went from 3S to 2I because there’s more detail to the backgrounds, the UI looks easier to see, the Super are more vivid and attack effects are more obvious. But of course it didn’t. So while some may look back on 3S with rose-colored glasses it’s important to admit that 3S was very much considered a cash-in by casual fans because fighters were treading water and it needed to stand out. It also hurt us dedicated fighting game players because it introduced balance changes like Sean and new characters like Chun. But still, for some reason, 3S fanboys prefer the lesser one and don’t want it at all altered despite once having a superior product.

P.s. I just re-read it and see I come off preaching for balance and hating 3S. I don’t. I’ll buy it. But I really wish we had gotten something more like 2I or III. I hoping we’ll get some options/DLC for the superior BG and BGM of the first two. As well as some new features and possible balance DLC. Sorry can’t help it. Don’t worry though 3S fanboys, it won’t happen. The game could never make enough to warrant the production costs at this point.

To be fair Dudley’s 3s theme isn’t the same theme from NG and 2I

Dude who are you trying to convince here.

Anyway. It’s not like you can really ever even hear the themes. Or any of the sound when actually playing.

I wanted to pop and lock at this part
I like this remix. It’s its own song but has just the right amount of the old track within it.

I’m enjoying Remy’s remix too.
Yun/Yang remix I like
New menu theme is great.
Necro/Twelve Remix needs more wubwubwub

when i think breakbeat i think old school prodigy music .

and in 3s i dont hear any tracks that sound breakbeat .

i think 3s is all hip hop and jazz

thats my opnion.

also the remix main menu theme is sick.

Third Strike sounded like house music with jazz mixed in…

That doesn’t sound like hiphop to me… maybe to Japanese folks it does… and what do you have against hiphop to begin with?

Also 2I looks and sounds like an Alpha game…

3S feels like something different…

That was a cool story up there.

Oh and yeah…only the theme song done by Infinite is really “hip hop”. If you think everything else is hip hop you don’t understand music genres that well IMO.

You should have already been able to tell that SF3 was trying to do something different when Honda and Blanka weren’t in it any way. Most of the reason why people play SF3 to begin with is because it’s not SF2. That’s what was good about SF games back in the day. There was a lot of different varieties of them that all had their own feel. Unfortunately for the last 3 years it’s been nothing but Bore Fighter IV unless you live in Japan or near one of the 3 arcades where people still regularly play other SF games. I couldn’t be bothered by GGPO 3S cuz it was kinda glitchy and didn’t work well on my comp any way.

Exactly. That’s my whole point. 3S’s version isn’t some definitive, perfect OST that should never be remixed or changed. It’s just the one people had the longest and now they’re touchy about it. Sorry, I just hate 3S fanboyism because, outside of having the most characters, it’s really the worst game in the III-series and I wish fanboys would check out the older games more.

And to the people above, “Killing Moon” goes for a breakbeat feel. And if you don’t think changing a games theme music from this …

to this …

is an effort to appeal to sell more copies, then you clearly weren’t alive in the 80’s when America went rap crazy and did this … Rapping is extreme!

3S soundtrack is def house and jazz influenced. Not so much hip-hop there really. Shrug, I like most of the songs in 3s, don’t see the big deal here.

I’m so elite that I out elite-d your elite and I like the new 3s songs because only the more-elite-than-elite do.

Man what the hell, I enjoy 2I for messing around purposes Never played NG but if you seriously think they’re better than 3S theirs something wrong in your head. OST wise, I rank 2I right up there with 3S, their just different soundtracks and are two different styles, nothing wrong with that. Though 2I had the better Urien theme, I can rock Nile especially the Afro Edit all day.

I check out Super Turbo. Is that old enough for you or do I need to be a Hyper Fighter?

New Genearation was pretty sick though with those 5 hit stuns and one button infinites.

Hey DJ, Earthworm Jim is on PSN btw

On topic: 3S is better than the other 2 games, not sure how you think otherwise.

LOL. Gonna have to download it and play the Jazzy New Junk City over it.

anyways,

did you guys hear 3rd strike online edition is coming out this year ?

i wonder what the soundtrack is gonna be like !

Sooo, 3s will definitley not be at EVO next year according to Mr. Wizard on the latest Alphaism. Just letting yall know incase you didn’t read the evo thread here. Him and Flash pretty much talked about how much they hate the game for about ten minutes.
