He’s right, it doesn’t matter. But one cool thing is that if you plink HP with MP and then immediately hit MK, LP, MP, HP you’ll find that it’s almost fool proof for linking into tc2 -> hands.
This Gen player’s attitude has been bothering me a bit. In the video below, he’s playing one of my online buds as Gen @ 2:40 plus post-game hate message at the end.
He also seems to treat eventhubs as his troll area and no one seems to know Gen like he does…
After the disaster that was ReveLAtions 2012 by tournament legacy, I quit going to majors/wnf. I was so sick of all the aspergers and douchebaggery in the community that I just played casually with my buddies in LA. Haven’t played competitively in a while, only popping in the disk to mess around with dudley.
Anyway, we have loctesting at Super Arcade here in socal. I tested AE and AE2012 for these boards, wondering if you guys want me to do it again for Gen.
Well, I’m on my way to a local tournament tomorrow. I’m still repping Gen. Been having some good training sessions with SylverWereWolf, not sure if he posts here but I’ve picked up some good habits. Wish me look guys
so just read a xian interview. he seems to claim he invented gen
as a former gen lab monster i kinda took offense to this. he gets credit for being the first one to fit all the pieces together, sure, but i dont think he can claim to have invented the character. i know he got a lot of tech from guys on this very forum
Don’t sweat it man, spoke to him and he explained what he meant, what he meant was that he kind of changed how people viewed Gen and made him look top tier and for the most part that is true.
personnally i have a good feeling about gen in ultra i certainly played yang and i am building a evil ryu / oni sub but still , gen is awesome (never get tired of placing cr mp > hands > super > ultra and enjoy the salt )
im surprised gen is being buffed while fei is getting nerfed. i play both characters fairly evenly and i have a much easier time with gen than fei. I guess I haven’t played fei @ his full potential yet.
speaking of xian, i see him use:
corner hk.gekiro > whiff crane cr.LP > ceiling drop
no, its not a safe setup, if you hit it meaty you are safe from 5 frame or more reversals, works mostly due to lack of knowledge and the move switching sides in the corner
I’m training cMP xx hands, how do I know if the hands that’s popping is from HP?
Sometimes I get 4 hits, sometimes 5 hits, and even 7 hits here and there.
I’m pianoing and using this method (LP MP LP MP HP):
The method in the link you provided is for Honda. For Gen, the c.MP already counts towards the number of times you need to press a punch button before the hands come out. You need to press 5 punches within the given amount of time and the last punch you hit is the level of hands you’ll get; so if you finish the 5th punch on HP, you’ll get HP hands. The more you mash after the hands is already out, the longer it will last and thus more hits. A normal HP hands is 4 hits without mashing. Here’s one method for Gen’s c.MP into hands:
c.MP, LP, LP, MP, HP
I though I was inputting the MP hands instead of the HP one, but after some practice and using the same pattern I’m inputting the 5 hits (1 from cMP and 4 from hands) consistently.
Also, watching some of tha messiah videos he’s always use sMK hands. It’s because he’s already used to it or the cMP is a poor man’s version?
Whether you like c.MP or s.MK is entirely up to the player’s choice imo, but they have their pros and cons too. c.MP - hands is easier to do and does 10 extra damage than the s.MK version. On the other hand s.MK has slightly longer range, which is always useful but the downside is that it’s a little harder to do. If you’re good, you may even want to learn both versions and use them whenever you see fit.
There is no difference to which hands you use its just about the timing. it is how gen fadc combos were in vanilla I guess you could only cancel the first 2 hits IIRC
