Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all Canadian Gen players (Especially Rhyllis, Street11, JUgot and Slowstep9) . I’m thankful for the tight gen community that has helped me process to the skill level my Gen is currently at. Cheers.

Happy Thanksgiving

Sorry guys, unfortunately there is no footage at all of the tourney :frowning:

Then it didnt happen!

Haha j/k good job man. Any notable players in the tourny with you?

Some people in the tourney with me was LPN, Julio, Noej, and a couple more I can’t name from the top of my head. I was lucky enough to get a good bracket and had to play my friend Noej (Makoto of NorCal) Couple other guys but they were pretty easy

we need more footage of Nubbb… pleaaaase

Yea. I wanted to see the footage also.

Why does Amiyu use fwd gekiro instead of roundhouse for punishes?

ask Amiyu. Probably for spacing/

damn Xian didn’t pick U2 vs P.Champ’s Sim :frowning:

sim and guile both are really baad match up for gen :frowning:

yea he should have use ultra 2. it would at least stop sim from shooting out fireballs.:frowning:

personally I think the sim match-up is 6/4 in gens favour.

I realized one thing after playing in CC2011: I heavily lacked in Zangief match-up practice.

Curse of Zangief was poured upon me these two days and I got eliminated in Team Canada qualifier by a Gief, lost money match by the Gief, lost once in the pool by another Gief, then got eliminated in the losers by the third Gief. Their playstyle was all different :frowning:

when u play against zangief and u control the match until the last 30 sec and then 3 or 2 SPD Gen die !!! i know what u mean bro sorry for that

Street 11, its ok, you’ll get him next time

Well if the Gief match-up stays the same in 2012 I have a really good handle on it, and will do a match-up video on him once 2012 drops. I’m holding off on doing things since 2012 is just next month.

I almost only played theory fighting when it came to Gief match-up; I realized actually playing them is not good.

What I can say is that far st.MP is BS and a below-average player like me cannot whiff punish it.

Oh and j.HP and j.MK requires different timing for mantis cr.HP AA. j.MK can counter you out if you time it for j.HP, and j.HP whiff OS SPD will own you if you time it for j.MK. So it likely requires meter to AA with no guessing involved. After 2012 crane cr.HK will be a big friend for this jump.

Dammit I heard Xian asking who I am and I was there only to show myself get beaten up.

One thing that felt good wAs that I landed sweep backdash crossup U1 on Zzangmoo (Gief player in Team Korea). His face after getting hit was like “wtf!?”

I think Gief has problems with Gen’s AA’s. I’ve played solid Giefs, and have one locally so I have the practice. I feel this is in Gen’s favour if gen is very defensive. I’ve learned not to panic in the corner if he does bully me there. Mantis c.HP is godlike vs Gief. I don’t even bother with Crane c.HK. To be honest I don’t go into Crane unless it’s to oga build meter because he’s lariating across the screen. Mantis is your friend. Oh the other time I use Crane is when I’m mid screen or a bit closer to hit him with a long ass over head. They never expect it to reach.

It sucks you ran into that many Giefs. My problem at the last tournament was I faced my worst match-up. Rog, and he is a solid rog as long as you don’t fluster him. If he’s in the zone, you’re fucked. He has amazing pressure and spacing so it really hurt my ability to beat him. Unlike Rhyllis’s jumpy style it beats his rog. I was just happy that he was the only one to beat me, he sent me to losers and beat me in losers finals. He flustered me pretty bad and I mind fucked myself that I totally gave up in the match. So i had the same kinda run in, lost to Rog only.

I lost to 2 characters: Yun from Team Canada qualifiers and Gief.

Yun was Yun, but we only have 1 local Yun who is rly good and he doesnt come out to the scene often, so I lacked experience in what I consider a bad matchup.

I lost horribly, but I was able to get some priceless Gief MU practice against great players.

Another good thing is I didnt show cross-up wall dives, so it remains pretty enigmatic.
