Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

k agreed. The way I read that it was hard to understand which way you were going.

THANK YOU BASED AKUMA NERF GOD

s.hk nerf is the best news ever for the Gen - Akuma match-up. Fuck that shit.

this is delicious!

ok with all the nerfs and balancing going on, i can confidently just take gen to tourneys in 2012. no more fei/gen mix for me. it dosent look like i’ll be worried as much about running into one of the several retarded play perfect or die matches

As long as he doesn’t get a nerf.

Capcom blog: ‘for creating a best playstyle in regard Gen removal of c.mp/s.mk hands due to not fitting character design we intend’

WTF? Am I reading that correctly? Are they implying that they want to or going to remove Hands Cancel from c.MP, and s.MK?

I think Warlike was just joking around :P.

But surely such a change wouldn’t affect EVERY Gen player! >:V

I’m switching to Dan if that’s the case.

I’m kidding, but I was just mocking the way they always seem to do the most random shit (with broken engrish). God knows what their reasoning is sometimes.

They cannot do many nerfs. If I think like Capcom (random mind), a nerf will most likely be that mantis cr.HP will have a hurtbox added onto his head.

From my experience, most buffs they do do not improve a character’s core game. Rather, they simply add variations on what a character can do.

When they do a nerf, they nerf a character’s core game.

The most wtf punish in the game: LP Criminal Upper block -> Mantis Super.

As we all know Cody’s LP Criminal Upper is -5 on block. This is visible by Bison not being able to punish it with st.MK. Mantis Super comes out in 6 frames, proof is the inability to punish Yang’s 2nd Mantis Slash on block, which is -5 as well, but the possibility of punishing -6 moves as long as it’s in range. Yet, LP Criminal Upper specifically can be punished by reversal Mantis Super every single time.

I have studied this matter a great deal, using a variety of character combinations and punishes with each strength of super, even when they’re supposedly the same speed. I conclusively proved to myself that supers make no fucking sense whatsoever.

lol

well in response to this, i’ll say that when i’ve tested punishes for certain moves, i’ve noticed that the distance an attack travels as soon as it goes active isn’t always enough to punish on the first active frame. Just like how some attacks hitbox extends as the animation continues through the active frames. Ultra’s that move forward don’t always travel far enough to hit on the first active frame. So lp.cu doesn’t have as much pushback as say mantis slashes so when you reversal, you hit with that first active frame and they can’t block.

Example: Balrog punishes Ryu’s dp fadc backward with Ultra 1 which starts up in 8f, but he only gets one hit out of the first upper which hits twice. Compare to Rufus mk fadc backward which hits with all hits of the ultra. I’m sure Gen can do the same with super, i think U1 will only work on Rufus.

It’s a problem beyond that. Mantis Super starts up in SIX frames. LP CU is minus FIVE on block.

If it helps with the understanding, Gen cannot punish LP green hand on hit with super, which is -5.

Maybe it has to do with Gen’s hit box. Similar to how Akumas s.Round House misses him on the 2nd hit. Maybe one of the last hits misses him?

yeh, i suppose it was too early, i wasn’t paying attention. :[

Messiah is probably on track. Some of the hits may whiff on certain characters when certain conditions are met. I know stuff like that happens with AE Ibuki when she combos into U2 on a crouching opponent that’s what the buff fixed, and with some characters falling out of viper’s U1. And i remember something with crouching Balrog and Juri’s ex.pinwheel, but i can’t quite put my finger on it.

Tested with Fei Long. His Super is 1+5 and I can punish after both Crouch and Stand Blocking. Viper(Fierce Super) as well.

Gouken’s EX Rush Punch = -5F on Block. So… I tested that, and I can’t punish. I can only punish with 5F moves.

Tested Goukens c.Forward -5F on block, can’t punish.

Tested Gen’s c.Fierce on block -5F, can’t punish.

I recorded Cody’s LP CU on hit and block both hit 4 times. LOL Man is it funny playing SF at 30% speed. At first I thought it was only hitting 3 times on block. But hits 3 & 4 are really quick so I had to listen to it over and over.

I recorded Cody performing his LP CU on Gen and Akuma. Akuma’s sweep = 6 F start up and doesn’t punish Cody. I put them one on top of the other and played them both so they are sync’d. I do not see any difference in the way they are hit. You can see them both recover back to their crouching stances (Gen and Akuma) at the same time. The only thing I can think of is there is something funny with Cody’s LP CU vs Supers. Maybe the 1+ Frame of a Super acts like “X-Factor” in MvC3 where it interrupts the last block stun frame and goes right into super?

Sup guys

Just want to update that I recently won a local tourney just this past Saturday; maybe around 20 people entering? Didn’t seem like there was a stream station of any sort but hopefully someone recorded the finals at least. I’ll try and get that up because I want to see how I did myself

Well done Nubb! You do us all proud :).
