Seriously people that causght the analogy appreciated and those who didn’t will agree 2 disagre. Those counter hit videos are awesome 56k I see you made alot for other characters as well… Pls post more
lol well said.
Any speculations on which tier Gen will be at in the Arcade Version?
My thought is that Gen will remain low tier. Seriously.
Honestly, I wanna see which of the Capcom employees bother to test Gen out.
As a matter of fact, S-Kill said that there were some monsters in their test teams.
I wanna see how I will fair against the guy who tests Gen out.
I want to see exactly how that guy believes Gen should be played.
Or at least show us what’s so strong about him that they shipped a weak version of him to ssf4.
I’m also an Akuma, Vega, Abel, and Cody main.
I’ll take him on with all four of them and see why they decided to even ship the weak version.
It’s like they don’t bother to test him out correctly.
S-Kill said that Gen is a tricky character to balance.
But I say they just don’t know because nobody in their team even plays an awesome Gen.
And if they do, then SHOW US!!
I’m curios about the Gen player that, according to location test reports, was getting a bunch of 5 game win streaks against top level japanese arcade players. I’d like to see those games for sure.
Y’all act like Gen is impossible to win with… He is a good character. I can beat just about ANYONE with my Gen you just have to dedicated know your matchups… completely and know your frame data. basically you have to master him. But when I play with friends I usually slaughter them with gen. I mean it’s not even fair.
take gen to a tournament with well known players then get back to us. no one said gen was impossible. the match ups do give him favors like 4-6 so you could get 4 wins then they get 6 in the whole “pro tiers” theory. or it could go back n forth until you get your 4. but it’s all spec. nothing is hard in stone. some 4-6 matchups i believe to be 3-7. But if you know gen and what he can do then you can play vs him very well. skilled players who know gen’s tricks know what to expect. Your comment about being dedicated to match-ups as well. If the guy you are playing against knows the match-up well it makes the match-up that much harder for Gen. Same with powerful characters, some of them really don’t even need to know the match up in some cases.
Really IMHO if you were to take two totally equally skilled top players and both knew the match up in side and out and had never played each other. It wouldn’t be in Gen’s favor. Thats my honest opinion.
I assume you mean online or something? Have you played in some tournies before?
And yes you can win with Gen, but he is not a ‘good’ character by any means in this version. The biggest problem is that even if you were to master Gen completely and played against equal skilled players (let’s say a Ryu) it would be very hard for Gen. In my opinion highly unlikely for Gen to beat that player consistently.
yea im starting to think that the truth, in the about 2 or 3 ranbats i went to.
if the matches where close like we both had little heath, it was usually in the other person advantage.
the matches i won at the last one where because i saw a pattern in the ken and el fuerte player and i knew what they where doing at anytime. the honda match i had was close but it was hard to pull out the win. oh another thing never had a cammy who did not rush me down hard as gen haha.
with gen you have to control most of the match, if you fuck up once it could be the end for you. while the other opponent does not have to really worry about that. they can afforded to take a few hits from gen as long as they can give that one sweet spot that knocks him down.
anyway i need to start looking at my match data more since, i need to be on top of my game if i want to do really good against this good honda, gouken and boxer players we have in Oklahoma.
only low heath character who does not have a escape option would be ibuki, but she got great damage for her weaknesses. plus having a vortex does not hurt either. gen on the other hand does not have great damage for having no escape tool.
I went to a ranbat last Sunday, and finished pretty well with Gen. There were a few good opponents who could really make life difficult (Dictator, Claw, Sakura), and ended up losing against the Sakura player in semi-finals. He was a bit more skilled, so it wasn’t all that strange, but I couldn’t get a dent in on mid-screen pokes/footsies. What seemed like a 5-5 match, was really in my disadvantage, ESPECIALLY on knock-down.
I’ll be able to contribute to the match-up thread now =P
I empathize with Thebook24’s findings on Sakura but in fact there are a few easier to play characters in SSF4; or rather easily abusable. One tactics they can use is the jump in - lk -lp -tatsu and then rinse and repeat with throws inserted at each juncture and then after the tatsu they can restart or rather jump over you for a cross up and then restart again. They very fact that they are in Perfect distance to do that after ending a loop makes it very annoying; especially when you can’t do the same for Gen. Same goes for Cammy and to a certain extent Ryu as well perhaps due to his wicked jump arc.
The way I deal with it nowadays is to abuse the mechanics back at them by spamming Ex-Gekiro kick during what I coin it as an ‘abuse stream’. Sounds cheap and scrubby but it provides results. And have you got this problem with missing link combos and eating a reversal DP? That is because of the inherent fear we have when we fight Ryu due to DP spammers! And the treatment? Abuse them back once you got the bar! I tell you it is really therapeutic for me!
On a side note, did you see the match where Justin’s Rufus lost to a M.Bison in Tougeki? Really shows you how some character tends to have an advantage. I mean, if Justin can’t even get in close even to do aggressive damage, what chance do we as Gen have in a tourney?

that also true with gen and chun li i swear she worst then guile man. at least with guile once i get in it hard for him to get him off but chun li oh dear god i hate her so much. anther thing i hate is that i win more with ibuki who im not even solid with. gen just not get any reward for his bullshit.
I agree with a good online Chun. But even then I still beat chuns 70% of the time. But off line I play prob one of the best Chuns in America every Friday, and eventhough he beats me 95% of the time, I still feel like Gen has the tools.
The number one thing against chun is patience and footsies. Gens pokes out range hers by a very short range, but her faster walk speed makes up for it. she cant really jump in on you cause lk gekiro is so good in this match-up, and her jump arc gives you more than enough time to react. The trick against Chun is counter poke. But if your playing online, than footsies don’t even matter cause you cant react to them fast enough.
So just slow the game own a little and try to counter play. I think that will help you put fear in those DAMN Chun players.
Hope this helps
I finally understand many of u in this thread. Many of u love gen and will always use him, even if it means losing plenty of matches because of the character build. I feel the same way, i think gen is awsome, but the match ups like chunli, honda, rog etc. are annoying. Kinda new to posting but been comin to SRK for a while. On that note:
Footsies + Blockstrings + Hitconfirm, 3 things that I use with gen in my matches. Every character u play needs these things but i think gen won’t survive long enough if some of this isn’t included in a match.
Just putting my cents in since i do Play Gen, hope this help.
BTW my GT is NaPPy Huh, add me ill play anytime, and ill hope to have some video up soon to help also
hmm maybe your right, i wish i had a local chun player in oklahoma. the way i get better at fighting a character if i keep fighting a good player. well unless that damn player uses rufus.
What’s the best way for me to get EX hands? I use the slide method for normal hands, hp to lp to hp.
Right now I’m just hitting LP with my left index at the same time that I finish sliding. Sometimes I get EX, sometimes I don’t…
6 or 8 button layout?
for 8: mk xx mp, lp, mp, hp, PPP
for 6 or alternative just use 3 slightly spreaded fingers for sliding.
I have 6 button layout. L1 and L2 are plugged.
I will try your method. I’m so trained to slide with my middle finger though lol
then slide with middle + ring, 1 button distance in between
I also use slide… the way i do it is when i do mk xx hands, i slide from lp to hp, then double tap mp and hp twice fast. Works for me.
Is there any way to incorporate the 3P button in the piano method or will it always count as one punch?
