Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

really? so I’m dumb for comparing street fighter to chess? in what way? Star Craft is like chess as well. who is dumb?

try honda.

mk xx hands skills carries over to honda.

yea i could play honda except i dont piano i always use the slide Method for gen mk hands.

i can almost do mr snk method of piano im just one sec just too slow. i need to speed up my hands before i could get piano done. oh find a piano method that suits me but i want to get my spacing and footsies down with gen.

i still kind of doing those exercise from the old mk into hands post. it really did make me faster but im not there yet. oh one other thing i notice when i went to the ranbats. it like i was so focus on the match. i could react to everything, i barely did any jumps and i was going crazy with gen pokes ever time they tried something. it like i was not thinking at all, but i was able to punish everything.

it like when i play online i tend to over think things and that ends up getting me punish. but at the ranbat when the matches started my mind was straight focus. that why i cant wait for the next one this Saturday

i don’t piano either. dunno what mr. snk’s method is since i learned it with gen first and it just carried over fine when using honda.

this is the method i use:

honda is almost the same. since the best way to go into handslap is from c.lp, i slide from c.lp to hp, then from hp to mp and back to hp. looks sorta like a Z motion.

off c.lk and off c.mk is the same slide method as gen. c.lk is more trickier since the timing is more tight.

Its been confirmed that Gen will be getting two mantis target combos, is this news true? I read from someone’s post in one of the news articles. If this is indeed true then I like the idea of gen having them.

Street Fighter is like Street Fighter. nothing else.

Perfect Example of someone with a closed mind. There are a lot of similarities between SF and other things. Deny it all you want, it’s still true. I can give you 3 perfect examples of SF and Chess.

Timed Chess and SF.

Both require good reactions to moves.
Thinking a head to set up an attack in the future.
Trying to read your opponents next move.

Because I think differently from you, I have a closed mind? Well that’s not fair.

You could say those things about any game or sport. Even a real life fight. I don’t know why people are so quick to compare everything to chess…

IMO the only thing Street Fighter should be compared to is another 2D fighting game.

I agree. But let’s drop this. MORE GEN TALK!.

True!

Well to keep things going, check this out:

Crane c.hp is so great. The hitbox on that thing is great, people often underestimate it’s range and they get countered. Sadly, that thing is can kill you if someone can react to it. It’s a great poke if they don’t have meter.

hmm could this setup work after any oga reset?

I never actually do resets, so I don’t know what you could do mid-screen…

I tend to think of things on a deep level. Many great inventors and philosophers used concepts from other things. Bruce Lee is an example. You think Jeet Kune Do is only based on Martial Arts? He took concepts from Fencing, Poetry and music.

Then again a Mac isn’t a PC right…??? But how about we agree to disagree.

old but still useful vs people waking up.

Looks good. But wouldn’t shotos just mash shoryuken? Even if it’s meaty it won’t beat out a shoryu, it might trade, killing your set up.

I would try it on characters with a crappy wake up, like gouken or something. Still good find.

I’ll go into training mode and test it out.

it’s not about the combo. every gen knows the combo. but look at the damage. lol

yes. yes they would. I don’t like doing any attacks on people’s wakeup. but I just had to try it

lol another one just for fun.

That one’s useful. Not too many occasions when you can get a point-blank CH s.MP in on the big chars, but a game changer nonetheless.

the difference is that once you make a move in chess, you can’t go back regardless of what you do… try being random in chess or playing footsies w/ pawns and see if you win. you can’t do any of that… at least I can sweep my way to victory or do the same move over and over to win… in chess, you can’t do shit like that… and that is not to say there are NO similarities, there are basic strategy truths: such as look ahead and plan your attack. there are a lot of truths behind every fighting game, but the fact that SF is a game where you gotta move back and forth, make habits, play footsies makes it WAYYYY different than chess.

try getting lucky in chess against a great chess player, you just can’t lol
at least in sf, you can cheese your way to victory even against the toughest of players.

I didn’t say SF “WAS” or “IS” Chess. nor did I say it was “EXACTLY” like Chess. I said it was like Chess. Usually when someone says something is like something else, there are similar elements. I’d hate to see how you guys react if someone says “he acting like a dog.” Does it mean he IS a dog? Or is doing EVERYTHING a dog is doing no? Or if someone sticks their index finger and their thumb out to make it look like a gun. Christ people are smart enough to put two and two together with out saying. Your “Thumb/Finger” gun doesn’t have a clip, bullets, mechanical parts etc etc.

In all honesty. I shouldn’t have to sit here and write every single thing that is similar between two things. Saying like should be enough.

Some of you are looking way past my comment and some aren’t looking hard enough. Just forget I said anything.

Kill this rabble. Nobody cares.
