This has got some potential. It’s a nice, chunky interpretation of the original design and the facial expression in particular fits the tone of the game. I like the subtle glowing elements too. However, I think it would be worth your while to spend a little longer tidying up the line art. The forms they describe are fine for the most part, but the lines themselves are pretty shaky. Going over the lines again could smooth this out and create some variation of line width that would add volume to the image.

i agree. i drew a sketch in pencil then tried to ink and color the whole thing in ps. i dunno if it’s me or the crap ass tablet i’m using, but i agree the lines are shakey.

Line art can be one of the hardest things to do with a tablet, since you really need swift confidence of line to avoid any jitter. It’s best to keep one hand on the undo button so you can quickly practice and delete difficult strokes without moving your cursor away from the area you’re working on.

It could also be a dodgy tablet though. What brand and size is it?

it’s an ollld school wacom, 4X5 in size the et-0405a-u model
i think you can get it for like 40 bucks now.

Googles the product code Ah, it’s a Graphire2 you’ve got. That’s a good quality tablet; I know some people who have produced very high quality work with a Graphire series. I’d say the problem is the size that you’re using. The 4x5 is really intended for photo manipulation work, since that doesn’t usually require long strokes. My tablet is a Wacom Intuos3 with an active area slightly larger than 6x8. There are larger tablets out there, but 6x8 is all you really need unless you’ve got a huge monitor or do insanely long, sweeping strokes.

The tablet could be faulty or not set up properly though, since I notice on your image that there is no variation of line width. IIRC the Graphire pens have 512 levels of sensitivity, which should give some variation at the start and end of lines even if you tend to press hard.

oh sweet bro, thats the one i want too. i have the pressure sensitivity set, but you have to jam it down pretty hard to get anywhere. i lost the manual 3 apartments ago as well. the size does kill me, it’s like i don’t even move my hand, just sorta tweak my wrist.

Here’s the manual for the Graphire4. I don’t know how much has changed since the Graphire2, but it might be helpful in tweaking the sensitivity.

If you’ve definitely got the sensitivity cranked up in the tablet’s driver control panel then the problem might be with Photoshop’s internal settings. Some art programs have their own tablet settings that override the driver. I know that Painter has a scratchpad-based utility that lets you quickly re-calibrate the sensitivity, but I can’t remember if Photoshop has anything similar.

If you want to ink digitally do it in painter as that program has better control. Import it to ps if you know ps better. I’m hopping over to my bros place to play this game later. It’s too good. Anyways are you going to take this further?
