I think it would be cool if we started talking execution map strategies on here to get this thread flowing. I love strategizing in this game… so the first map I would like to propose like I have in the above post in Clocktower.
So what are peoples main strats on that level for Execution.
This map has an interesting duality of having the best weapon in the worst location while a player dependent weapon sits up top, and up top is where you want to post up with your team. There is only two ways to get in which can be managed with a full team easily, in other gametypes like TDM or Capture the leader this location is the most valuable thing in the match, but in Execution and other 1 round/1 life gametypes it’s not that important.
Boomshot is king. If you are rolling with a full team I’d have at least 3 people run for boom. Gnasher would be the weapon of choice after your run past the burning van, there WILL be at least 2 opponents right next to you running for the boom as well.
Specific Tip:
What I like to do is if I spawned at the very front of the team spawn is to run to the burning van and start hitting fools with the Gnasher. I aim for the guy closer to boom or the guy closest to me who does not notice I am right behind them(usually they are running to boom with blinders on not thinking about the possible outcomes). Some people will be doing what I do, so you’ll have to be ready to fire first. There will be rare times where only one person will be running for the boom nonstop. If that happens I like to run behind them, they usually assume the enemy team will be on the other side of the truck next to boom, so that gives me a couple seconds to get at least 1 uncontested shot on them.
If you really want to push things in your favor in the hunt for Boom, I suggest having a friend who is good with Boltok pick it up next to spawn and start shooting from there towards any enemies at boom, while your right there with Gnasher taking huge chunks of life.
With the magic of 5 minutes in Gimp, I’ll show you what I mean.
Red is where the enemy would be, Blue is your Boltok friend, Grey is where you might be in most situations. Note that if you’re in the grey area closer to your Boltok friend you could obstruct his view on the enemy, potentially rendering this whole strat useless.
I’m still addicted to Horde. I was on with a team of random folks last night that surprisingly lasted to wave 39. We were down to 4 at some points but the team was mostly full until they finally killed everybody on 39. This was Overpass, of course. Haha, folks hate it for other things, but Overpass is like THE spot for Horde. It’s kinda amazing that the team actually got killed though when we had such a good thing going on… the usual base on the topside, but then 2 guys also had a base on the ground level (both sides). I am not sure if I could ever get tired of Horde. If I didn’t have to go to work this morning, I’d probably still be playing another session now.
Sheeeit, I haven’t even tried Insane Horde yet… I’ve only done a few waves on the Hardcore setting. Even on Normal, things get pretty ridiculous from probably the mid to late 30s onward to the end. Speaking of which, I had a great random group last night… one host quit but the rest of us were surprisingly able to continue(?!)… they finally got us on wave 49…haha, SO CLOSE! That would’ve probably counted as a full run from 1 to 50 if that was successful!(*not exactly sure of this since that one guy quitting out reset things on wave 25, though we still had the same monetary amounts from previously… I’m not sure if the game would’ve considered that a “restart from current wave” or a continued thing) I already have the achievement for all 50 though. This was all on Sandbar, btw… a great team there can easily hold that obviously ideal top area if both sides are well protected…then you have a command center conveniently set up in there, and a good hiding spot for the Silverback…sheeeeeit.
One great moment was when a teammate was down on the left side of the map… the problem was that there was a Grinder in the immediate area. In one awesome heroic moment, I still ran in there and successfully saved him… the Grinder foolishly decided to shoot at something else and I just slipped past him…then helped put him down with shots into the back of the head, while another guy was on the turret lighting him up from the front side. Oh Horde mode, why must you be so ridiculously awesome?! Like Winger sang in the 90s, I Can’t Get Enuff!…it’s never enoughhhhh… sheeeeit, and I’ve made it over the hump— level 50+ has been attained.
LOL
horde does rule!
<3 it when we get to wave 8 or 9, and die, haha
I forget how intense it gets that early
fuck levling everything ! I mean, Ill do it, but fuuuck! play for 8 hours, watch it go up 2mm
Not sure if there are special things you can do to level them
Like for level 4 silver back, you gotta speen 300k on turrets or something, lmao
I was on such an awesome random Horde team yesterday…we went from 1 to 50(!) without the whole team ever being wiped out…this was on Overpass. I already have the achievement from much earlier though (*first did it on Thrashball stadium). Of all things…it was a random drone with a shotgun that killed me ON wave 50! The little sneaky bastard ran up the stairs while I had my back turned and was helping to bring the pain to that Lambent Berserker. Of course, I was too broke by that point to buy myself back into the game. I think it was 2 guys left alive on the team, and the killed that L.Berserker for the win. This is only the 3rd time at wave 50 for me… Thrashball, Trenches, and now Overpass. I forgot what the final score was but it was pretty ridiculous since there was never a point of the team being completely killed off. I’m level 53 now.
I think an Endless Horde mode would be interesting, just to see how far people could go with it… I’m sure Epic could probably implement that as a special event or something…make it so the numbers go on well past 50, as long as people are still alive and willing to stick with it. Of course the enemies would have to keep getting their bonuses to increase the challenge, and at a certain point, the team WOULD get wiped out at some point due to the increasing difficulty. (enemies keep getting bonuses until at some point they’re borderline invincible gods you are fighting) Sheeeit, it would be awesome.
Shortly after that, I had a horrible time later… it was like any semblance of skill I had went completely out the window and I played like a chump on that next team…even on a late wave, being the first dude killed is straight up embarrassing. Anyway, I’m glad to have finally got some time to max out the decoy… I haven’t tried the Onyx Guard Bot though. I’m skeptical that it’s even worth the price though… the final upgrade to bot form is apparently 5 grand! Of the top-rank fortifications, it’s all about that command center for me. It’s reasonably affordable, which is surprising for something that is that useful. It and the turrets are the best things, imo. I think 4 grand is a fair price for the upgraded turret… I usually want to buy those fairly quickly.
its not very good. i tried it out and i’d guess you’re better off saving for command center strikes.
hammer strikes are very very helpful.
everyone see the next set of achievements? its mostly just getting to level 100 a few times, a full party playing in horde and beast and (the real one to notice) get one of every ribbon
Me and My bro play a lot of quick matches since he goes on the guest account. If anyone doesn’t mind playing quick match death matches hit me up. My sn is Jack Pottz.
I agree. That’s why I only use them in private matches. I fill the game up casual bots and put it on capture the leader with 60 second capture time and friendly fire on. All your stats and kills still count so you can rack up kills with the retro and sawed off easily or any other weapon you choose
heh, I had a thrilling Horde session on Clocktower a few hours ago, yet it didn’t even count my damn score for the leaderboards. I could’ve sworn I still kept my score on the other occasions where the host quit or I quit… it’s usually a chain reaction, y’know? When it’s down to you + just 1 other person that you don’t know… it’s basically a done deal at that point; “WELLLL time to bounce…”. It would be great if they let folks join a Horde session in progress, even if they weren’t friend-listed to any of the players in there. If that little thing were in place, I’d bet the average Horde session would definitely get to 50, usually.
Well, I have maxed out the Sentry, finally. The only thing to level up now for me is the Silverback, which is still a lowly level 1 at the moment… it’s rare that I’ve ever bought it. I hardly ever save up enough money to get it… maybe I’m too much of a team-oriented player or something… I’d feel guilty about holding out on upgrades for a few waves, then I’d feel guilty about hogging so many kills once I had Silverback on the field. I’ve noticed that is what usually happens… that one guy on the team gets the Silverback out, and it becomes nearly impossible for anyone else to compete with the amount of kills and money he gets from that point on.
Silverback is way too expensive to upkeep… especially at higher waves. Not cost efficient enough.
Then again I havent played Horde in awhile… I find shooting the computer over and over again redundant and boring as shit. I need to play other people.
They couldn’t take it out of the game completely though, right? It has to still be there at least for Horde, as it’s one of THE spots for Horde shenanigans.
I’ve played a match or 2 of versus on Overpass and it’s fine, imo…it just forces both teams to try and keep that high ground…apparently some folks out there don’t like having to deal with that, I guess. Once again it almost sounds like those fighting game fans that would prefer every character and attack have exactly the same properties so that no one ever has an advantage for even 1 second. Maybe I just don’t take it as seriously as some people? I don’t know… maybe those people need a visit from Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket to tell them a “grow a pair!” life pep-talk or something. Similar to real life, not all things are going to be easy and in your favor 100% of the damn time.
Overpass is absolutely fucking terrible. One of the worst multiplayer maps in any game ever. Sure for Horde is nice… but it is even dull for Horde because it is one of the easiest Horde maps.
I am glad that piece of shit map is going to be gone.
Have you bought the new map pack? Maybe they are doing a temporary thing where TDM and KoTH are only availible for the people who have purchased the new maps.
Execution has the better competition anyways. People in TDM are shit.
