Im pretty sure its Blue just completely stops them and Red actually hurts them because it fries them a tad.
The more that I think about it they probably get much more usefull in the later stages when you can’t just be running around trying to rack up kills. I haven’t gotten past like level 27 because the randoms I have been with just run around like a bunch of assholes and get killed and I have my two red wires at the base I have to protect myself with all the annoying tickers that come and try to shit on them. Then teammates die… its just me verse everyone. Both barriers get blown up I die no money next round and with 3 people because two asshats quit its pointless.
I wish people would stop wasting their money on stupid shit like Torque Bows, Boom Shots, and Mulchers unless it is completely necassary (like your back is against the wall type deal. You can get those items from the dudes you kill so save your damn cash for barriers, turrets, dummies, and other necassary things later. For fucks sakes don’t buy barriers at level 3. You don’t need that shit.
Sorry had to vent. Too many retards online. Plus it seems like everyone on my buddy list has already dropped this game (no surprise at all) to get ready for BF3 or MW3… or because it was too hard and not as brain dead as the console FPS’s out there.
@Nissan
Or because people get pissed off about the Sawed off and the increasing lag issues. The game is getting shittier and shittier by the day for me. People are starting to eat bullets like its GoW2 more and more (especially the female characters). The first 3 weeks the game was flawless when it came to online play and lately it’s just a big lagfest (lot’s of others experience this aswell).
Not saying it’s a bad game but It’s already getting pretty boring for me.
Reminds me of this thread:
But for the most part it’s just me getting bored of shooters in general. Im still stuck in the GoW1 and CoD4 days and expect every shooter to have such an impact on me. Although I do feel shooters have actually gotten worse (online play/balancing).
Really? Lag has been fine fore me as always. Weird how you are getting shitty connections.
I love this game. It is probably my favorite shooter ever… even more so than COD4 and I played that to death. I haven’t gotten bored yet and I don’t see myself getting bored in the near future.
I do agree that in general shooters have been getting shittier over the years. I have completely lost interest in COD and have never been a BF fan. COD4 and Gears 2 have really been the only shooters I have taken somewhat seriously before this… and this is way better than Gears 2 was. I never played GOW1 because I was a frosh in college when it came out and was more into partying/girls at that time rather than gaming. But I am aware it is known as the best Gears multiplayer experience.
Now im going to post my responses to his points because I dont completely agree with him.
1 - Less skillfull players
Considering this is still a new game and the most sold Gears of the series so far this shouldn’t be surprising at this point. New players are in multiplayer and have no idea what the fuck they are doing because they have never played another Gears game in the past to get that solid foundation. They are playing it like a COD game. Cover/camp and shoot.
Over time (its getting noticable now) the shittier players will most likely leave for COD and BF3. Since FPS games are much more user friendly**. **A good chunk of my friends are doing they. They got into Gears 3 (first gears game) kept getting bodied and already have had enough and went back to MW2/BFBC2 to get ready for the new games.
Shitty players will get weeded out over time. But for now yes his point is valid because they game is new.
2 - Maps create boring gameplay
I agree that some maps suck complete dick. Overpass and Sandbar are terrible maps for any MP mode (except Horde).
But thats why we have the whole voting system. I have honestly played probably Sanbar and Overpass only once or twice each and that was only because some map got tied up. I have never played a match where the majority voted for either of these shitty maps so I find this point pretty confusing and kind of retarded.
I cant agree on Drydock because I think that is a great map for execution. For Team Deathmatch I see his point though. If you get total control up top in the middle then its shitty times for the other team. Thrashball has this problem as well in the concession stand… another reason why I love Execution over TD.
TD is a much more noobish game mode and allows more maps to be shittier than they actually are.
I think Overpass and Sandbar are terrible. Thrashball is only “ok” on execution/non TD modes. Drydock is only bad on TD. And the rest are actually pretty damn good. This is just my opinion though. We have like 10-15 MP maps coming our way over time too so lets hope for the best.
3 - Maps promote Heavy Rifle gameplay
I see what he is saying here but I find it sort of flawed. He should have jut included this in his #2 point because its basically just restating that certain maps are too shitty.
I do agree that the overall gameplay forces you to use assault rifles more. I mean shit in Gears 2 all you used was the Gnasher because that thing was a AR and shotgun all in one.
But this is why I love this game. You have to make decisions when to use what gun and where. You get into that range where you have to decided what is better the AR or Gnasher. It almost feels like you are playing footsies in a fighting game. So yea I love the balance between when to use AR’s and Shotguns.
Most of my kills are still from Shotguns though so I dont find this guys point 100% correct. Unless you are on one of those shitty bigass maps like Sandbar or have a CRAZY advantage point like Overpass and Thrashball and Drydock in TD.**

CQC has slightly degraded
I agree with this. The sawed off is such a fucking stupid weapon. Totally changed the CQC mechanics that made Gears what it is today. Now those epic shotgun battles sometimes are reduced to braindead noobcannon wars where you don’t have to really aim. Just make sure you are somewhat close and they are in the general area and you get a free scrubby kill
5 - No real challenge
I agree with the part about the SO being more of a pain than a challenge. Its like Phoenix in MvC3. When fighting her it just makes the game less fun… same with the noobcannon.
So overall I understand some points but some are just sort of silly to me but opinions are opinions. I think some of the older vets just want that GOW1 feeling back. I say quit bitching about this game and go back and play Gears 1. Its not like no one is ever on to play. I have a couple guys on my friends list playing right now actually lol.**
**
Well to be honest, I’m not sure which one is better Gears 1 or 3. I do believe Gears 3 is the more balanced game because the rifles are just as dangerous as the shotguns. Most Gears ‘vets’ dont like this but I think this is great. It’s easier to get blown up mid-range now so you have to be a bit more careful and tactical about how you take care of your shit. The sawed off is probably my only negative thing about the weapons in this game.
But I think the main reason why people like GoW1 is much:
1) Picking your own player matches.
If you didn’t have friends online you could just join a player you wanted to join. Im dutch so I could check everyone’s gamercard so I was sure I joined someone who was Dutch aswell. And when you played with friends it was most likely with and AGAINST friends. This just created such a relaxed atmosphere. You were not trying to win, you were just challenging your friends in 1 v 1 shotgun battles, trolling them or just autopiloting, while chatting with your other friends (we didnt have XBL party’s back then).
Now every game has matchmaking. I don’t know why but most people (including me) don’t want to lose against ‘randoms’ . And since every matchmade game is against randoms everyone tries harder and gets alot more pissed when things are not going their way.
2) The game was fresh
The game’s graphics were AMAZING at the time and there was no game even comparable to Gears. It had his own feel and vibe. What other game has shotgun battles like Gears? And it was the first game to ever have online CO-OP (correct me if I’m wrong).
Everything had to be discovered yet. The first month you were an amazing sniper if you could hit a moving target. After 6 months people started wallbouncing and everyone was like WTF this shit is crazy.
3) The maps were GODLIKE
Canals, War Machine, Gridlock, Mansion (only in clanmatches imo), Clocktower, Fuel Depot.
These maps are still better than all the other Gears maps.
Why? Because you can be so tactical on every single of these maps. And you can NOT camp on any of these. Unlike Jacinto and Blood drive for example.
But since Gears 2 was your first Gears, I totally understand why this is your favorite shooter to date. Gears 2 was the biggest piece of shit ever. The game was unplayable on launch and still is after 2 years and 6 updates.
Here’s a video compilation of all the bullshit Gears 2 had on launch (hilarious).
I totally agree that playing with randoms really does tone down how fun the game is. Especially when the other team is a bunch of shit eating 15-17 year old cocksuckers who talk shit over each other as loud as they can after the match with their retarded clan tags matching each others gamer tag (XGHFX, XXWUWXX etc.).
It can be even more frustrating playing with other randoms that are in their own parties. Especially on execution where you will have 1 pussy who wont rush a power weapon or nades but will sit back behind a barrier thinking he is doing something important. That basically turns the game into 5 on 4… sometimes it feels like 5 on 3 or 5 on 2 you can that shitty of teammates.
It always happens to me that I get paired with 4 randoms all in their own party… so their is 0 communication and no strategy. Worst part is that the other team will usually be one party of 5 (higher ranks too) and which usually ends in getting completely shit on. There is no less fun video game experience than getting absolutely raped in gears due to have terrible teammates who don’t know how to play or refuse to leave their party to communicate.
As far as the maps go in Gears 3 I actually love a bunch of them.
Hotel - personal fav
Checkout - best map from the beta
Old Town- another excellent map with no serious advantage points
Trenches - use to not really like this map… but now I find it extremely underrated that they got rid of the serious advantage points with the underground bunker
Gridlock obviously… even though its overplayed to death
Drydock - Another personal fav of mine probably right behind Checkout. Great execution map IMO but I understand why people who like to play TD aka Call of Duty Mode would not like this at all.
Mercy - Probably #5 or so on my fav list. No real advantage points here.
Thrashball, Sandbar, and Overpass are all pretty terrible MP maps (Thrashball isn’t as bad as the other 2). I feel all 3 are built for Horde with serious advantage points in each.
Horde on Sandbar is a lot of fun actually. I got to wave 48 last night (was about to finish it) and I got disconnected from XBL for some reason >:(>:(>:(. Would have been my first completed Horde too.
I have been playing more Horde lately due to the fact that I just cant stand playing with randoms sometimes. A lot of my friends on my buddy list have already ditched Gears as I state before lol.
Pretty much agree with all the maps they are a step forward compared to G2. Mercy would be better without the gate in the middle of the church.
And playing with randoms is a struggle. Most people don’t think when they play shooters (retro charging into groups, not pushing power weapons to name a few).
That’s one of the reasons why I started playing fighting games. I just hate losing because my teammates are retarded.
I liked the boom in the church. But the rest of the changes are cool with me.
I’m level 82 and now that epic won’t fix Anthony’s voice I’m sorta burned out. But the shit talk amongst friends while playing private matches is too fun.
this has existed since Gears 1 lol. And yes, I hated it then too. You’d start 4v4, one would quit DURING THE OPENING CONNECTIONS, and it would be 4x3, then one dude would inevitably leave before it even loaded, and WHAM, you’re fucked for a long time.
This is literally 100% the reason I quit playing Gears 1 & 2
