Gears of War 3 Scratch one grub!

Me too. I didn’t see that shit coming at all even with the allusion to it minutes prior.
This…

[details=Spoiler] “I’ll see you real soon honey.” Few people actually mean THAT soon. After that happened I kind of felt like Marcus. I was almost like “Fuck Jace. He won’t replace my brother Dom.” And I’m glad that Epic didn’t even try to fill in the void that Dom leaves behind.

For series that started off being panned for being to macho it has really been one of the more meaningful action games out there. I honestly can’t think of anything recent off the top of my head where I felt bad after a character died. I personally didn’t expect Gears 3 to deliver with emotions other than anger.

Even the jolliest people such as Cole end up having painful moments. [/details]

I love the way Epic games designs female characters. Sexy and strong all the way around. I’d tap Queen Myrah.

I notice many people have problems with the sawed off shot gun, even in the arms of a noob but especially in that of a good player.
Fighting someone with Sawed Off is like playing a shoryu happy player. Well, more like a good Seth who can use the (yomi) shoryu safely a lot of the time. You have to bait the shot, then punish hard. You have to realize the situations where the sawed off is viable, then read them a do the opposite of whats expected (which is ussually to go in and get into a gnasher fight) If you read how Fuudo beat Poongko, you can apply the same situation to the sawed off.

Ever since I got into fighting games I cant help put compare them to others, lol.

Add me for GOW3, MW2, SFIV and MvC3  XBL @ PKSkyler

Honestly I wouldn’t have nearly the amount of hate for the S/O as I do now if it required more than “fire in the general vicinity of your opponent” to kill someone. The radius of that shot is so stupid. A retarded squirrel on meth could use it properly. It isn’t point blank either. There is a cushion of a distance you can fire it at and still murk someone. It isn’t a point blank weapon like people make it out to be.

Seth’s shoryu isnt really point blank either (especially if you throw out a limb) and its got hella high priority (sound like the sawed off? :P)
Baiting the sawed off is the key. A simple one (that doesnt work all the time due to what you stated, the sawed off sometimes has deceptive range) is to walk at someone with it then roll back ASAP. Using your rifle in closeish range situations against the sawed off works well too, because if you’re close enough to be doing significant damage with your gnasher then the sawed off can prob kill you or at the least trade deaths with you.

I still hate it, mind you. A lot. Makes me rage. Hard. But its beatable. However, I think we’d have a more balanced and imo fun game without it

BULLET POINTS

-My K/D is now petering off at 2.3 with the sawed off.

-MVP ribbons out the ass. I’m playing with old gears 1 and 2 friends and everytime they get near me to threaten my MVP I go on a sawed off run and end up with a 1000 point lead on everyone else again. Feels good making teams ragequit. And slowly making everyone else use the SOS is a pleasure. Spread the hate.

-I’m liking the Retro a lot. Getting used to lightly tapping to hit people at long range was brutal but It’s all good now.

-These medals things are cool I guess, I’m just rolling with the “Member of the old guard” Title/Medal for being a Veteran on Gears 2 tho

EDIT: The sos isn’t OP, just dumb. I figure if people keep bitching Epic will tone it down eventually. So I’m gonna use it now and get the medal for it maxed out ASAP before it’s nerfed to oblivion.

Yea I know all that . The problem is not just 1 or 2 players with the sawed off I have ZERO problems dealing with those (most of them are free kills). It’s easy to stay out of the effective SO range and kill them with the gnasher/rifle. But entire teams and players that have full control of character movement, now THAT is a problem. Most likely they will be camping with it, and because you know they are camping with SO you don’t want to rush them. And it all turns into a campfest. Honestly I was laughing at people that were complaining about the sawed off until yesterday. If you run into a team with good players all rocking the scrubcannon you’ll know what I mean.

If you have no intention to learn how to shotgun on gears, fair enough pick the SO. But people that rush with it I just don’t respect that. Or the people that can’t beat others with the gnasher so they pick the SO to beat them.

Just finished it on insane, feels good.

BLOO makes a good point, imma be rockin’ the SO until I get the medal now :stuck_out_tongue:

I need my gf to help me get the Old Guard medal 'cos I never played Gears 2 that much, so for now I’m using the Beta Tester medal.

So what does everyone think of the game? I think it’s awesome and it has knocked off MGS4 as my favourite game. I guess you could say I’ve… shades shifted Gears.

Well being fairly new to gears (although) adjusting quickly, I find myself soley using it to counter those rushing at me with any shotgun. Normally my position is mid to far range spotting/downing with my Hammerburst/Longshot/Torquebow/etc, so if someone tries to flank me and I see it I just more or less bait them by not paying attention more often and not they’ll get more than close enough I’ll roll out of the way switch to the sawed of and bam one less COG:D.

I really don’t understand all the sawed off hate. Both the Gnasher and the Sawed off are fairly brain dead, an argument over the fact that Sawed is apparently more brain dead is a lil silly. It’s not like the Sawed comes with no cons and although I prefer the sawed off I think it just fits my style of play better, I think if your the up close and personal type the Gnasher is way better in the long run. They both one shot from the same range and it’s way too easy to bait a shot from the sawed off, I dunno I kinda gonna compare this “Sawed off is op” nonsense to “omfg sentinel is the best character in the game” from mvc3 give it some time lol.

Edit: Feel free to add me @Quaint Serenity on XBL for Gears3/AE/MVC3

@Volfe

Im fine with that. Since your new and you don’t want to be in CQC. The SO is braindead but I have to disagree with the gnasher. Because it takes some times before you’ll be effective with it in shotgunbattles (even though I feel the gnasher is easymode in this game).

Gnasher v. Gnasher shotgun battles are fun as hell. Shotgun vs. Sawed off? LOL!

I agree with OSD. If 1 or 2 players are using the Sawed off its whatever… easy to adjust. But when entire teams are using them it is such a bitch.

Also the sawed of in Team Deathmatch in general is fine. But once you start playing higher level play in Ranked Execution (where the really good players play) the S/O becomes a problem. The people in quick team deathmatch in general kind of blow so it doesn’t matter what gun they are using. In ranked TD they are a little better but ranked execution is the mode you want to go to for serious competitive play.

^Hmmm. I can only imagine.

If only my co-op buddy wasn’t a prick to the ash people in Act 3-1…

i had an amazing game of beast mode last night on checkout

who needs those other character rows when you got SUPER NINJA WRETCH

i was leaping over cover all over the place.

lol, DO it over! theres also something where you can get the clcukshot! lmao, the easter eggs in this game are so awesome!

Cluckshot is an infinite amo boomshot that shoots chickens, lmfao.

I hate how beast mode is only 12 waves =/.

Map tier list

God Tier:
Hotel
Old Town
Drydock

High Tier:
Checkout
Gridlock

Middle Tier:
Mercy

Low Tier:
Trenches
Thrashball

Bottom Tier
Sandbar
Overpass

All levels are GDLKE except overpass and that’s mostly due to the permanent dutch angle. Hotel is probably my favorite map because it’s similar to fuel depot the 3rd best map ever next to mansion and canals.

The only one I don’t like that much is whatever it is where a sandstorm stirs up on occasion…Sandbar? That’s just because of the obvious problem of not being able to see much of anything when that happens. On the other hand, it does make for some suspenseful moments. This is another point where Gears kicks the ass of everything else, imo… the map design is brilliant most of the time.

The other night I was playing Horde (on one of my favorite areas-- Mercy) with an old high school friend (heh, I haven’t talked to that guy in quite a long time, actually), and it was such a grand ol’ good time of killin’! We made it to wave 22 or something before I had to quit due to it being about 1 or 2 am and me having to get up for work just a few hours later. I didn’t even realize just how crazy the “boss waves” can get! There were some classic “action movie hero moments” going on there… one time he died so it was just me in a desperate fight for survival with little to no ammo against the Lambent Berserker, a Mauler, drones, Boomers, etc…and oddly enough I was able to survive for quite awhile, running from one spot to another while making sure to dodge all kinds of craziness going on. Ohhh I wish it was recorded…that shit was hilarious and awesome all at the same time…so many close calls/"oh no,ohohNOOOOOO!" moments of greatness there.

reminds me exactly of mansion!

Spoiler

So for ACT 3, that scene in conjunction w/ the music and the bitter sweetness for DOM’s death scene after talking to his wife is when I really realized games can be art. the wide range of emotions I felt from sadness to being “okay” with him being gone. And the memories of how cool he is. Like when mad world starts playing i got goose bumps…
