Garou: MOTW Thread

Grant is tourney legal he isn’t that bad. The 50% life juggle that was a semi-infinite and his actuall infinite were only in the early rom sets. He does have some beastly juggles still but the damage is that great on them. I think the best thing he;s got is the hit checkable crouching lp.

Gotta agree with KabukiMono.

There is basically no char in the game who has an overly unfair advantage INCLUDING Grant (at least if you’re play’n with a legit version: AES, MVS or even DC… and the CORRECT ROM)! An easy way to tell if you’re legit is that Grant will NOT have an infinite. The “hump” combo ONLY works in the corner and you can only catch your opponent UP TO 4 times… and thatz given the opponent was inexperienced enough to get caught off guard by his SLOW overhead launcher.

In the middle of the screen he hardly has any combos even worth mentioning or that do all THAT much damage. You can do combos involving his d+AB, but I don’t really tend to count those because they have more limitations than connecting from regular light or heavy attacks (which unlike ALL other chars, he can NOT do). As for his dp take’n off a lot of health combined with the finish, I would doubt that takes off even as much as a pile driver from Tiz.

Remember that some chars have a lower stamina than others. Grant doesn’t necessarily dish excessive damage, but he and Tiz do supposedly have a little more stamina than other chars. It is the super combo that you watch out for with this guy, but this is NO DIFFERENT from many other chars (…who can also hit check into supers off of weak attacks). Hell, Kevin is ALWAYS able to connect 2 supers in a row in any given combo. He even has a 100% combo!

Now let’s look at Grantz ranking. Hez not even in the top 3. He is 5th, which means hez pretty far from be’n some super cheap char. (Kain is ranked near the very bottom - and hez the LAST boss!) You guys really gotta play with the bosses to know whatz up. Stop look’n at or play’n with illegit ROMS! Most of the BS fears and rumors tend to stem from these.

Not play’n with the bosses would be JUST LIKE take’n any random char out of the game (you just don’t do it unless it is TRUELY JUSTIFIED). It’d be such a shame to see nonsense and complain’n from those who don’t actually KNOW better take away from such a great game. I really hope to see bosses rise in the rankings in tournaments to come.

I may sound a tad strong, but I’m not call’n anyone here stupid ok. Ignorance is a disease that can easily be cured with knowledge, but if it is NOT cured, it can be spread. So letz try to STOP the spread of ignorance shall we.

Keep Play’n. Peace

Yeah, Grant can only do that juggle in the corner. The overhead is slow, but IIRC it IS kinda hard to see coming. Other than in the corner, he’s not nearly as much a threat. I’m not sure why he’s ranked so high… I’m pretty sure Japan knows more about Garou than us though…

I think that says alot right there. If Grant is banned… then Kevin, Jae, Terry, and Gato should be banned, too. If Kain is banned, then everyone but Rock, Tizoc, and Freeman should be banned. Hmm… I think I’d like to see this happen… cuz I’d be using the no.1 character in the tourney =P

Kabuki: I like your avatar, man. That movie rocked!

Oh snap, I didnt notice that. Post up the frame data if youve got it just to be safe. I do NOT want to have to go through all of that again, and I dont think Kouga does either. Eventually I need to edit them; the startup time on all of the moves is inflated by 1 or 2.

kouga posted alot of the Frame Data back on page 6. I don’t remember if it’s all the characters though.

And the EVOLUTION 2005 GRAND FINALS is

GRANT vs GRANT

Yehaaaaaaaaaa :encore:

:lame:

Gotta show some hate

Heh heh. There will only be one TRUE Grant player emerging from these parts. If you guys can’t take out the imitators thatz on you. Hope to see a certain someone do some Kain-bang’n to help me bring these bosses up in the ranks and make them REALLY deserve to be feared and loathed.

Keep Play’n. Peace

It should be all of it except for some of Gato’s. I’ll finish up Gato’s if there’s any interest in it.

Good thing I posted it here back when Fierceslash said it was closing the second time around. It took FOREVER to do that stuff. But hey, I was bored :xeye:

If the finals are Grant vs Grant, its going to be Bloody Grant vs Smurf Grant. :badboy:

I don’t think Grant should be banned from the tourney, He does have the advantage over most characters, but his combos don’t do that much damage compared to Gato’s, Terry’s, Kevins and Jae’s. So if its an issue about combos, then its BS.

Sorry man, but the saves arn’t about the frame data. As I planned to do that, fierceslash was gone for good. :frowning:

Thanks for the info on Butt!
OK, I thought of putting some Grant combos if that’s OK:

Grant

  1. F, B, F+HP–>F, D, DF+HP, then D+HK [7 hits]
  2. Jumping HK–>Standing LP–>QCFx2+K [15/16 hits]
  3. F, B, F+HP–>QCFx2+P [4 hits]

Combo 1 is as easy as 1-2-3 :P.
Combo 2 can be done anywhere in the screen, but you need to input fast after the Standing LP.
Combo 3 is as easy as A-B-C :D.

For these combos, the first hit/attack must counter to do the remained of the combo
4) QCF+K–>QCF+K/QCFx2+P [2 hits]
5) Corner: F, D, DF+HP, Break–>DF+HP (x5)–>QCFx2+P [7 hits]
6) Corner: QCF+HK–>DF+HP (x6)–>QCFx2+P (P. Power) [8 hits]

In TOP, Combo 6, if done fully, is INSTANT DEATH (Except to Grant & Tizoc  ).

Thanks for the info, Terry_nb and everybody else! I appreciate it.

Everyone knows the Finals will be Magician as Grant vs Noc as Kain . It would be nice if that was to happen but anything is possible at EVO. I should be worry more about Giby, Moo and THE ANSWER and Oldman getting me out of the bracket. But I will practice hard and will improve more than ever. I would love to play a great japanese Garou player myself. After seeing some of the Garou jap videos I’ve seen, they know whats up with the game. Though I think that we here in SoCal can give them a good fight as well. Can’t wait till EVO comes out it should be a great year for SNK games this time around. Hope that most of you guys will be able to make it there. I would love to play some new peps in Garou to see what you guys are made of. Alright take care and keep playing.

Jaime

Is this game coming out for usa ps2?

More than likely we will get an xbox port for it…which I would still get since I have an xbox. But I plan on getting the japanese PS2 version when it comes out in May. I can’t wait to try it out to see if its like the DC version. Later.

Does anyone know any gameplay applicable bugs for MOTW?
Also, to guard cancel is just JD -> input special right? I don’t need to AB cancel it first do i?

In LEGIT (AES, MVS, or correct ROM) or DC ver of the game, I don’t know of any real bugs (except maybe for Tiz).

GC is done while in the blue spark of the JD with any of the following: special move, super, or top move (these moves will affectively cancel your guard animation). The only thing you should be cancel’n with AB should be your break move.

Keep Play’n. Peace

Awesome, thanks.

I was also wondering for an opinion of dash vs. 214A/B counter for forward movement, playing Marco Rodriguez (Butt). I always preferred the dash, since it was cancelable (thus safer). But of the match vids I’ve seen a lot of players use the counter, which is odd, since the counter is only active very early, and once whiffed, you get shafted with uncancelable forward movement = free super for your opponent. I hardly ever use the counters since JD is safer and just as potent after GCing (actually more so because GC-> 623C->236C is hella more than counter->236C). Anyone else share the same opinion or want to dispute it?

Oh man, that notation hurts my eyes  (I had a feel’n that was GG and actually had to look that shit up). Anyways:

  1. For the purpose of countering your opponent, it is somewhat difficult to use because of variables concerning timing and proximity (with BOTH you and your opponent), but as with anything, this just takes some practice. However, (mainly) once you’ve knocked down your opponent, it is USUALLY a good idea to use either of his counters (once or twice even) to QUICKLY cover ground and close the gap while building up meter.

  2. As for GC’n, you can do whatever makes you feel comfortable (personal I like to use his fireball). You MAY have noticed when opponents attack you with an attack that has a slight bit of recovery time, the super uppercut is a GREAT attack to use to punish them (it practically has a GC like effect).

Keep Play’n. Peace
