Alright gents, I’m trying to get into MotW. I’ve had it in my collection for a while, but never tried to learn it in any serious way.
However, I was watching some match vids the other day, and forgot just how sexy this game is. Now, this is a 40 page thread, and while I’m normally not one to just NOT read a thread and make a post like this…well, this thread is huge, no lie, I’m just gonna ask these questions since the OP is not a database of any sort:

Breaking - To be honest, I’m just kind of lost here. A friend tried to explain it to me, but couldn’t really articulate what it was. Sort of reminded me of Roman Cancels from the way he was explaining it, but that may have just been a misconception on my part.

Are there any good character-specific (or even general) strategy videos on youtube, google video, combo videos, etc.? I want to learn Marco and Terry primarily, but be good with Tizoc, Jae, and Dong as well.

Hitting A+B during a special move to end the moves animation, and allowing you to get in one or more hits after. Essential for combos.

Everyone has a T.O.P. move, UOH, 2 feints, and one or two brakeable moves.

…and, uh, what exactly is a TOP move? I know you can only do it durign TOP activation, but how do you do it and what IS it?
C+D. Different for every character, usually causes good damage and VERY good GC damage.
Theres also the Down A+B move
and everyone has a taunt plus Forward/back taunt gives and additional two taunts ater you win

Like what 9999 said each character has one or 2 moves which they can ‘Break’, to ‘Break’ a move you must press the A+B buttons during that move, because I’m currently really friggin’ bored, I’ll list a few tips and info about some character’s Breaking moves:-
1- Butt/Marco: His Break-able move is his :dp:+:p:, this is the one most players seem to have trouble with, just remember to press A+B at the very start so Butt will stop the move. It’ll take some time, but you’ll eventually get used to it.
2- Gato: Gato has 2 moves which he can Break; his :dp:+:k: and his :qcb:+:k:/:lk:. The first move can be easily ‘Break-ed’, but the latter is a bit harder to do and will need practice. It should be noted that you can fill the power guage really fast by breaking the :Qcb:+k: move.
3- Kain: He has 2 moves to Break as well; his Charge :d: then :u:+:k: and his Charge :l: then :r:+:hk: move. To break the 2nd move, you must press A+B on the 2nd hit of this special, practice it to get a more full understanding of it.
Yes, :d:+:snka::snkb: this is to counter jump-ins and some aerial attacks, it is also possible to counter the UOH, A+B, with this UAAA (Universal Anti-air Attack).
Also TOP Attacks are mainly used to cause Guard Crushes, but some of them are either risky or are rarely used like Gato’s. 2 of Tizoc’s TOP Attacks will cause an instant guard crush leaving them open for a 720!
Also after u win a round you can press Back or Forward+Taunt for an additional Taunt.
BTW when u Taunt, in some stages something will happen in the background, give it a try.

Also if ur going for combos with Tizoc, then I wouldn’t suggest any unless you get ur opponent Counter Hit with Jumping D or Down+AB in which case, quickly perform his QCFx2+K super.
Oh wait I just remembered a combo Nocturnal put up a couple of months ago:
Jumping D–>(land)QCF, tap A, QCF+D

Thats just off the top of my head though.

Pretty much what I just posted, some characters might go up or down a few slots, but the characters are so balanced that tiers dont really matter too much in this game, as said before. The only one that sticks out from the rest is Kevin.
Then again, a good Freeman/Tizoc can beat a good Kevin. Tiers just arent a big part of this game.

Wow, you put Grant/Jae over Gato with his 1 frame super and overall nastiness…most japanese sites have Gato as number 1 which I would tend to agree with. And why is Dong so low?
It was just off the top of my head, and should Dong be above anyone thats above him? Maybe Butt?
And I thought they were ranking Jae way up there now
