All and all was a fun day and getting to see people that we have not seen in a while probably saved the day…
Pool system for seeding the real bracket is a dumb idea IMO specialy for such a little tournament…
Took so long to play after pools were done … thank god for drunk master freddyl0c0 making this a LOL day and shotouts to NHL2010 & Arcana Heart 3 that made the end of day much more fun lolz
Good games to all I played and it was nice seeing Montreal and Toronto coming out.
Damn pedos
Was mad fun seeing all the Ottawa crew again and meeting some of the new TO players.
GO really needs to change their way of running tournaments, closing regs at 1:15 and starting the tournament at like 8 pm was ridiculous and why pools for such a small tournament? This tourney couldve been over at 7-8 pm and we all couldve gone to a bar after to hang out or whatever. The venue is great and if you guys want us to come back then just run tournaments normally like the rest of the SRK community does.
GGs to all the people I played, I cant believe I messed up so badly in the tourmanet but whatever at least MTL won it.
Smokey!!! ill see your ass at MAT!! and please show me that $20 pitcher boobie bar, sounds too gdlk!!!
Familyman, see you at MAT. We got unfinished business.
Shoutouts to GO. That Venue is godlike.
Had lots of fun and laughs overall. GGs to all those i played as mtlPR…
I personally didnt mind the pools since they went by fast and allowed people to play, but, the issue i had was that things werent run at the same time. during Super brackets there were so much mvc3 setups free that could have been used for pool play etc.
Anyways a lot of time could have been saved by doing things differently.
All in all good shit.
GO shouldn’t host any tournament ever
Pool was fine, being adamant about running shit in block while TEN TVs were available for MvC3 casuals was fucking retarded however. Next time, start a bracket, get through the first round of winners/losers and then start pools immediately. Not everyone plays at all times and moving on to another match while waiting for someone playing another game is not that big of a deal.
Venue was fine, rum and video games should be a given at any fucking event.
Tournament was great, I hope I speak for everyone when I say it was a lot of fun. Shout outs to MTL and TO for coming down and we hope you come down again. Though there were a few issues with time management, however, GO is still relatively new and ever evolving. We’ll learn from our mistakes and be better nxt time.
Great venue, awesome central location, a bar, lots of food options, lots of stations. Good shit!
Problems I had with it: I heard the brackets would be seeded by skill and region, but 3 out of 4 of the people I played in tourney were from Ottawa, despite so many out-of-towners being there. Wtf?
Also, results for the last GO tourney were never posted in the Results Thread. Hopefully they do this time.
And yes, the tourney could have been over hours before it was. But overall, it was good times.
First of all, shoutouts to Freddy, Tak and Nickcam for taking top 3 in MvC3 and my homie Chi-Rithy for beasting and taking home SSF4 like usual. Shoutouts to MTL, all of you guys, we didn’t chill much but it’s always nice to see you guys and watch you guys play SF. Shoutouts to my Ottawa peeps that i was hanging with all weekend.
Also i’d like to give my biggest shoutout to Gaming Ottawa for wasting my time as well as many others, and for being the worst tournament organizer i’ve ever encountered in my 6-7 years of playing in tournaments.
Whoever was incharge/calling the shots on how the tournament was to be ran, please give yourself a pat on the back for being the bright light-bulb that decided to waste 10 hours of everyone’s time. You guys were running late ALL day, despite players showing up at your asking time for registration. You’ve had players that have been in this scene for 10+ years WILLINGLY offer their help and expertise on running a tournament, (which apparently is harder to do then rocket-science) but you turned them all down with your “holier then thou” attitude. You guys came up with Pool Play, which NO ONE wanted (Tak actually took the initiative and asked every player if they wanted pool play, everyone said no) because it was a waste of time for a 44 man tournament. EVERYONE was saying this all day, yet you still decide that you know better then the community and decided to waste 3-4 hours on pool play. You asked players to show up at 1pm for registration only to get things running at 10:30pm. Thanks for wasting 10 hours of my time. GO is by far the most unorganized tournament organizers, and will definitely not be seeing any repeat participation from myself and a few other Toronto players unless drastic changes are made. We came into town the night before just to make sure we arrive on-time only to see GO piss away our whole Saturday.
The worst part about this whole debacle was that the staffs (besides a select few) seemed content with wasting everybody’s time. After pool play was done, i don’t get why it takes another HOUR to set up a 32 man bracket.
Shoutouts to the few staff members (dude, with the glasses, dude on the mic, chick recording the results and the guys hustling to get pools done, sorry i didn’t catch any of your names) that actually tried to get things done. GO, you invested a ton of money in equipment as far as i can see, please don’t waste all this by letting a guy that doesn’t know shit about the SF scene or how to run a bracket, run this organization into the ground. Get some people that know what they’re doing to do the brackets. Within the Ottawa gaming community, their are MANY people that are capable of getting a tourney like this done on time, especially with the number of staff that was actually on site. The day looked promising, especially with the big venue, and the endless ammount of setups, food close by and an awesome turnout of participants, but ultimately wasted away what could of been an epic tourney that might have repeat-potential.
PS: Shoutouts to the Ottawa dude challenging all of Toronto to MMs and not following through on any of them.
Thanks Quan. Well worded post which I’ll definitely be passing on directly to the GO staff.
Feedback thread is up on the GO forums @ Gaming Ottawa • View topic - Suggestions for the next GO event.
Waiting for the full tournament results now… Anyway I won’t bump this thread any further until the results go up, Contra should be un-stickying this at some point soon.
For what it’s worth, as a member of the Ottawa community, I apologize for the issues with the tournament. Hopefully the GO guys take the feedback to heart and we see the proper changes made. I have volunteered to formally take over the SRK side of their community management and to run/organize the SF/Marvel side of the tournaments so if that happens you can be sure that it’ll be run right or that they won’t have me on board for long.
hahahhaah thats Dev!!!
Hey guys. Here are the full results.
Despite the SNAFU, it’s good to see the turnout (I wasn’t there myself).

Hey guys, (for those of you on the GO forums this is my post from there copied here)
I truly believe that the things everyone are complaining about are my fault, not the fault that we ran pools.
I did not do a good enough job of getting information out to players regarding timeline both before and during the event. This will not happen again. I know now more of what our regular members expect from a timeline, and what information absolutely must be disseminated beforehand.
There were times when I had five different people call my name from different directions, and this kind of thing was happening frequently during the day. It was taking a toll on me, and there were times when certain responses from me definitely could have been more courteous. As some of you may know, we are in the process of hiring many new staff here at Gaming Ottawa, and everyone we are bringing aboard knows that during tournaments the will be expected to help out. This means that we are going to have many more experienced staff at our disposal to run these events in the future.
I am really sorry if top players from the same region are playing each other first round. We went to Contra for the seeding for MvC3 and Gilette for the seeding of SSF4. We relied on Tio to seed by region and by skill, but unfortunately that didn’t get generated as well as it could have. Now that we have programmers, one of the first things on our list of things to make is a replacement for Tio, the bracket software that we currently use to manage the tournaments.
A lot of the organizational problems arose from not having as much staff as we were expecting. At the beginning, we were not doing a great job of planning around the number of staff we had, rather we were trying to do things the same way we had done them before and they weren’t working. Once we fell into a groove, things were going better, but it wasn’t enough. I really like Vince’s (RSX’s) suggestion of calling players on deck at stations, and we will definitely try to incorporate that, and while I’m here thanks for noticing that we weren’t on the mic enough with the sponsors. That is something that we should have been doing.
We are working towards uniform Asus setups. This is something that we have known to be the best situation from the start, and know that it is absolutely essential to work towards. That being said, only three members of the community came forward with those monitors, and a fourth showed up with one. We put them in use, and made sure to keep those stations full as long as possible.
I will not advertise a tournament and then change the format at the last minute, and we didn’t do it this time. Marvel only took five hours to finish after it started. I am confident that the issues you guys have are more related to my poor planning, style, and execution of the event rather than the format of the individual tournaments.
You guys hyped us up, and we really appreciate that. I am really sorry that we weren’t able to live up to your, and our own, high standards for providing an excellent tournament experience. I am sorry that some of you feel like you are not being listened to, but the fact is we are always listening and constantly trying to improve on our processes. We know that we will be able to make next tournament better with the feedback we have gotten.
Thank you for taking the time to make sure we run the best events possible. Next time will be better and we hope to see you there.

People rely to much on Technology to do shit for them.
tio is good, but does not fully account for Region/Seeding/etc, even though it has an option to do so.
The best thing is to print out a Raw 32/64 Man bracket, place your Top 4 Seed Far Away, and the regions just have to not face each other First Round, or First Round Winners, after that, there is nothing anyone can do, nor should anyone be complaining.
Seriously I think I need to come to the NExt Tourney toRun Smooth Brackets.
