Waiver? hmmm… Better read that carefully. This would be a first for any tournament that’s for sure.
IMO, there are etiquttes to gaming that everybody follows, no need for waiver.
People will talk shit, people will rage and people will talk more shit. All in all, it’s in the name of fun.
I think the waiver’s more aimed towards people who are like bringing their own equipment or monitors (as the Smash community tends to do) or all that. Sorta like saying “yeah…if your stuff mysteriously disappears and gets stolen, we’re not responsible for it”.
I’d imagine it’s on 360, even though the EVO standard for games is PS3 (granted, the standard for Marvel and Street Fighter seems to be 360, with only Tekken/BBCS/MK9 being PS3).
I’m actually not a member of the GO staff. I was actually just giving you my take on parts of it and things that were said in it such as messing with stuff, or whatnot. I know that I was asked to provide serial numbers of the equipment I’m bringing in case something happens to it, but I’m not involved in any way, shape, or form in the running of GO, or in the writing of the waivers.
Just a note about the waiver:
I know it is not standard, but neither is Gaming Ottawa. We are a registered not-for-profit corporation, and as such we need to ensure that we cover our bases so that we can continue to exist and provide professional tournament experiences for Ottawa and the surrounding gaming communities. If something happens at one of our tournaments, without the waiver it wouldn’t be us personally, but the company itself that would be on the hook for whatever happened. We live by the “don’t be a dick” policy, but it’s not something we are willing to bet our future on, when there is such a simple solution. I strongly encourage everyone to read over the waiver and not just blindly sign a legal document.
About Marvel:
100% Marvel and SSF4:AE are being run on the 360. Any platform that blatantly lowers the performance of a game should be avoided if at all possible. If someone is used to PS3 and only has a PS3 stick then they should go out and invest in a PS3->360 adapter.
@Nini: I saw your Dante combo video that was posted a while back. I hope to get to see some of that in action!
I’m bringing a camera with a 4 gig memory card (about 4 hours of recording time) and a stand (along with rechargeable batteries, a charger, and a bunch of disposable ones, lol) primarily to record Blazblue. I’ll probably record some MVC3 as well. I think PNDMike might be bringing a couple of things as well, but I can’t say for sure.
I’ll talk to the guys when I get there. I don’t expect Super will be huge outside of whomever is coming from MTL and the Ottawa crowd so I don’t think they’d object to delaying it a bit… but we’ll see.
Yeah, it really was a lot better I’d say. Except, I’m kinda bummed only 8 people (6 of which were from Montreal) showed up for Blazblue and the hype Marvel stuff happened during my matches (seriously, on the recording of the Blazblue matches you can hear the hype from that station 12 stuff, lol). Other than that and the lights putting some glare on the overall recorded picture, good shit.
