I guess it was just the weather, but nearly half the people signed up didn’t show up
I got there a half hour early hoping to get a few games, but to my surprise no one was there. eventually my friend Cain[e] showed up and 10 minutes before the game we ask if we can play a few matches on the ps3(this gamestop was doing it on the ps3).
we go to play but it seems controller 2 does not work. the employee tries his best but for some reason the second controller just isn’t responding. so they switch everything to the x box 360. they also had to plug it into a shitty CRT monitor.
finally a few more people have showed up. the first match begins with c viper vs sagat. and then into the first round THE GAME FREEZES (the most hilarious part was that employee has sad ‘ok now nothing can go wrong’)
they go to the back and pull out a new xbox. problem is because its a new one it forces the employee to update so that’s another 5 minutes wasted as it goes through the update process and then the Microsoft intro vid which cant be skipped
so yeah lots of set backs but everyone was ok with it an patiently waited. my first match was against a vega player who apparently didnt even know how to play so I felt bad. second round was against the sagat player… very scrubby who constantly tiger’d every 2 seconds for which I punished him. he got so pissed that he just left in a huff after his loss. 3rd round was against a decent ryu player so that was good. in the final I was against another ryu player, and since I was advancing anyway I picked abel. won that one with a bit of experimentation

Anyway, I have about 74 people signed up at my store. I had everything setup by 1:30 so people can practice and warm up. Out of the 40/50+ that actually showed up, only 36 played…
Many decided to not play because they were getting their ass kicked in casuals and felt that they needed more practice stating, “I’m not ready yet, need more time to practice”.
It was a great tourney. Had 3 setups (thanks to Aaron’s furniture/electronic), I bought pizza for everyone, there were drinks, candy, trash talking, and some taping done. So I get to post up some interviews later… with the approval of my DM, as he wants to see all the footage before submitting it to GameStop TV or posting online.
Note: It was a good thing I didn’t capture the matches, as they were awful. You don’t want to see a lot of scrubs doings wake up shoryukens all day long, or people who can’t block a fireball. :lol:

Comments: Tournament organizer wanted to play on PS3 (so did I), but decided to go by the rules. There were some people who played at AI. A good Abel and decent Blanka. The organizer was actually better than (almost) all of 'em but couldn’t enter because of employment. Sad. I didn’t bother with Ultra because FADC was being inconsistent on Xbox, during Warm-up. Was fine on PS3 pad. Store was packed really tight, though~

My brother got Second. Spent days practicing on pad and I still teleport every time I go for Bison’s ultra.

Good time, great turnout for the location and weather too, even though there wasn’t much in terms of actual competition.
The pads were actually in working condition, and since I had practiced I was set.
As per status quo, most players played ryu/ken. Otherwise there was a decent guile, a blanka that just sat on electricity, and a few sagats. One C. Viper who knew the movelist, but couldn’t really play.
Some random dude probably in his 30’s named Pedro came out of nowhere and could beast with ken.
Does anyone know if we can change our Round two stores? It would be so much more convenient for me to go to a different one, even though they are both 3 hours away.
Looks like SRK beasted in general so hopefully I can meet some heads in the next round.
