YAY! for San Jose!
And yet I doubt it’ll have focus outside of Madden/Halo/Smash/DOA/Etc…
Always hope though.
3S, please??? But yeah, realistically it’ll probably stay with mainstream games.
Not even SF4?
Oh I’m pretty sure they’ll have that. It’d be kinda silly for them not to, considering the hype it’ll probably get.
But… SF4 is so far away
I just visited that store today. It is at Stevens Creek Blvd and San Tomas. In the store, there is a metal stage looking thing with a bunch of tvs on it. I might watch the Madden thing tomorrowjust to see how it works out, I dunno.
Yeah, I also wish for more fighting tourneys in the future.
why dont you guys in the san jose area sit down with one of the workers and tell them about srk and evo…hell show them youtube videos if you can.
if their management catches eye of what evolution is, and the fact that theres at least a hundred players if not hundreds in the south bay their eyes are gonna go ching ching $$
I went by today to check out the place and to get some details of the tournament. I spoke with their district manager and he stated that the tournaments there are planned and run by Gamestop. They currently have no plans to allow outsiders to rent the location and run tournaments on their own. But he said that this can be considered. I spoke to him a little about Evolution and a slew of other smaller tournaments that take place throughout the year and how it can possibly be run at a location like this. He said it sounded interesting and encouraged me to contact Gamestop corporate to push for this idea. He stated that this was the first tournament location and will act as pilot program to see how viable the idea is.
Anyway, it seems like it can have some promise but be aware that the actual tournament space is small, only about 1,000 sq feet. The whole store is around 4,000 but the rest of it is allotted for their retail business. It appears that the tournament center is designed for players using pads while standing up. There isn’t much room to sit around at all. A mas stick along with a stand will take up tons of space and it looks like maybe about 8 stations out of their 24 can be used at once for something like a SF tournament that require more space. I estimate that with players and spectators, the maximum capacity is probably around 50 people.
Misc stuff: There were 36 players total that entered the Madden tournament. The bracket was on the wall and it looked to be a 32 man single elimination bracket. The manager informed me that since more than 32 entered, they had to play some extra rounds to qualify into the tournament. Interesting enough, during the 20 minutes I was there, only 1 station was going with a match on it while the rest were idle. Everyone else was just standing around and chatting. The manager also stated that around Feb or so, they were planning on a Wii Smash Brothers tournament.
Thanks for scouting the place for us.
Interesting…
yeah, thanX for the report choi, but ur description of the place makes me think that we’re better off staying at golflands and campus arcades. so, r u gonna be emailing the gamestop’s corporate office?
Already did.
Korean Inferno for the win. <3
while that may be true, publicity doesn’t hurt. Could potentially attract a lot of new players with something sponsored by gamestop I guess.
