-Super Mario Bros. was THE reason I wanted NES. I first played the game on one of the “Play Choice 10” arcade machines back in the day… Play Choice 10 also happened to be the biggest rip off arcade game in history, imo. (You put a quarter in and select from the list of 10 games… a timer ticks down from “300”…once it hits 0, the game stops… then of course you have to put in another quarter for more time.)
-Actraiser was the main reason I wanted SNES. There was a soundtrack there of such quality… it’s still one of the best gaming soundtracks ever composed, imo. I never heard something on that level that from a video game before. I also knew that it would get Street Fighter II soon… yeah, it was summer or fall of 1992. Anyway, Actraiser is still on my list of greatest games of all time, if I were to formally organize a list. Here we have a game that lets you be GOD of that world… and it has this unforgettable classical soundtrack… if there was a modern era remake of this with the same formula but presented with the graphics power of today… I’m not sure I could handle how awesome that would be.
-Dreamcast-- sheeeit, this system was golden from day 1, imo… Marvel vs. Capcom and Powerstone… a new Sonic game that looked potentially good, along with a better-looking GTA2 (it had the cool lighting effects that Playstation couldn’t handle due to its apparent shortage on RAM).
-Gamecube–> bought immediately because Smash Bros. Melee was due out in just a few weeks or so after launch day. In the meantime, Rogue Leader was there on day 1.
Xbox 360–> the combination of Saint’s Row and Geometry Wars were the tipping point for me there… I had to get those games asap after seeing them.
PS3–> Demon’s Souls, man. Oddly enough, I only played a little of it… I’ll get back to it someday. Super Stardust HD was another selling point.
Just like Million, I became a gamer because of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo sold many an NES with that game.
Smash Bros. Melee sold me on Gamecube.
But nowadays, my style of gaming has been relegated to portables, so I bought a DS so I could primarily play sidescrollers like Henry Hatsworth and the Pokemon games. The World Ends With You pretty much convinced me I made the right decision.
After my 360 went RROD, I was content to say “fuck it” and just visit friends’ houses to stay practiced up on fighters, but then Bayonetta was announced and I was right back in the game with a PS3… Thank you Platinum Games for saving gaming for me, at least for this gen…
I got my 360 mostly to play dead space.
I got my PSP to play Lumines.
I got my laptop to [S]watch porn[/S] play minecraft/amnesia.
I could definitely see justification in getting an snes just to play the dk country games btw, feel like that needed to be said.
PS1 - I was too young to know, but when I got the MGS1 demo…:nunchuck:I became a man :badboy:

Have you… played the Vita version of P4? How can you know if it isn’t the better experience?
Personally, I’m getting P4 for Vita as well. I’d love to play it on PS2, but ASUS monitors are all I’ve got for gaming right now and I can’t hook a PS2 up to those. (Well, I could I guess, but I’m too lazy to figure it out and order converters and all that shit. Plus I already bought a Vita for UMvC3 and BBCSEX practice on the go.)
Anyway, I’ll try to think of other systems I’ve bought for specific games…
Sega Saturn - Bought it specifically for Die Hard Arcade and Vampire Savior. Those were the first and second games I got for the system. HOLY HELL, was this worth it! Not only are those games tons of fun and perfect, but the system is covered head to toe in games that arcade heads like ourselves worship. Still one of my favorite systems of all time, if not the number one.
N64 - Super Mario 64. C’mon, obviously! While I loved the system and games, I was very jealous of the PSX and had to wait quite a while to convince my parents to get me one since, looking back, I realize the N64 was massively overpriced and likely drained the entertainment budget.
PSP - Bought it for Guilty Gear Judgment. Fuck all y’all, I love beat 'em ups and I love GG! I loved this game! Wish it was available on PSV, honestly!

Gameboy Color - Pokemon Yellow and Link’s Awakening DX
PS2 - Zone of the Enders
GBA - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Gamecube - Metroid Prime
DS - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4
Check out Ragnarok Odyssey. I’m picking that up as soon as it gets stateside. The Ragnarok Online universe and charm with a Monster Hunter style game. Has me foaming at the mouth.
I didn’t even mention Dreamcast because I didn’t buy that system for one game in particular. As soon as the Dreamcast was rumored, I knew I was getting MvC1, HotD2, Power Stone, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur and Hydro Thunder (all launch titles) as well as Street Fighter III: Double Impact and Street Fighter Alpha 3 which were already confirmed to come after launch.
Lord knows, the library only got better from there. While I still give Saturn a slight edge personally (my love of the Saturn was the whole reason I picked up a Dreamcast on day one), I feel there’s no denying that the Dreamcast had the best launch library of any system out there.
