Gunstar Heroes is incredible. I can’t believe how many people missed out on it. As much as I love Contra and Metal Slug, I think Gunstar outshines them.
And Treasure’s shooters are always my favorite (Radiant Silvergun is their crowning achievement, but Ikaruga was still good). Shit, Treasure games in general are slept on. One of my favorite console developers ever, and few people ever played their games. Silhouette Mirage was awesome, too.
treasure makes the best games that nobody has ever even heard of. but if they have heard of it they havent ever played it, but know someone that did. I love treasure, they make THE games. everything about videogames that appeals to me, treasure does it, and they do a fucking hot ass job of it.
oh, uhh, 90% of my dreamcast library.
gunvalkyrie
yeah, cybernator is the bomb.
There was this bootleg busta-move type game that I used to play (and for some reason only I plunked quarters on that baby) at an arcade I used to work at. I don’t even remember the title screen, but it was like busta-move meets tetris (no it’s not magical drop).
Basically the balls drop down from the top in groups of 3 and when it falls down, it doesn’t retain the straight shape but gravity takes over and they roll off the side if the bottom can’t support it. Maybe I should just fireup VB and start programming a clone of this game because I miss it so goddamn much!
EDIT:
Oh, forgot about “The Ring” (based on the Japanese movie) for Dreamcast. Last DC game I played before my DC crapped out and died.
Hmm… I’d somewhat agree. I never really liked Contra except for Hard Corps for Genesis (that fucking Werewolf dude with the gatling gun arm? He’d say “IT’S PAYBACK TIME!” when you picked him. I guess some alien ate his arm and gave him werewolf juice). I liked Metal Slug 2/X and 3, and the ones later to some degree. I saw one Metal Slug with Clark and Ralf in it? Is that out yet?
Gunstar Heroes are epic. My favorite part was combining two different shots to have the effects of booth. Rapid Fire + Homing = Win. The Flame combinations were pretty cool, too. I remember Rapid + Rapid made you shoot little green stars.
Remember that one level where you have to fight some Rambo looking dude (not unlike the guy from Metal Slug) where you were dangling off the edge of a plane and he came by and did armpit farts on you to try and knock you off? I also vaguely remember him having a ton of suplexes.
I have played EVERY single of them on my 286 8Mhz!
Along with Secret agent, and the very first Duck Nukem game! (2D platformer, 320x200 in 16 colors)
Those were the days!
Good tastes Bear (Bangaioh, Guardian Heroes and Dragon force are in the TOP 5 of my “best games ever” list), but I have played, cleared and enjoyed every game in your list and most of my friends too.
Mine are:
Wachenroder (saturn), a tactical RPG similar to FF tactics in the concept, but without the Job system. Very (VERY) dark story and atmosphere. Chara design by the same guy who made Serial Experiment LAIN.
Groove on Fight (Saturn), 2D fighter of the Matrimelee series.
with a really cool 2 vs 2 tag battle matches option.
Miraculum Last Revelation (PC-FX), Final Fantasy-like RPG…
(I have played a lot of PC-FX games… I believe most people don’t even know what a PC-FX is… ^^ )
Battle Athletess: Daiundoukai GTO (playstation)… I can’t even describe this… it’s a interschool athletics game with litlle anime girls in panties… It was great to play with friends when drunk/high. http://www.c-games.info/games,002,1386.html
EDIT:
Yes, it’s Metal Slug 6 and it’s out for PS2 and PSP with the metal slug compilation thing.
I see you, looking up old shit again.
This always happens to me…here we go:
Unreal Championship 2. Oh you knew this popped in my head immediately when I saw this thread. I will forever be bitter about this whole fiasco. The entire rest of the gaming community can eat my un-wiped ass on this issue. The game is great, fuck everyone else.
Mutant Storm – no one heard of it, really…no one played it, and no one cares. The problem here is that the game came out around the same time as Geometry Wars, and was similar. I give up even trying to discuss it, as it seems the entire rest of the world simply refuses to even acknowledge its existence. The sequel has a fairly recent vid that showed up on youtube lately, but I still have absolutely no hope in it ever coming out. It’s in that same area of my mind reserved for other gaming “lost causes” like SF4, MvC3, that Duke Nukem game that never came out, etc. etc.
Earth Defense Force 2017. There is only 1 other person on this forum that also loved this game.
Ultimate M.U.S.C.L.E.–this is the most fun wrestling game I’ve ever played, by a longshot. My only complaint is that the creation mode was shallow…if it were anywhere near as deep as your typical FirePro game, this would be the greatest wrestling game of all time, easy.
just for fun—some games I am 100% sure nobody else here played, but the difference is that I also think they’re terrible:
-Kether on CD-i. It is the worst shooter of all time, and it’s odd to even classify it as a shooter in the first place. It also happens to be impossible.
-Burn Cycle, CD-i. --FMV games are automatically bad, just based on the very concept of what they are.
oh yea one more game came to mind. The game Rise for the snes. Fighting game with robots and stuff. Rented it from blockbuster when i was 12 and it was pretty fun.

I bought the sequel, too. Like, 6 years ago. I’ll get around to playing it…(which is the same thing I say about the 70 or so games I have that I’ve never touched)
