Games Only You Have Played

Mario Excitebike.

I play a lot of “not-so-famous” stuff as I am into the doujin scene… but some major game I play/have played and I believe not many people have are:

  • I am deeply addicted to Trigger Heart Exelica on naomi/dreamcast
  • Terra Phantastica for the Sega Saturn (tactical RPG)
  • Gates of Zendocon and Zarlord Mercenary for the Atari Lynx
  • a Lot of j-RPG on the NEC super CD rom, such as popful mail, Ruin Park etc…
  • Yggdra Union for the GBA… I don’t know anyone who have played it, and I think it’s one of the best Tactical rpgs I have played.

The good games I have never played are:

  • All the post super famicom “mario”-licensed stuff… Smash, kart, strikers, sunshine etc…
even Mario 64. I am not sure why, but nintendo lost its appeal to me since the N64 for some reason. (same goes with Zelda… I have never even tried a Zelda after the third one on SFC)

  • Capcom’s “VS” series… no particular reason… just that everytime they released one of those, I was concentrated on another fighter (Street fighter Zero, KOF, Guilty Gear…).

  • I have never played Counter Strike, half-life or any other FPS except Wolfenstein 3D 20 years ago and Alien vs. Predator 2

  • I am a fan of JRPG, but I have never played a DragonQuest. (any of them)

War of Genesis Tempest, Magna Carta PoA.
Been addicted to these games for a while… like 10 years while lol. I love them enough to try out translating them, but all my fuckin teams disbanded because they can’t code worth shit. Yup, I was part of Lakuuna translation team. I’d give it one more try if someone else comes around.

To me, SaGa series was always superior to Final Fantasy series. Cooler special moves, bigger scale, and there are more shit to do. Good to see another fan.

Poy Poy was another game I played for the PSX a long time ago, and I don’t think I’ve met anyone who knows about that game.

Shit was mad fun too.

:u: I played that. It’s kind of like Power Stone and Smash Bros.

Bahamut Lagoon - Pure Super Famicom greatness :lovin:

That game was/is hard as BALLS, and the game systems were all fucked up. WTF are life points…seriously it’s like “Hey guy, here are life points…you have like, 15 once you run out you won’t be able to heal ever again and (I think) you die” What??

That said, the story was weird but interesting. Fuck the Egg and the family of staff users but Gustav and being insane cuz he can’t cast magic was too funny. Making penis envy basically the reason someone goes apeshit is always ok by me.

Edit: Oh shit I forgot (much to my shame) to mention THE FUCKING MUSIC. That game’s OST is heavenly to the ears. Easily one of the best soundtracks to a game, and I’m not kidding about that.

Gundam Battle Asault 2
Gungave - awsome game
Gungave Overdose - greatness
Kengo Master of Bushido - Great sword fighting game
Battle Arena Toshinden Remix - Spent hours every single day playing this game on my Saturn.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 - I was the only person in my hood that had and knew about this game seriously, I’m not joking…
Battle Arena Toshinden 2 - Spent countless days with me and my best friend just kicking each others ass.
Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi - garbage game…
Shinobi 2 Ninja Master - Was the only guy in my hood that had this game. Everybody and their momma wanted to borrow it.

Yep. It’s one of the few RPGs that won’t hesitate to destroy you if you fuck up just a little bit (didn’t kill the Edelritters? Well, you can’t go back, and you’re fucked. Good game).

And it actually turns out that the Knights family members are arguably the best characters in the game, and Gustave is actually not that good. I do like that the story will just remove characters, though (usually without warning), so you never get to have that final super party where everyone can do everything, which makes the endgame actually hard.

As for the soundtrack, it was composed by Masashi Hamauzu, and I’ll agree that it’s one of the best soundtracks for anything I’ve ever heard. Also, in terms of graphics, it’s one of a handful of PSX games that can still hold its own next to today’s PS3 and 360 games because of its unique water coloring aesthetic, and that says a lot about the lasting power of the game. It’s a shame its sequels turned out to be disappointing.

Oh man I forgot about a game. Anyone remember this game called Destrega? It’s basically power stone with focus on long range magic attacks. Me and a good friend of mines were the only ones in our huge group of friends who played this game. We thought it was awsome.

Vid if you’re interested.

I used to play this game as a kid all the time, but can’t remember what it was called…

You fly a fighter jet, and before every mission you choose the type of missiles you wanted on it. It had a mostly desert setting, but I remember you could take the jeep into town or something to get extra missions. Anyone have any idea?

Also, Dawn Patrol.

God, I wanted to play that so badly after I saw it in PSM.

What’s sad is how I have played most of these titles.

Final Bout for PSX. Wished I didn’t because of the price tag.

Plenty of N64 games come to mind.

Iggy’s Wreckin’ Balls
Buck Bumble
King of Pro Baseball
Chameleon Twist

 too classic

Destrega reminded me of a game for Dreamcast that I’m pretty sure most people didn’t play: Heavy Metal Geomatrix. Shit was pretty fun.

how does the turbo CD version of popful mail stand up to the sega cd version?

I love popful mail!

Unfortunately, the Sega-CD version is much better…

But I like the Nec version and I have never owned a Sega-CD.

In the spirit of underrated, under played PSone RPGs I’ll have to give the original Tales of Destiny a nod too. The graphics (overworld namely) were TERRIBLE, but the game play was excellent and the translation was 2nd to none at the time (a lot of PSone RPG translation and localization was just…bad). Quite fun, excellent music and enough extras to keep you occupied. Like most RPG’s the main strength was the atmosphere and becoming engrossed in the world. Love that game.

Comix Zone? I see that as pretty essential Genesis fare.

Hmm, did anyone play R.A.D. for the PS2? It stood for Robot Alchemic Drive, it’s a candidate for some of the worst voice acting in history. However, the game is quite cool, you’re a human being who runs up into your big ass fucking mech that towers over sky scrapers. Then you control the mech with awesome controls and run around to defeat whoever the bad guy is in the next level.

Smart Ball
Legend of Legaia
Rise of the robots -_-

And how many played Katamari? The lil dude rolling up buildings
and stuff then turning them into stars.

Xcom: UFO Defense on the PSone bitches. What ya’ll know about THAT. SaGaII aside, that’s one of the hardest games I’ve ever played that I actually ended up finishing. They really need to make a new next gen version (NOT a FPS you fucking bastards but a bonafide turn based strat like the original). There was so much depth in that game but the load times were GOD AWFUL. Jesus crip walking Christ loading missions was literally a 1 minute affair. It was a labor of love to beat that game, later on I got really good at switching to what was on TV for just long enough until the game decided it was time to load.

Oh and a lot of the dying sound bites you hear on TV and shit nowadays…ripped strait from that game.
