I’m not a competitive fighting gamer (not for about 10 years), but I am interested in recreating an authentic arcade feeling when playing my games at home. I went through a lot of trouble to track down a copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2 for PS2 and was very very excited, up until the point I got home, popped it into the old 60GB PS3 and found out there isn’t even a medium punch or kick button. Like I said I’m looking for an authentic arcade feeling when playing fighting games, but this is what I’ve got to work with:
PS2
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Capcom vs SNK 2
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
Street Fighter Anniversary
King of Fighters XI
PS3
Soul Calibur IV
Wii
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Dreamcast
Marvel vs Capcom 2
PS3 60gb, Xbox 360 w/120gb hdd & Wii
The only arcade stick I’ve got is the Hori Arcade Fighting Stick 3 for PS3 I just picked up today for around $40. I plan on modding this one and building my own in the future, but for the next couple of weeks I’m content with what I’ve got there. What I’m really looking for now is what game for what system is the best arcade port? Are there any real great games for the PS2/PS3 I should be looking for or should I plan on building a stick for a Dreamcast and start searching craigslist for a cheap Dreamcast?
When I first signed up here, I half expected a sticky for such questions, but I guess there’s too much preference and opinion for something like that?
Thanks for the replies. I’ll start looking for a Dreamcast for MvC2, and I’ll grab a copy of Capcom vs SNK 2 for PS2 instead. I’ll look into Battle Fantasia as well.
Wow, that’s pretty embarrassing of me to not remember the lack of med punch & kick buttons. I haven’t played an arcade version of it in probably around ten years or so. As for the stick, I paid $10 less than MSRP at a retail store so figured that wasn’t too bad.
You should be able to find a Dreamcast for cheap on eBay. I got mine a couple months ago for about $30, including shipping, in about a week. It’s not that craigslist is bad though. If you can find one on there, then go for it.
As for a Dreamcast stick, don’t really need to buy one. Just look for a PS2 to DC converter. I have one, and it works just fine with my custom stick. Won’t be able to use the PS3 stick you bought with it though, sadly enough.
I thought arcana got flak because it wasn’t intuitive, it might be fun, but it’s much in the vain of HnK where you have to learn the system for it to be fun and then even after you realize how the game should be played you might still feel it’s stupid.
Unintuitive really? I felt the easy roman cancels/long air untechable time on attacks/ways to end every combo with a knockdown made the game easy to pick up.
Well, I just got a nm copy of Street Fighter Anniversary, and should be picking up Capcom vs SNK 2 for PS2 as soon as I get enough money for video games again. I’m picking up a Dreamcast with 2 controllers, 7 games, N64, 3 controllers, 3 games, PS1 and some games for $75. I figure I’ll snag the one or two games for PS1 I want for myself and resell the rest except for the Dreamcast stuff.
