Newp, the dead character disappears, that is obviously purgatory they go to.
I must see it.

If you have an idea for a group and have support for it by people go for it. I’m an atheist but It’s good to have groups like this were people share more than one interest it builds better bonds regardless of what others think. If I could get a boating and fishing fighting group together that would be awesome. Playing AE on a boat and waiting for bites. Although It would be expensive as heck.
It doesn’t build shit. it separates people based on something far more argumentative than which of the Star Trek captains is the most godlike. If you take it to be similar to the many threads in GD or the communities formed around character specialists. The great thing about this community is the way it quickly integrates groups of people. This is technically going to put a barrier up because none of us are going to tournaments for the word of christ. I’ve already had Jehova’s witness cockblock my porn, now they’re gonna cockblock my SF DP’s too?
The thing is something that leads to heated arguments on the website as is. Why bring that shit to live events? At this point we might as well hit up some synagogues and mosques to see if they want to do sponsorship too. The discussion of this as a “sponsored group” is going to degrade faster than the one for the “all female” tournament.
The last thing we want to do is make people stand out for shit other than gameplay.
On the other hand SRK fishing group would be hella tight because once again it would be open to everybody regardless of their background. It would just be grumpy ass dudes with saggy balls shooting the shit, drinking beers and not catching shit because they’re getting too hype for the fish. This activity includes everybody; the christian group by definition would be exclusive towards only to followers of the religion.
I think I qualify.
I went to catholic school and memorizes all the prayers known the man.
Even now I can show up in-person and tell you the main four prayers used before starting mass (who doesn’t know these) and had to memorize every other prayer word by word.
After a good like, what, 6 years of being in catholic school, I “graduated” and became a young priest for… then quit 2 days later.
So I’m perty religious. Except for the fact that after I “graduated” I became atheist and so did everyone else when they finished up catholic school.
What gives, why is that?!
If magic is considered witchcraft, what is the stance on Doctor Strange in ultimate? Not even trying to troll I read that thing he said last page and instantly thought Doctor Strange
In all honesty he’s right, even if he choose to present it in such a fashion.
The truth in this is while not a bad idea in theory,in practice it will lead to more defamation and flaming.
Most the attending community cannot be bothered to bathe let alone choose a belief and defend it logically.
Plus if you believe in one religion great, what about people of varying religions who are deeply insulted by you attempting to convert them?
Most people are attempting to lessen the impact of these types of conversations and really we have all talked about religion before, how exactly has that ended for any of us?
Were you even able to make your stance understood or did it devolve into
the best thing is keep the game’s in gaming and the politics and religion at the bars and hotel rooms before/after.
DP is too phallic.
DP means something else.
BAN DP!!!
FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!!
Hi Brad, thank you for giving us all this opportunity. I am interested in applying.
I think I would be a good choice for your Christian sponsorship because I am godlike.
FINALLY!
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
No shame in applying. I did.
All i am saying is…i’ll whoop ass for the lord
Pretty sure that’s the problem.
FGD NOW WITH MORE RELIGION THREADS!!!
And it was all going so well. Interested to see who gets picked up/recruited into this. Should try and counter-offer Brazzers for LI Joe
You guys may not necessarily agree with Brad’s opinions, but they’re his to post.
Everyone here posting has effectively interpreted religion in their own different way, whether it be a positive or negative interpretation.
Brad is offering players in the FGC an opportunity for a sponsorship. Think about that for a second, and I’ll state an example for you to wrap your head around.
Everyone here cheers for players like Dieminion, Yipes, ChrisG, Viscant, and Bala right? Or Justin Wong and Ricky Ortiz? Or Daigo, Tokido and Infiltration? Their sponsors ideally pay for travel to each event, plus event registration and hotel. Brad is not necessarily looking for the next player I just mentioned above, but he is looking for someone who would represent his organization best in regards to the FGC.
I have first-hand experience dealing with faith-based organizations such as Brad’s, and they are quite effective in their means.
If I may offer a suggestion Brad, hold a online tournament for each game you’re wanting to place a sponsor in, with sponsorship as the 1st place prize for each game. I know your organization does LANs for Halo and such and does a MLG sponsorship for the winner or winning team dependent on the format.
I’m personally not against their sponsorship of anybody.
I’m particularly arguing against that little part where they mention they like to host bible studies on LIVE EVENTS.
I’m totally against any type of religion trying to sneak into our events.
They can sponsor anyone they want, but keep religion out of tournaments.
It only means trouble as it was nicely illustrated by Pertho.
Sure why not, I got time for this post.
The first thing to understand about people in general is that they don’t necessarily have a problem with religion; they have a problem with people expressing their views at them when they weren’t asking for them. I’ll do a hypothetical example:
Youth minister makes an account and contacts, read the rules of FGD and contacted Preppy so he could make a new thread. He mentions having a lot of kids playing Street Fighter but that they don’t have a place to congregate. He gets on SRK because he would like to open some space in the church so the kids can play. He isn’t sure all that is entailed with the hobby, may have seem some questionable stuff on youtube and needs a guidance. In this case we are totally in there because regardless of his religious background, he more or less wants to help the kids play; just like Wu-Tang he is for the children. Here we would be able to let him know of any funny things which may clash with his faith, what to expect, how to set up and to please be nice because the community is broad and we’d like to keep it that way. I worked as a citizenship teacher at a Church for a year and half so I understand that when it comes to stuff like this, the foremost thing on their mind is just helping.
Similarly had it been a youth minister saying “hey I’m thinking of sponsoring some kids and they wanted to rock the church as a tag, is that ok?” That would be more than dandy because this outside group is joining a greater collective. He would be sending members of his community to be part of ours. Would they be rocking a church tag? Yeah. Would they be preaching and doing nonsense? Probably not since they would have been sent explicitly to play.
So let’s take a look again at this situation. Mr. Young wants to sponsor players so he can promote his ministry. Not only that but since he has already taken booths to events, we can likely deduct that he would very much enjoy the opportunity to set up booths at majors and other stuff. What Mr. Young is technically doing is setting up his own ministry and using gaming sponsorships as a way to promote it. While other sponsors are honest about their intent to sell a product which 99% of the community can enjoy regardless of background, this is to setting up something only a smal group of people can enjoy. This also would be promoting a religion at events. This would make some members uncomfortable.
Sponsoring players to these ends runs contrary to the goals of integration which upper management is definitely striving towards. So no, this is not exactly the best thing for the community and would only lead to people signing up under “fake sponsorships” to shit on the people that he sponsors. Last thing we need is people rocking tags for random political reason that take away from why we go to events.
This has been your friendly neighborhood anthropologist saying: You have to consider direct as well as indirect impacts with things like these. Both are bad in the long run for little to no worthwhile short term benefit. As was mentioned a while ago by unfortunately somebody not me: the people who need sponsors are the TO’s, not the players. Think it was HAV.
Oh Pertho you complete me.
No homo
I was into this when I read the first post, but I dunno… I think the idea of a spiritually or (non-aggressively) religiously inclined group that strives to play and compete with morals and with a higher purpose is an amazing idea, but I do think a lot more subtlety would be needed. Anything remotely in-your-face is not going to fit in smoothly, and engaging with trolls by citing scripture as an introduction to the (SRK) community is not ideal IMO. Really cool that you are bridging the gap between gaming and living with purpose, though.
I will respond after our XBL Bible Study tonight at 8pm CST. http://www.twitch.tv/gamers4christ
Bout to go workout before it starts. We will look at holding a Tournament for those that apply and taking top players.
