I don’t think anyone is really generalizing or simplifying issues. We are reporting on the actions and behaviours of people who identify themselves under a certain political ideology. If they are misrepresenting a certain group or philosophy, it’s on the rational people of that particular group to call out the actions of these radicals who are ruining their reputation.

Yeah, most of the topics of anything politicized are extremely complex. As you pointed out, these things tend to be oversimplified, and no one gets anywhere. Politicized climates are the worst for discussing complex issues and sadly, in this particular case, the platforms often used by common people such as Twitter are terrible for it. It’s also going to be nigh impossible to be constructive in this topic because one side in particular has a media platform and loud voices to distribute their narrative, which boils down to insults targeted at the other side. I also think that a mindset like their’s is incapable of having an objective and constructive way to reach an understanding between both sides.
This is especially apparent that none of the game sites apologized for the GAD articles and smearing a large portion of the gaming and reader base. On top of that, it wasn’t only until their reader base dropped significantly that a few of them asked what they could do, but still have yet to apologize and it seems they’re only half assedly attempting to address the issues because they’re bleeding money. I don’t think they’re actually concerned with trying to meet someplace in the middle. If they weren’t still trying to spin the same narrative since August, then I’d believe they’re at least a tad bit genuine on trying to address the problems, but that doesn’t seem to be the case based on their behavior.

yes I did. I only need to look at the way things have changed over the years in say a school setting, and the general attitude of peoples to make that assessment. Is it a generalization? Of course, just like every theory or idea in political science, sociology, and anthropology are generalizations built of statistical means.
Are most topics generalized? Of course, they kind of have to be generalized. This isn’t a topic about super abstract things built of absolutes like Physics, Chemistry, Math, etc. It’s a topic based on something that has a vast array of variable and influences from so many different places, so the generalization are kinda merited in these discussion. And given how they aren’t “academic” ones. (Which I doubt they can be, becuase people can’t even get their definitions correctly and want to use secondary or tertiary ones to justify their platform)
AS for the whole social sciences are fucked. I do believe that and will stand by what I said because of the impact that subject is having. The social sciences are pumping out a great number of people who will have big political influence in the future and they have a poor understanding of their subjects and build their agendas of conjecture. One needs to only look at the political trends of Europe, specifically the Scandinavian ones where the idea and concept of gender is under attack. In their attempt to make a “welcoming and equal” society, they are ignoring that there are fundamental differences between men and women. As if it’s a bad and scary thing, which it isn’t those differences are important but not absolute something they seem to forget about. In other parts of Europe, politicians are speaking a narrative of having the native population adapt and change for the sake of the foreigner rather than have the foreigner integrate into the nation he willingly chose to live in. Why should Europeans be mindful of mocking Muhammad (Granted the whole of Europe is hypocritical on this one)? Or what about the laws that are being passed to prevent the use of certain “trigger words” or things that limit how you can communicate with others over the internet. And it’s not like the US is doing any better, where critical theory is doing more damage than good because these people are still stuck on the idea of the power structure and not asking what created the power structure to begin with.
All these people exiting their respective universities, getting positions of power, and then brandishing their ideas as the only ones that can be tolerated because everything else is intolerant. Especially in school, why the fuck do I have to schedule with the school to make a speech at a designated spot called the “free speech zone”. Possible only thanks in part to the far reaching cancerous touch of forced inclusion and forced tolerance. Do these social “sciences” have a important part in society? they do, but right now, the entire subject is a cluster fuck pushing out too many people with a poor understanding of their subject who end up having too much power. It’s no different than the inane amount of business politicians being in a position of power they have no business in.
I mean look at all the psuedo critical analysis of video games and all the shit it has spawned. We are at a point where questioning if developers should be forced and pressured to make more “diverse” people is equivocal to being a misogonist woman hater who is white and doesn’t understand the pain of not being a white male. If you guys want to talk about game ratings, the social issues that come with minors playing games with mature themes, and the parenting involved in said process, could you make a new topic? None of those things has to do with corruption in the game development and blogging industry. If news of the game goes viral, like it did for that movie where the actors’ lines were dubbed over, then the games media is going to have take a stance on this situation. If they err on the side of free speech, then they’re gonna have to accept that a lot of the decisions involving what people put in their games (from tits to gore) are and should be protected, if they don’t then they’ll continue being a bunch of assholes but a lot of people won’t take them seriously. There’s other stuff that this would open the door for but here’s hoping it gets popping.
There is nothing objective in wanting to ban/remove content because you don’t like it. As stated before there is nothing inherently more valid in your prefefences compared to the rest of us. Therefore if you have a problem with sexualized imagery you can quite simply avoid them. You are beginning to sound more and more like anita with this argument.

Well knowing anita’s views on gender representarion specifically violence against female characters I’m very confused by this latest development.
